HELP FOR THE HOMELESS

So blessed to have a roof over my head. Not every-one does. This year thanks to many helpers we were able to take nine mats, blankets and hats to the homeless. I wish that we could organize and do more in 2018. What we need: -People to collect, cut and join bags that would eventually end up in the dump. -Crocheters willing to make a 6’x4’ mat to protect a person from the ground. -New black and gray trash bags, newspaper bags and those willing to cut, connect or crochet. We can make a difference. Will post a time, date and place to organize. Sharon Organtini @ 717-628-1812

DON’T FORGET YOUR TAX APPOINTMENT

For anyone new to Arbor Gate, volunteers offer free income tax preparation and filing service through the AARP Taxaide program. All volunteers are IRS trained and certified to do individual income taxes. On Monday February 5th, Denise will start taking appointments for this free Income Tax Preparation here at Arbor Gate. Appointments will start on Friday, March 2nd.

We will prepare and E-File both Federal and State Taxes, and where applicable local taxes and property tax rebates.

This service is also available starting in February and continuing through April on Tuesdays at the Myerstown Church of the Brethren, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Lebanon Senior Center. Please call 717-274-2596 on a Tuesday or Thursday between 9 AM and 2 PM beginning in late January to schedule an appointment at these locations.

For any questions, call Jack Monahan @ 717-866-7508

HELP WANTED

As many of you know I have been helping in the kitchen by running the dishwasher when we have meals using the Center’s china. I think it is now time to get someone to help me or take over when I am not available. The work is not difficult, but it takes some strength to lift full trays of cups or glasses. It also means working through the whole time of the meal and afterward for a while. If you are willing to learn the job and do the work from time to time, please contact me, Judy Wanfried @ 717-866-4789 or Joan Viveiros @ 717-628-1061.

RESIDENTS DEFY WEATHER TO HEAR CARINA

Record breaking single digit temperatures did not discourage residents and their families and friends from enjoying an extraordinary concert by Carina and Gary Cohen on the very first day of the new year at Lakeview Center. The gifted young soprano entertained us with an all Gershwin concert, including selections from the opera, “Porgy and Bess”. In addition, Gary performed a beautiful rendition of “Rhapsody in Blue”. If that was not enough, the audience was treated afterwards to delicious baked goodies. Then, many stayed to gather around the piano as Dr. Robert Cohen (Carina’s father) accompanied residents for a sing along with Carina. What a grand and refreshing way to launch the New Year!
