SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Sirach 15:15-20, 1 Corinthians 2:6-10

Matthew 5:17-37 or 5:20-22a, 27-28, 33-34a, 37 Brief Reflection: Jesus came to fulfill the law so that heaven could be opened to the righteous. Jesus’ teachings are not primarily about the joys and easiness of the Christian life, but ra-ther about the commandments that our loving Father gives to us for our freedom and good. He, who is perfect love, made us in love and sent his Son out of love to teach us what it means to partake in his life – both here and forever.

A Word from Fr. James… Ash Wednesday is only a week from this coming Wednesday and with that comes our yearly journey through the season of Lent. Please watch the bulletin next weekend with an insert that will be your guide through the activities that are scheduled during Lent here at Sacred Heart-St. Louis Parish.

On Ash Wednesday, Mass will be at 8:15 am with our school chil-dren joining us and helping to lead Mass and then at 7 pm we will have Mass in Spanish. During Lent and Easter, daily Mass will be at 8 am, including Mondays, and 6:30 pm Wednesday in Spanish. I would encourage you to add daily Mass to your schedule. I know it can be a huge commitment and sacrifice, but from my own experi-ence with daily Mass in my life, it is truly worth it.

Additionally, during the season of Lent this year, there will be ex-panded times in which I will be available in the confessional for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. On Wednesday, I will be available from 5-6:15 pm, Saturday 3-4:30 pm and then on Sunday morning I will hear confessions at Sacred Heart from approximately 9:15-9:45 am. On Wed., March 18th at 7 pm, we will have our Lenten Recon-ciliation service. I would invite you all to take advantage of these extra opportunities provided this Lent to receive God’s grace and mercy through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. If these times don’t work for you, please feel free to contact the office and schedule a time with me that will work.

This week I would finally mention that on Fridays we will be having our Stations of the Cross at 6:30 pm with a simple soup supper to follow in the gym. This year due to some remodeling work of the St. Louis Hall, all of the Soup and Stations will be held at Sacred Heart Church and gym. Mark your calendars ahead for this tradi-tional devotion we hold each Friday in our church. Walking with Jesus on his Way to the Cross is a wonderful way to not only see what Jesus experienced in his final days of life, but to make this journey with him.

Let us take these days leading up to Lent 2020 to make a good plan to what we are going to do so that we can start off our Lent strong and use this time to repent of our sinful ways and to open our hearts to the conversion and healing that God has in store for us.

Fr. James

Te animo a agregar misa diaria a tu ho-rario. P. Santiago

IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE PARISH AND HAVE NOT SIGNED UP TO BE AN ACTIVE CLEANER, call Marianne at 503-508-0451 to become a cheerful cleaner. As parishioners, we take pride in keeping the Lord’s House a clean and peaceful place of wor-ship. We cannot afford to hire staff to clean the church weekly, but for 2020 we rely on 24 teams of parishion-ers (men, women, and older children) to vacuum, dust, empty trash, vacuum the Adoration Chapel and clean the Chapel’s glass doors every Friday or Saturday. IF TEAMS DO NOT CLEAN as assigned, we all miss the beauty of a clean church. We thank all the teams who did their jobs in 2019 and hope the following weeks of 2020 find cheerful workers for the Lord!

Come join in the fun! Our next Parish Movie Night is Sunday, February 23, at 4:30 pm, up-stairs in the gym. Bring the family and your favorite blanket and we will provide the popcorn and refresh-ments as we watch Toy Story 4. This movie is appro-priate for all ages and will be shown in English. Archbishop’s Catholic Appeal 2020 Most past contributors to the Archbishop’s Catholic Appeal have received a mailing from Archbishop Sample. Please drop these into the nearest post office or bring them to the church office. The Archbishop's Catholic Appeal (ACA) supports the Archdio-cese's ministries in western Oregon - including pastoral minis-tries and care for the priesthood. Pastoral ministries spread the word of Jesus to all people in

every step of their spiritual journey. Our ministers actively bring the love of God into people's lives by providing supportive care to those who are sick or suffering, people with disabili-ties, people who are deaf, and those in prison. Parishes, ethnic vicariates and campus ministries throughout western Oregon also benefit from the ACA. The ACA also provides for the Holy Orders by caring for retired priests, educating the next generation of priests, and supporting the permanent diaconate.

Shoe Battle 2020! Blanchet’s Leadership class is reaching out for any extra hands this year to help with the shoe battle. We will need all the help we can get. The battle will begin February 18

th and end March 3

rd. The shoe battle has been going on for several years

now, and the main goal is to collect as many shoes as we can and donate them to homeless kids, teens and young adults, in the Salem-Keizer district. We are collecting new or slightly used shoes except for the following, Ballet flats, slippers, san-dals, or flip flops, as these shoes break easily or take up too much room. Please place these shoes in the box marked shoe battle in Sacred Heart vestibule. Thank you! Our target as a school is 1,250 pairs of shoes, any of the following will count as one pair of shoes; Athletic shoes, cleats, skate shoes, tennis shoes, flat boots, high heels/dress shoes, 5 New pairs of socks, 25 New Shoe laces.
