COMMUNICATION FROM MRS. JEROME TIMMONS
The Speaker lajd before the House and had read the following:
Hon. w. 0. Reed, Speaker Members, Texas House of Representatives. Austin, Texas
I want to thank you for your kind expression of friendship during my recent illness. It was a great help on my road to recovery.
MRS. JEROME TIMMONS.
RELATIVE TO THE APPOINTMENT OF HON. JOE B. DOOLEY AS
FEDERAL JUDGE
Mr. Shannon offered the following resolution:
H. s. R. No. 92, Relative to appointment of Hon. Joe B. Dooley as Federal Judge.
Whereas, Much has been said and printed in the past few weeks regarding the appointment of an o.utstanding Texas Attorney to the h1gh position of Federal Judge of the Northern District of this great State.
Whereas, This distinguished Texan, the Honorable Joe B. Dooley of Amarillo, Texas, has lived a simple yet honorable life here among the
rank a.nd file of the common citizens, at no time ever having his good name or his integrity questioned as a jurist or a private citizen.
Whereas, This out-standing Texan has never sought a public office, believing firmly that the office should seek the man rather the man seek the office. He is a life long democrat a.nd has confined his politics to that of voting ae a private citizen.
Whereas, The Junior Senator from Texas W. Lee O'Daniel, has appeared before the United States Judiciary Committee and stated that the Honorable Joe B. Dool·ey was personally obnoxious to him and further stated that Mr. Dooley represented the oil and railroad interests while he the Junior Senator represented the common people of Texas.
Whereas, The members of the 50th Legislature of Texas refute the statement of the Junior Senator that he represents the common people of our great State and call attention to the fact the.t the Junior Senator solicited funds for the publication of his W. Lee O'Daniel News in excess of $100,000.00 from the rich oil men in Texas and Oklahoma. These contributors' names have been called to the attention of the public through the press and radio both locally and nationally. "These statements are a matter of Congressional Record, which is prima facie evidence that the Junior Senator from Texas represents not the common people but the corporate interest; therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Members of the House of Representatives of Texas commend Honorable Tom Connally, distinguished Senior Senator from Texas for his foresight in sponsoring an outstanding citizen such as Honorable Joe B. Dooley of Amarillo. Texas, for this high office of Federal Judge of the Northern District. Over six million Texans are looking to the United States Senate Judiciary Committee and the United States Senate to ignore the petty political sla.nderous statements of the Junior Senator W. Lee O'Daniel and confirm the appointment of Honorable Joe B. Dooley; and be it further
Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the President of the United State, Senator Alex-
