MLK Day of Service - What a Joyful, Noisy Day!

Trinity members and youth joined over 150 other volunteers on January 18th at the Martin Luther King Day of Service. Despite the terrible weather, we prepared 25,000 meals, packaged, and boxed them. The meals were provided to local area food banks for distribution to their clients. Our hairnet wearing team packed over 175 per hour, some staying until the very last minute to help with tear down. Thank you to everyone who participated!

Church School News

What an amazing morning. Thank you so much to Kyle Evans and to past Youth Missionaries for sharing their time with Church School on January 11th. She shared about living in Haiti and about the Vacation Bible School programs that they facilitated last summer. They also shared about the Tabasamu dental education program. We even learned how to say "Peace" in Haitian Creole- how exciting!!

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper

Tuesday, February 17th from 6:00-7:30 p.m. is the time for our Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. Come celebrate the end of the season of Epiphany with a traditional pancake supper. $4.00 per person or $10.00 per family. Shrove Tuesday (also known as Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday, or pancake day) is the day preceding Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Pancakes are associated with the day preceding Lent because they were a way to use up rich foods such as eggs, milk, and sugar, before the fasting season of the 40 days of Lent.

Lenten Soup Suppers and Reflections begin on Wednesday, February 25

Lenten Day of Reflection: Saturday March 14 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel

This year we will do something a little different. We shall be discussing a very short but inspiring work, A Grief Observed, by C. S. Lewis. It is a composition of four handwritten journals he wrote in an attempt to work through his pain at the death of his wife, Joy. It is a journey of rationality abandoned and faith in God regained. His experience can easily reverberate through those who have experienced any number of losses: bereavement, divorce and separation, loss of employment, moral failure in one's own life, or in the life of a key role model, wherever hopes have been dashed - any differing situations when God is silent and the wind is shrill. A meditation on his journey is most appropriate during the Lenten Season, a time we set aside to intentionally reflect with discernment and honesty our relationship with God. The book is easily obtained through your library, Amazon, or can be purchased through the Church Office. The movie, Shadowlands, is the story of C. S. Lewis and Joy and stars Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger. It reveals Lewis' deep pain at her death, but does not delve much into the losing of his faith and the regaining of his faith in God, which is what the book does and which we will be discussing. Nevertheless it is a very powerful movie and worth seeing. The Day of Reflection will be led by The Rev. Ginny Sheay.

Office Help Needed

The office at Trinity is in need of volunteers who can help out once a week for about 3 hours. If you would like to be added to our substitution list that works too. No secretarial skills are needed. Some of the tasks that need to be attended to are to answer calls, file, retrieve the mail, on occasion go to the bank,

some computer skills would be very helpful. There are other task that come up on a daily basis as well. If you are interested, please contact Betty Stagg at: (215) 262-1478 email: [email protected] or Debbie Stedman, Parish Administrator 215-297-5135 or [email protected]

House Tour Co-Chairs Needed

Planning is already under way for the Trinity Autumn House Tour 25th Anniversary Celebration. The Tour date is Saturday, October 17th and there will be additional fun activities related to the Tour planned which you will be hearing about soon. Please mark your calendars now for October 17 and we will look forward to your participation in any number of ways, large and small. Jacqui Griffith, Rick Lansill, and Roger Stikeleather have again agreed to help chair the event this year but are looking for other co-chairs to work alongside them. As we have learned from other projects, more active leadership spreads the work-load and produces a richer event. Please contact Jacqui, Rick or Roger if you have any interest in becoming part of the leadership team. Your support is invaluable and much appreciated.

Parish Birthdays and Anniversaries

Beginning with this issue of the Tidings, we will be listing parish member's birthday and anniversaries once a month instead of weekly in the notices. This will give all an opportunity to acknowledge these occasions with their fellow parishioners. Dates (no years) will be provided.

Inclusion of these names and information is based solely on information that has been provided to the church office.
