3 MUSTANGER Febr uar y 2019
President’s report A.K.A.
Welcome to 2019 all my fellow Mustangers! As a car guy, I’m convinced that January is really only an exciting time for those who haphazardly commit to resolutions, clear snow for a living, or make money off booking tropical vacations for those stuck in the winter funk. For the majority of you reading this, I believe the current calendar really just reflects a period in time when our beloved ma-chines are all unwillingly tucked away, and we are all caught up in the daily re-gime of piloting our boring daily’s to and fro every-where in either complete darkness or through winters detestable white crap that covers the roads periodically. A little harsh? Perhaps, but 100% truth in my mind, LOL! While the auctions in Arizona, and prepping for Calgary’s largest indoor car show in a few mere weeks does take away some the blues, I find myself seriously craving
some solid Stang time. Take this as a lesson all of you…do NOT buy one of your dream cars in October when you live in the Great White North. Silly end of the season blow out pric-ing. On a more positive note though, 2019 is going to be an awesome year, and I cannot be happier it is final-ly here! First and foremost, the opportunity to review and perhaps create a change in both our Provin-cial and Federal govern-ments. Although debate on which certain parties are the best for the well being of Albertans and Canadians are best left to being dis-cussed over a wobbly pop amongst friends, I’m certain that even the opportunity to voice our opinion through ballot will create a more positive political atmos-phere than what has enshrouded Alberta and Canada for the last 4 years. The Mustang is 55 years
old this April! Amazing! Quite a significant feat to be sure, as only the Subur-ban, Porsche 911, F-series truck and the Mercedes Sl surpass it. While some will argue the Corvette does too, I don’t count it as they skipped 1983! The Morgan 4/4 is also up there to, but really, how many have you seen? Surprisingly, the Toyota Corolla is over 50 years old, as well as the Landcruiser pushing 65 years Although the 55th on the surface is probably not as “big ticket” as an even number celebration like a 50th or 60th, it’s im-portance cannot be over-stated as 2019 brings us the grand opening of the Mustang Owners Museum in Charlotte North Carolina! I’d love to sit here and re-mind you all of the epic trip we have planned to attend in person, but I know you have all heard it and I do not want to remind you all

of how awesome it will be, as I’ll be sure to do enough of that once we are back!! LOL! Did everyone see the in-credible 2020 GT500 un-veiled at the Detroit Inter-national Auto Show, with the first one being sold at the BJ to Mr. Craig Jack-son? That looks like 1.1 million reasons to smile! Wow 700+ HP in the in-credible S550 plat-form….Incredible! Auto only though? Kind of disappoint-ing, but can you even imag-ine how fast it will be? I could think of a lot worse ways to part with 100K, alt-hough I’m out on this one until at least 2024…HAHA! I’m already exhausted and I haven’t even starting
discussing all the incredible events that the AMAC ex-ecutive has already been hard at work on for 2019! It will be an EPIC year, with even more events planned all summer long than usual! Be sure to keep posted, and shine up your driving shoes as you’re not going to want to be left behind! So before I sign off for an-other few weeks, I want to tell you all about a crazy idea I have! It will be officially announced in the next few days/week, but we are looking for unique ideas, from either a de-scription of an idea or a full blown design that we can use to create the 36th annual Presidential poster. The selected idea or entry will have their own personal Mustang featured on the poster and the dash plaques. Submit your ideas
to my email at [email protected], or amac-news.shaw.ca. I cannot wait to see what you can all come up with! Look for an upcoming email describing what we are looking for and for additional information. In the meantime, if you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me di-rectly at [email protected] or 403-510-1869. So, although I cannot take the steed for a rip, I’m go-ing to pour myself a Guinness, crank up the heat in the garage, put the top down, and sit in the drivers seat making driving noises until I fall asleep all cuddled up on the Recaros. That should hold me till April….I hope. Hasta La Vista Baby!

Royal Rally was some-thing we heard about one day on the radio. Virgin Radio was an-nouncing all about this amazing assortment of vehicles gathering at Davenport Automotive. It only took a few minutes before I could find even more details on Facebook. Imports. American Muscle. Euro-pean exotics. Everything represented... "car minded people on an au-tomotive scavenger hunt". We can do this!! So we sign up for the next run. "Alpine Run". Calgary to Fernie back to Calgary. We signed
up, were added to the wait list and eagerly waited for our ac-ceptance. Finally it came. We had to come up with a team name... and a "theme" if we wanted. That was the day the "Blackmore Bandits" were born. It was also the same event we met Tanya Anderson as a "60's Sister".
Our first Rally, and every one since, has been a collection of amazing car people, and cars—from exotics, to imports, to muscle.... everyone is out to have a good time, answer some riddles, drive (sometimes fast!)
& make memories.
We've visited Lumbreck Falls and answered q u e s t i o n s a b o u t Dinosaurs found there for points.... found the worlds largest piggy bank and taken a pic-ture of our car in front of it... and travelled over Canada's highest paved road and over the world guiness book of records "most bridges in the shortest distance". Roy-al Rally has shown us things in our own back yard we may have never stopped to see, but driv-en by dozens of times.

The king of the sixth-generation Mustang arrived Monday when the 2020 Ford Mustang Shel-by GT500 was unveiled at the 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. While its power output is a talking point, racers took note of its standard hood pins.
Ford said the new snake will have over 700 horsepower from its monster 5.2-liter V-8, which is blown by a 2.65-liter Eaton supercharger that spools 12 psi. While that's not a final horsepow-er rating, it's specifically, although not numerically, "more than enough."
The latest Mustang to beat the Shelby name will be fast. Really fast. Ford said it'll run the
quarter mile in less than 11 seconds, and sprint from 0 to 60 mph in the mid three-second
range.
Ford Performance boss Carl Widmann told Motor Authority the hood pins are necessary to
make sure the hood is stable at speed.
"If you took the hood pins off that car and ran it, it'll lift," Widmann said.
Ford will not sell the 2020 Shelby GT500 without hood pins. Period. Don't even ask.
The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500
needs its hood pins, here's why...

DID YOU KNOW...
On April 16, 1964, the day before its
public unveiling, Ford sponsored
simultaneous programs on the three
major TV networks as part of a
national marketing blitz.
The Mustang was seen by 29 million
people during prime time. The next
day, Mustang ads ran in more than
2,600 newspapers..
Dealers were inundated with
requests for the vehicle. In Garland,
Texas, 15 customers bid on the
same Mustang, and the winner
insisted on sleeping in the car
overnight to guarantee that it would-
n’t get sold from under him before
his check cleared the next day.
Mustang-crazed parents bought 93,000
pedal-powered children’s Mustangs
during the 1964 Christmas season.

The Mustang is one of fewer than 10 nameplates
to survive in continuous production for more than
50 years without missing a model year.
For more than 50 years, red and blue have been the color preference of Ford
Mustang owners. In all time overall color popularity, red comes in first with 21%
and blue is a close second at 17%. Silver is not far behind at 14%, and white
garners 13% of Mustang colors. Blue was particularly popular when the Mus-
tang was introduced, while white took over in the mid to late 70s. By the 80s
and 90s, red was established as a clear winner for Mustang colors. In fact,
about one in five of all Mustangs built have been painted a shade of red. Now,
black has become the most popular color in late generation mustangs.
