Bobby Arnold PresidentCEO of West Tennessee Healthcare and 2012-2013 board chairman for the Jackson Chamber passed the gavel to the new board chairman in the chamberrsquos January board of direc-tors meeting Roy Heatherly PresidentPublisher The Jackson Sun will follow Arnold as the chamberrsquos new board chairman Heatherly will serve a one-year term ldquoThe chamber is a great resource and a great advocate for my business and other businesses in Jacksonrdquo Heatherly said ldquoIt is also is a great place to network and build both professional and personal relationshipsrdquo During his career Heatherly has worked not only in Tennessee but also in Louisiana and Kansas He also serves on other areas such as board chairman for United Way secretary for the West Tennessee Healthcare board the Exchange Club Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse board the Jackson Downtown Development board and The Star Center board While in his role as chairman Heatherly says he will strive to continue the implementation of both the chamberrsquos strategic plan as well as the continuing to build the coalition between other Chamber of Commercersquos in West Tennessee and the communities they serve ldquoI want to nurture the trust and make sure everyone has a voice as we position West Tennessee for the business growth that will happen very soonrdquo Heatherly said After working in other communities Heatherly knew Jackson was where he wanted to continue his career ldquoWhat makes Jackson special ndash itrsquos the peoplerdquo he said ldquoWe have great neighbors You will not find more concerned passionate caring peo-ple than in Jackson As the board chairman this year Heatherly is prepared to help people connect in Jackson ldquoToo often we allow others who donrsquot know us or have perceptions of us position usrdquo he said ldquoI want to draw a line in the sand and send out a clear and loud message The message that Jackson and West Tennessee is alive and we are positioned to grow because we are the bestrdquo With his role as board chairmen coming to an end Arnold thanked and recognized board members chamber staff Jackson business leaders and West Tennessee Healthcare for their support during his role ldquoI feel very fortunate to work for an organization that supports the community and whose support has allowed me the time and opportunity to serve in this capacityrdquo Arnold said ldquoI am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside other business leadersrdquo In addition to the new board chairmen the chamber welcomed five new members to the board of directors

John Myers Vice President of Commercial Bank and Trust Company is the 2013 Vice President of the Leadership Jackson Alumni Association board Myers graduated from Freed Hardeman University with a Bachelor of Business Administration (Finance) and received his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Tennessee at Martin As Vice PresidentLoan Officer at Commercial Bank and Trust Myers is responsible for building loan and deposit relationships within West Tennessee advises individuals and businesses on various aspects of financial planning and is also a founding team member of the de novo Jackson branch of Commercial Bank and Trust Myers has received many certifications such as State of Tennessee Life Insurance License Series 6 amp 63 designation and is a 2007 Leadership Jackson graduate Myers is involved in many organizations within the community He currently serves as the Treasurer of the Jackson Downtown Development board During his career he has also served as President of the Freed-Hardeman University Advisory board President of the Chester County Rotary Club and has helped with the Exchange Club Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse He also served as Vice-Chairperson of the Leadership Jackson 2008 class and Chair of the Leadership Jackson 2009 class Myers lives in Jackson with his wife Katy and his daughter Sophie

Chamber Announces The Bank of Jackson as New Education Sponsor CHAMBER NEWS

The Jackson Chamber is pleased to announce that The Bank of Jackson has agreed to be the sponsor for all ed-ucation activities for the 2013 year including the chamberrsquos ldquoPartners-in-Educationrdquo program The ldquoPartners-in-Ed-ucationrdquo program which is celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year has approximately 270 businesseducation partnerships Other events included in the sponsorship are the Education Recognition Breakfast a welcome recep-tion for the new Jackson-Madison County School System School Superintendent the Annual Principals Appreciation Luncheon and any other chamber activities in support of the JMCSS and public education ldquoThe Bank of Jackson is delighted to have still another opportunity to partner with the Jackson Chamberrdquo said Gary Grisham Chairman and CEO The Bank of Jackson ldquoEducation is so critical to the welfare of our community Our investment will continue to grow in value for many years to come We are proud to join the chamber and others in this vital effortrdquo The Bank of Jackson is involved in many other organizations and events within the community such as The Jackson Symphony Starlight Sym-phony American Cancer Relay for Life American Heart Association Hands Up Fellowship of Christian Athletes Habitat for Humanity Exchange Club Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse Arts Council Jackson Downtown Development Corporation Miss Tennessee Pageant Jackson-Madison County NAACP and Young Life ldquoI am so pleased to have the opportunity to partner with The Bank of Jackson to continue to support all the children in the Jackson-Madison County School Systemrdquo said Shirley Jones Vice President Public Affairs for the Jackson Chamber ldquoBy sponsoring our education efforts The Bank of Jackson is investing in the future of our community in a very real and important wayrdquo

Chamber Emissaries Volunteer Group Selects 2013 Chairperson Jim Metcalf Business Systems Manager with Sonoco was recently selected to be the 2013 chair of the Emissaries volunteer group The Emissaries contact members to develop relationships within the chamber Metcalf has been involved with Emissaries for 10 years ldquoI enjoy working as a chamber volunteerrdquo Metcalf said ldquoI have met some great people both within the Emissary group as well as through the chamber members These relationships have allowed me to stay connected within the communityrdquoLisa Cothran Manager Membership Development with the Jackson Chamber is pleased to have Metcalf as the 2013 Emissaries chair ldquoThe Emissariesrsquo work is vital to the chamberrdquo Cothran said ldquoThis group of volunteers assists the chamber with keeping in touch with its 1350 members The Emissaries connect with existing chamber members to verify their contact information and to reinforce the importance of chamber membershiprdquo The Jackson Chamber also has other volunteer groups including the Ambassadors also known as the ldquoRed Coatsrdquo Dressed in their red coats they attend ribbon cuttings ground breakings open houses and grand openings held by chamber members ldquoThe Emissaries group is just one of the many ways that the chamber keeps abreast of activity in the business community in order to provide the most relevant and needed services to its membersrdquo Metcalf said

PRArsquos Jackson Site Continues to Hire The Jackson Chamber announced Thursday February 14 that Portfolio Recovery Associates (PRA) has hired approximately 100 people since Oc-tober 2012 including account representatives operations managers and IT personnel and will hire an additional 30 people by March 2013 PRA has more than 3000 employees in 10 US states and the United Kingdom with approximately 440 at its Jackson location ldquoWe are always looking for people with strong customer service experiencerdquo said Angie Counce vice president of operations for PRA in Jackson ldquoOur company is committed to providing excellent customer service and wersquore proud of our Jackson employees for the quality results they deliver ldquoThere is a very skilled and motivated labor force in this area so we have been able to hire people with excellent customer service skillsrdquo Counce said ldquoWe also have an outstanding facility here with available space for expansion One of the reasons we invested in this facility is because of the talented labor pool in Jacksonrdquo PRA was nationally recognized in 2012 as one of Fortunersquos 100 Fastest-Growing Companies The company also was named as one of Forbesrsquo Top 25 Best Small Companies in America and one of its 10 Hot Companies Hiring Like Crazy in 2012 and has been annually ranked as one of Forbesrsquo 100 Best Small Companies since 2007 PRA attributes its success to its employees who work together as a team to deliver the highest levels of quality and customer service ldquoPRArsquos hiring is good news for our communityrdquo said City of Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist ldquoPRA is a strong company and we will always support them as they continue to growrdquo ldquoI am encouraged to see businesses like PRA continuing to hirerdquo said Madison County Mayor Jimmy Harris ldquoThis shows the strength and suc-cess of PRA as well as the regionrdquo ldquoPRA Jackson Site Expandsrdquo continued on page 5

First South Bank Announces Promotions Hunter Simmons President and CEO of First South Bank recently announced the promotions of two employees Sylvia Spencer-Trammell was promoted to the position of Assistant-Vice President She has been with the bank for over 15 years and currently holds a position as a Loan Administrator She and her husband Mark reside in South Jackson She graduated from Duncan U Fletcher Senior High School at Neptune Beach Florida The past two years she has participated in the Cultural Exchange program hosting exchange students from Japan Slovakia Poland and Thailand Melanie Luckey has been promoted to the position of Assistant Vice-President She has been with the bank for 11 years and currently holds the position of Controller She and her husband Billy along with their two children reside in Medina Melanie graduated from Humboldt High School and received her BBA in Finance from Middle Tennessee State University Luckey is actively involved in the community through the Jackson Service League Habitat for Humanity and the American Cancer Society She is also a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Humboldt where she is assistant treasurer and serves on the various committees

North Side High School Teacher Recognized By VFW As Citizenship Education Teacher of the Year (9-12 Grades)

The Department of Tennessee Veterans of Foreign Wars was chosen Chief Master Sergeant R Wayne Barron Air Force Junior ROTC Aerospace Science Instructor at North Side High School as the Department of Tennessee Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Citizenship Education Teacher of the Year (9-12 Grades) Chief Barron was selected for this award for his work at North Side High Schoolrsquos Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) program where students become better citizens and leaders Students have the opportunity to learn and practice basic leadership skills while being exposed to military customs and courtesies military organization principals of leadership and US flag etiquette Chief Barron teaches Air Force Junior ROTC curriculum of study in Leadership Air Force Customs and Courtesies and Drill and Ceremony to 120 high school students while he instructs students on how to develop as citizens of character Additionally Chief Barron coaches the drill teams and sports teams for competitions in the greater Mid-South area Chief Barron is a former Outstanding Young Man of America and was recognized nationally as the Air Force Junior ROTC Instructor of the Year world-wide Chief Barron has received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management and is a Distinguished Graduate from the Noncommissioned Officer Academy Under the leadership of Chief Barron North Sidersquos AFJROTC has received numerous awards and recognition in Sports Challenge Competition and Drill Team Competition Since 2008 his cadets have earned over $1000000 in scholarship monies Chief Barronrsquos cadets also participate in community service activ-ities that include serving in the local soup kitchen writing and delivering Valentine cards to local veteran homes and performing Color Guard duties at numerous community events Chief Barron will be attending the VFW Mid-Winter Conference in Nashville Tennessee in February at which he will be formally presented the award at that time Chief Barron is a native of Dyer Tennessee He entered the Air Force in June 1978 and retired at his present rank July 1 2008 He has been teaching at North Side for five years

Bobby Arnold PresidentCEO of West Tennessee Healthcare and 2012-2013 board chairman for the Jackson Chamber passed the gavel to the new board chairman in the chamberrsquos January board of direc-tors meeting Roy Heatherly PresidentPublisher The Jackson Sun will follow Arnold as the chamberrsquos new board chairman Heatherly will serve a one-year term ldquoThe chamber is a great resource and a great advocate for my business and other businesses in Jacksonrdquo Heatherly said ldquoIt is also is a great place to network and build both professional and personal relationshipsrdquo During his career Heatherly has worked not only in Tennessee but also in Louisiana and Kansas He also serves on other areas such as board chairman for United Way secretary for the West Tennessee Healthcare board the Exchange Club Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse board the Jackson Downtown Development board and The Star Center board While in his role as chairman Heatherly says he will strive to continue the implementation of both the chamberrsquos strategic plan as well as the continuing to build the coalition between other Chamber of Commercersquos in West Tennessee and the communities they serve ldquoI want to nurture the trust and make sure everyone has a voice as we position West Tennessee for the business growth that will happen very soonrdquo Heatherly said After working in other communities Heatherly knew Jackson was where he wanted to continue his career ldquoWhat makes Jackson special ndash itrsquos the peoplerdquo he said ldquoWe have great neighbors You will not find more concerned passionate caring peo-ple than in Jackson As the board chairman this year Heatherly is prepared to help people connect in Jackson ldquoToo often we allow others who donrsquot know us or have perceptions of us position usrdquo he said ldquoI want to draw a line in the sand and send out a clear and loud message The message that Jackson and West Tennessee is alive and we are positioned to grow because we are the bestrdquo With his role as board chairmen coming to an end Arnold thanked and recognized board members chamber staff Jackson business leaders and West Tennessee Healthcare for their support during his role ldquoI feel very fortunate to work for an organization that supports the community and whose support has allowed me the time and opportunity to serve in this capacityrdquo Arnold said ldquoI am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside other business leadersrdquo In addition to the new board chairmen the chamber welcomed five new members to the board of directors

John Myers Vice President of Commercial Bank and Trust Company is the 2013 Vice President of the Leadership Jackson Alumni Association board Myers graduated from Freed Hardeman University with a Bachelor of Business Administration (Finance) and received his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Tennessee at Martin As Vice PresidentLoan Officer at Commercial Bank and Trust Myers is responsible for building loan and deposit relationships within West Tennessee advises individuals and businesses on various aspects of financial planning and is also a founding team member of the de novo Jackson branch of Commercial Bank and Trust Myers has received many certifications such as State of Tennessee Life Insurance License Series 6 amp 63 designation and is a 2007 Leadership Jackson graduate Myers is involved in many organizations within the community He currently serves as the Treasurer of the Jackson Downtown Development board During his career he has also served as President of the Freed-Hardeman University Advisory board President of the Chester County Rotary Club and has helped with the Exchange Club Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse He also served as Vice-Chairperson of the Leadership Jackson 2008 class and Chair of the Leadership Jackson 2009 class Myers lives in Jackson with his wife Katy and his daughter Sophie

Chamber Announces The Bank of Jackson as New Education Sponsor CHAMBER NEWS

Chamber Emissaries Volunteer Group Selects 2013 Chairperson Jim Metcalf Business Systems Manager with Sonoco was recently selected to be the 2013 chair of the Emissaries volunteer group The Emissaries contact members to develop relationships within the chamber Metcalf has been involved with Emissaries for 10 years ldquoI enjoy working as a chamber volunteerrdquo Metcalf said ldquoI have met some great people both within the Emissary group as well as through the chamber members These relationships have allowed me to stay connected within the communityrdquoLisa Cothran Manager Membership Development with the Jackson Chamber is pleased to have Metcalf as the 2013 Emissaries chair ldquoThe Emissariesrsquo work is vital to the chamberrdquo Cothran said ldquoThis group of volunteers assists the chamber with keeping in touch with its 1350 members The Emissaries connect with existing chamber members to verify their contact information and to reinforce the importance of chamber membershiprdquo The Jackson Chamber also has other volunteer groups including the Ambassadors also known as the ldquoRed Coatsrdquo Dressed in their red coats they attend ribbon cuttings ground breakings open houses and grand openings held by chamber members ldquoThe Emissaries group is just one of the many ways that the chamber keeps abreast of activity in the business community in order to provide the most relevant and needed services to its membersrdquo Metcalf said

PRArsquos Jackson Site Continues to Hire The Jackson Chamber announced Thursday February 14 that Portfolio Recovery Associates (PRA) has hired approximately 100 people since Oc-tober 2012 including account representatives operations managers and IT personnel and will hire an additional 30 people by March 2013 PRA has more than 3000 employees in 10 US states and the United Kingdom with approximately 440 at its Jackson location ldquoWe are always looking for people with strong customer service experiencerdquo said Angie Counce vice president of operations for PRA in Jackson ldquoOur company is committed to providing excellent customer service and wersquore proud of our Jackson employees for the quality results they deliver ldquoThere is a very skilled and motivated labor force in this area so we have been able to hire people with excellent customer service skillsrdquo Counce said ldquoWe also have an outstanding facility here with available space for expansion One of the reasons we invested in this facility is because of the talented labor pool in Jacksonrdquo PRA was nationally recognized in 2012 as one of Fortunersquos 100 Fastest-Growing Companies The company also was named as one of Forbesrsquo Top 25 Best Small Companies in America and one of its 10 Hot Companies Hiring Like Crazy in 2012 and has been annually ranked as one of Forbesrsquo 100 Best Small Companies since 2007 PRA attributes its success to its employees who work together as a team to deliver the highest levels of quality and customer service ldquoPRArsquos hiring is good news for our communityrdquo said City of Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist ldquoPRA is a strong company and we will always support them as they continue to growrdquo ldquoI am encouraged to see businesses like PRA continuing to hirerdquo said Madison County Mayor Jimmy Harris ldquoThis shows the strength and suc-cess of PRA as well as the regionrdquo ldquoPRA Jackson Site Expandsrdquo continued on page 5

First South Bank Announces Promotions Hunter Simmons President and CEO of First South Bank recently announced the promotions of two employees Sylvia Spencer-Trammell was promoted to the position of Assistant-Vice President She has been with the bank for over 15 years and currently holds a position as a Loan Administrator She and her husband Mark reside in South Jackson She graduated from Duncan U Fletcher Senior High School at Neptune Beach Florida The past two years she has participated in the Cultural Exchange program hosting exchange students from Japan Slovakia Poland and Thailand Melanie Luckey has been promoted to the position of Assistant Vice-President She has been with the bank for 11 years and currently holds the position of Controller She and her husband Billy along with their two children reside in Medina Melanie graduated from Humboldt High School and received her BBA in Finance from Middle Tennessee State University Luckey is actively involved in the community through the Jackson Service League Habitat for Humanity and the American Cancer Society She is also a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Humboldt where she is assistant treasurer and serves on the various committees

North Side High School Teacher Recognized By VFW As Citizenship Education Teacher of the Year (9-12 Grades)

The Department of Tennessee Veterans of Foreign Wars was chosen Chief Master Sergeant R Wayne Barron Air Force Junior ROTC Aerospace Science Instructor at North Side High School as the Department of Tennessee Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Citizenship Education Teacher of the Year (9-12 Grades) Chief Barron was selected for this award for his work at North Side High Schoolrsquos Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) program where students become better citizens and leaders Students have the opportunity to learn and practice basic leadership skills while being exposed to military customs and courtesies military organization principals of leadership and US flag etiquette Chief Barron teaches Air Force Junior ROTC curriculum of study in Leadership Air Force Customs and Courtesies and Drill and Ceremony to 120 high school students while he instructs students on how to develop as citizens of character Additionally Chief Barron coaches the drill teams and sports teams for competitions in the greater Mid-South area Chief Barron is a former Outstanding Young Man of America and was recognized nationally as the Air Force Junior ROTC Instructor of the Year world-wide Chief Barron has received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management and is a Distinguished Graduate from the Noncommissioned Officer Academy Under the leadership of Chief Barron North Sidersquos AFJROTC has received numerous awards and recognition in Sports Challenge Competition and Drill Team Competition Since 2008 his cadets have earned over $1000000 in scholarship monies Chief Barronrsquos cadets also participate in community service activ-ities that include serving in the local soup kitchen writing and delivering Valentine cards to local veteran homes and performing Color Guard duties at numerous community events Chief Barron will be attending the VFW Mid-Winter Conference in Nashville Tennessee in February at which he will be formally presented the award at that time Chief Barron is a native of Dyer Tennessee He entered the Air Force in June 1978 and retired at his present rank July 1 2008 He has been teaching at North Side for five years

John Myers Vice President of Commercial Bank and Trust Company is the 2013 Vice President of the Leadership Jackson Alumni Association board Myers graduated from Freed Hardeman University with a Bachelor of Business Administration (Finance) and received his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Tennessee at Martin As Vice PresidentLoan Officer at Commercial Bank and Trust Myers is responsible for building loan and deposit relationships within West Tennessee advises individuals and businesses on various aspects of financial planning and is also a founding team member of the de novo Jackson branch of Commercial Bank and Trust Myers has received many certifications such as State of Tennessee Life Insurance License Series 6 amp 63 designation and is a 2007 Leadership Jackson graduate Myers is involved in many organizations within the community He currently serves as the Treasurer of the Jackson Downtown Development board During his career he has also served as President of the Freed-Hardeman University Advisory board President of the Chester County Rotary Club and has helped with the Exchange Club Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse He also served as Vice-Chairperson of the Leadership Jackson 2008 class and Chair of the Leadership Jackson 2009 class Myers lives in Jackson with his wife Katy and his daughter Sophie

Chamber Announces The Bank of Jackson as New Education Sponsor CHAMBER NEWS

Chamber Emissaries Volunteer Group Selects 2013 Chairperson Jim Metcalf Business Systems Manager with Sonoco was recently selected to be the 2013 chair of the Emissaries volunteer group The Emissaries contact members to develop relationships within the chamber Metcalf has been involved with Emissaries for 10 years ldquoI enjoy working as a chamber volunteerrdquo Metcalf said ldquoI have met some great people both within the Emissary group as well as through the chamber members These relationships have allowed me to stay connected within the communityrdquoLisa Cothran Manager Membership Development with the Jackson Chamber is pleased to have Metcalf as the 2013 Emissaries chair ldquoThe Emissariesrsquo work is vital to the chamberrdquo Cothran said ldquoThis group of volunteers assists the chamber with keeping in touch with its 1350 members The Emissaries connect with existing chamber members to verify their contact information and to reinforce the importance of chamber membershiprdquo The Jackson Chamber also has other volunteer groups including the Ambassadors also known as the ldquoRed Coatsrdquo Dressed in their red coats they attend ribbon cuttings ground breakings open houses and grand openings held by chamber members ldquoThe Emissaries group is just one of the many ways that the chamber keeps abreast of activity in the business community in order to provide the most relevant and needed services to its membersrdquo Metcalf said

PRArsquos Jackson Site Continues to Hire The Jackson Chamber announced Thursday February 14 that Portfolio Recovery Associates (PRA) has hired approximately 100 people since Oc-tober 2012 including account representatives operations managers and IT personnel and will hire an additional 30 people by March 2013 PRA has more than 3000 employees in 10 US states and the United Kingdom with approximately 440 at its Jackson location ldquoWe are always looking for people with strong customer service experiencerdquo said Angie Counce vice president of operations for PRA in Jackson ldquoOur company is committed to providing excellent customer service and wersquore proud of our Jackson employees for the quality results they deliver ldquoThere is a very skilled and motivated labor force in this area so we have been able to hire people with excellent customer service skillsrdquo Counce said ldquoWe also have an outstanding facility here with available space for expansion One of the reasons we invested in this facility is because of the talented labor pool in Jacksonrdquo PRA was nationally recognized in 2012 as one of Fortunersquos 100 Fastest-Growing Companies The company also was named as one of Forbesrsquo Top 25 Best Small Companies in America and one of its 10 Hot Companies Hiring Like Crazy in 2012 and has been annually ranked as one of Forbesrsquo 100 Best Small Companies since 2007 PRA attributes its success to its employees who work together as a team to deliver the highest levels of quality and customer service ldquoPRArsquos hiring is good news for our communityrdquo said City of Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist ldquoPRA is a strong company and we will always support them as they continue to growrdquo ldquoI am encouraged to see businesses like PRA continuing to hirerdquo said Madison County Mayor Jimmy Harris ldquoThis shows the strength and suc-cess of PRA as well as the regionrdquo ldquoPRA Jackson Site Expandsrdquo continued on page 5

First South Bank Announces Promotions Hunter Simmons President and CEO of First South Bank recently announced the promotions of two employees Sylvia Spencer-Trammell was promoted to the position of Assistant-Vice President She has been with the bank for over 15 years and currently holds a position as a Loan Administrator She and her husband Mark reside in South Jackson She graduated from Duncan U Fletcher Senior High School at Neptune Beach Florida The past two years she has participated in the Cultural Exchange program hosting exchange students from Japan Slovakia Poland and Thailand Melanie Luckey has been promoted to the position of Assistant Vice-President She has been with the bank for 11 years and currently holds the position of Controller She and her husband Billy along with their two children reside in Medina Melanie graduated from Humboldt High School and received her BBA in Finance from Middle Tennessee State University Luckey is actively involved in the community through the Jackson Service League Habitat for Humanity and the American Cancer Society She is also a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Humboldt where she is assistant treasurer and serves on the various committees

North Side High School Teacher Recognized By VFW As Citizenship Education Teacher of the Year (9-12 Grades)

The Department of Tennessee Veterans of Foreign Wars was chosen Chief Master Sergeant R Wayne Barron Air Force Junior ROTC Aerospace Science Instructor at North Side High School as the Department of Tennessee Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Citizenship Education Teacher of the Year (9-12 Grades) Chief Barron was selected for this award for his work at North Side High Schoolrsquos Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) program where students become better citizens and leaders Students have the opportunity to learn and practice basic leadership skills while being exposed to military customs and courtesies military organization principals of leadership and US flag etiquette Chief Barron teaches Air Force Junior ROTC curriculum of study in Leadership Air Force Customs and Courtesies and Drill and Ceremony to 120 high school students while he instructs students on how to develop as citizens of character Additionally Chief Barron coaches the drill teams and sports teams for competitions in the greater Mid-South area Chief Barron is a former Outstanding Young Man of America and was recognized nationally as the Air Force Junior ROTC Instructor of the Year world-wide Chief Barron has received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management and is a Distinguished Graduate from the Noncommissioned Officer Academy Under the leadership of Chief Barron North Sidersquos AFJROTC has received numerous awards and recognition in Sports Challenge Competition and Drill Team Competition Since 2008 his cadets have earned over $1000000 in scholarship monies Chief Barronrsquos cadets also participate in community service activ-ities that include serving in the local soup kitchen writing and delivering Valentine cards to local veteran homes and performing Color Guard duties at numerous community events Chief Barron will be attending the VFW Mid-Winter Conference in Nashville Tennessee in February at which he will be formally presented the award at that time Chief Barron is a native of Dyer Tennessee He entered the Air Force in June 1978 and retired at his present rank July 1 2008 He has been teaching at North Side for five years

Chamber Announces The Bank of Jackson as New Education Sponsor CHAMBER NEWS

The Jackson Chamber is pleased to announce that The Bank of Jackson has agreed to be the sponsor for all ed-ucation activities for the 2013 year including the chamberrsquos ldquoPartners-in-Educationrdquo program The ldquoPartners-in-Ed-ucationrdquo program which is celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year has approximately 270 businesseducation partnerships Other events included in the sponsorship are the Education Recognition Breakfast a welcome recep-tion for the new Jackson-Madison County School System School Superintendent the Annual Principals Appreciation Luncheon and any other chamber activities in support of the JMCSS and public education ldquoThe Bank of Jackson is delighted to have still another opportunity to partner with the Jackson Chamberrdquo said Gary Grisham Chairman and CEO The Bank of Jackson ldquoEducation is so critical to the welfare of our community Our investment will continue to grow in value for many years to come We are proud to join the chamber and others in this vital effortrdquo The Bank of Jackson is involved in many other organizations and events within the community such as The Jackson Symphony Starlight Sym-phony American Cancer Relay for Life American Heart Association Hands Up Fellowship of Christian Athletes Habitat for Humanity Exchange Club Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse Arts Council Jackson Downtown Development Corporation Miss Tennessee Pageant Jackson-Madison County NAACP and Young Life ldquoI am so pleased to have the opportunity to partner with The Bank of Jackson to continue to support all the children in the Jackson-Madison County School Systemrdquo said Shirley Jones Vice President Public Affairs for the Jackson Chamber ldquoBy sponsoring our education efforts The Bank of Jackson is investing in the future of our community in a very real and important wayrdquo

Chamber Emissaries Volunteer Group Selects 2013 Chairperson Jim Metcalf Business Systems Manager with Sonoco was recently selected to be the 2013 chair of the Emissaries volunteer group The Emissaries contact members to develop relationships within the chamber Metcalf has been involved with Emissaries for 10 years ldquoI enjoy working as a chamber volunteerrdquo Metcalf said ldquoI have met some great people both within the Emissary group as well as through the chamber members These relationships have allowed me to stay connected within the communityrdquoLisa Cothran Manager Membership Development with the Jackson Chamber is pleased to have Metcalf as the 2013 Emissaries chair ldquoThe Emissariesrsquo work is vital to the chamberrdquo Cothran said ldquoThis group of volunteers assists the chamber with keeping in touch with its 1350 members The Emissaries connect with existing chamber members to verify their contact information and to reinforce the importance of chamber membershiprdquo The Jackson Chamber also has other volunteer groups including the Ambassadors also known as the ldquoRed Coatsrdquo Dressed in their red coats they attend ribbon cuttings ground breakings open houses and grand openings held by chamber members ldquoThe Emissaries group is just one of the many ways that the chamber keeps abreast of activity in the business community in order to provide the most relevant and needed services to its membersrdquo Metcalf said

PRArsquos Jackson Site Continues to Hire The Jackson Chamber announced Thursday February 14 that Portfolio Recovery Associates (PRA) has hired approximately 100 people since Oc-tober 2012 including account representatives operations managers and IT personnel and will hire an additional 30 people by March 2013 PRA has more than 3000 employees in 10 US states and the United Kingdom with approximately 440 at its Jackson location ldquoWe are always looking for people with strong customer service experiencerdquo said Angie Counce vice president of operations for PRA in Jackson ldquoOur company is committed to providing excellent customer service and wersquore proud of our Jackson employees for the quality results they deliver ldquoThere is a very skilled and motivated labor force in this area so we have been able to hire people with excellent customer service skillsrdquo Counce said ldquoWe also have an outstanding facility here with available space for expansion One of the reasons we invested in this facility is because of the talented labor pool in Jacksonrdquo PRA was nationally recognized in 2012 as one of Fortunersquos 100 Fastest-Growing Companies The company also was named as one of Forbesrsquo Top 25 Best Small Companies in America and one of its 10 Hot Companies Hiring Like Crazy in 2012 and has been annually ranked as one of Forbesrsquo 100 Best Small Companies since 2007 PRA attributes its success to its employees who work together as a team to deliver the highest levels of quality and customer service ldquoPRArsquos hiring is good news for our communityrdquo said City of Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist ldquoPRA is a strong company and we will always support them as they continue to growrdquo ldquoI am encouraged to see businesses like PRA continuing to hirerdquo said Madison County Mayor Jimmy Harris ldquoThis shows the strength and suc-cess of PRA as well as the regionrdquo ldquoPRA Jackson Site Expandsrdquo continued on page 5

First South Bank Announces Promotions Hunter Simmons President and CEO of First South Bank recently announced the promotions of two employees Sylvia Spencer-Trammell was promoted to the position of Assistant-Vice President She has been with the bank for over 15 years and currently holds a position as a Loan Administrator She and her husband Mark reside in South Jackson She graduated from Duncan U Fletcher Senior High School at Neptune Beach Florida The past two years she has participated in the Cultural Exchange program hosting exchange students from Japan Slovakia Poland and Thailand Melanie Luckey has been promoted to the position of Assistant Vice-President She has been with the bank for 11 years and currently holds the position of Controller She and her husband Billy along with their two children reside in Medina Melanie graduated from Humboldt High School and received her BBA in Finance from Middle Tennessee State University Luckey is actively involved in the community through the Jackson Service League Habitat for Humanity and the American Cancer Society She is also a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Humboldt where she is assistant treasurer and serves on the various committees

North Side High School Teacher Recognized By VFW As Citizenship Education Teacher of the Year (9-12 Grades)

The Department of Tennessee Veterans of Foreign Wars was chosen Chief Master Sergeant R Wayne Barron Air Force Junior ROTC Aerospace Science Instructor at North Side High School as the Department of Tennessee Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Citizenship Education Teacher of the Year (9-12 Grades) Chief Barron was selected for this award for his work at North Side High Schoolrsquos Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) program where students become better citizens and leaders Students have the opportunity to learn and practice basic leadership skills while being exposed to military customs and courtesies military organization principals of leadership and US flag etiquette Chief Barron teaches Air Force Junior ROTC curriculum of study in Leadership Air Force Customs and Courtesies and Drill and Ceremony to 120 high school students while he instructs students on how to develop as citizens of character Additionally Chief Barron coaches the drill teams and sports teams for competitions in the greater Mid-South area Chief Barron is a former Outstanding Young Man of America and was recognized nationally as the Air Force Junior ROTC Instructor of the Year world-wide Chief Barron has received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management and is a Distinguished Graduate from the Noncommissioned Officer Academy Under the leadership of Chief Barron North Sidersquos AFJROTC has received numerous awards and recognition in Sports Challenge Competition and Drill Team Competition Since 2008 his cadets have earned over $1000000 in scholarship monies Chief Barronrsquos cadets also participate in community service activ-ities that include serving in the local soup kitchen writing and delivering Valentine cards to local veteran homes and performing Color Guard duties at numerous community events Chief Barron will be attending the VFW Mid-Winter Conference in Nashville Tennessee in February at which he will be formally presented the award at that time Chief Barron is a native of Dyer Tennessee He entered the Air Force in June 1978 and retired at his present rank July 1 2008 He has been teaching at North Side for five years

The Department of Tennessee Veterans of Foreign Wars was chosen Chief Master Sergeant R Wayne Barron Air Force Junior ROTC Aerospace Science Instructor at North Side High School as the Department of Tennessee Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Citizenship Education Teacher of the Year (9-12 Grades) Chief Barron was selected for this award for his work at North Side High Schoolrsquos Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) program where students become better citizens and leaders Students have the opportunity to learn and practice basic leadership skills while being exposed to military customs and courtesies military organization principals of leadership and US flag etiquette Chief Barron teaches Air Force Junior ROTC curriculum of study in Leadership Air Force Customs and Courtesies and Drill and Ceremony to 120 high school students while he instructs students on how to develop as citizens of character Additionally Chief Barron coaches the drill teams and sports teams for competitions in the greater Mid-South area Chief Barron is a former Outstanding Young Man of America and was recognized nationally as the Air Force Junior ROTC Instructor of the Year world-wide Chief Barron has received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management and is a Distinguished Graduate from the Noncommissioned Officer Academy Under the leadership of Chief Barron North Sidersquos AFJROTC has received numerous awards and recognition in Sports Challenge Competition and Drill Team Competition Since 2008 his cadets have earned over $1000000 in scholarship monies Chief Barronrsquos cadets also participate in community service activ-ities that include serving in the local soup kitchen writing and delivering Valentine cards to local veteran homes and performing Color Guard duties at numerous community events Chief Barron will be attending the VFW Mid-Winter Conference in Nashville Tennessee in February at which he will be formally presented the award at that time Chief Barron is a native of Dyer Tennessee He entered the Air Force in June 1978 and retired at his present rank July 1 2008 He has been teaching at North Side for five years
