February 2019 Newsletter
Dear Parents/Carers,
We continue to have a push on attendance. Last year, you may recall that those pupils who had attained
100% attendance in either the Autumn, Spring or Summer term were entered into a prize draw. We gave
away 5 bikes to pupils. This year we are giving away 5 scooters. For your child to have a chance to win a
scooter, they will need to achieve 100% attendance in either the Autumn, Spring or Summer term. Current-
ly our overall school attendance is 95.51%, which is below the national average figure of 96%. My expecta-
tion is that all children are in school 100% of the time. Your child’s current attendance percentage will be
recorded on their school report that will be issued at the end of this week. Please take note of the percent-
age figure as we do have many children whose attendance is very good while there are some who have
achieved 100%. However, there are a handful of children, for whatever reason, who have an attendance per-
centage that is unsatisfactory. For these children, it is the responsibility of parents/carers to ensure that their
child’s level of attendance improves over the rest of the academic year.
Many of you will be aware that we launched a new school website in January of this year. A significant
amount of work has gone into the development of this new site but with anything new, we are experiencing
a few teething problems. We are working through these as quickly as we can as I would like to ensure that
your experience of navigating the site is as user friendly as possible.
As a school, safeguarding the welfare of your child is paramount and is at the heart of all decision making.
Over the years, we have needed to restrict parents/carers from making electronic recordings of certain
school events and more recently we have implemented restrictions in the morning for parents/carers from
passing the gate near to the office. I have been encouraged by the response from parents/carers who have
understood why the most recent restriction has been enforced as the space near to the main gate is limited
and was regularly blocked by adults dropping children off, thus restricting access for other children to pass
through safely. I would like to say a big thank to parents for their support with this matter. Our ban of the
use of mobile phones only restricted their use within the building. However, there was an incident this week
where a staff member approached a parent/carer in the playground, instructing them to put their phone
away as it appeared that they were recording events in the playground. This is unfortunate as the actions of
one impacts on others. Therefore, I have now taken the decision to extend the ban on the use of mobile
phones across the whole site with immediate effect. This may seem extreme but there are pupils attending
the school whose parents/carers have requested that their child’s image not be captured while at school. I
can’t control how images are used if they are taken by another parent/carer but I can put safeguard
measures in place to stop such situations from happening in the first place. I would ask parents/carers to
make sure that they are not on their phones once they walk through the school gates and that phones are
put away. If seen using your phone, staff will instruct you to put it away. Thank you for your support and
cooperation in this matter.
Regards,
Lee
FREE ‘Magic Breakfast’ for YEAR 3 - 6
Research has shown that children who have a healthy breakfast achieve more at
school – make sure your child doesn’t miss out!
At the beginning of the year, we launched a new scheme, Magic Breakfast for children in
years 3, 4, 5 and 6. Magic Breakfast is a registered charity to help ensure that no child is
too hungry to learn.
The children have access to the bagels every morning in the playground from
9:00-9:10am and will be provided with their bagel once we have received parental
consent.
I am pleased to say that each day the uptake of the bagels is becoming more and more
popular and seems to be going down a treat with the children.
Top quality bagels (free of charge) will be on offer in the playground every morning
between 9.00-9.10am to pupils in Key Stage 2!
In order for your child to be served a breakfast bagel, we will need your consent. Please
ensure you read the ingredients and allergen list and sign accordingly.
You don’t need to register your child, they can just turn up on the day.
Ingredients for Magic Plain Bagel: Wheat Flour, Water, Wholemeal flour, Sugar,
Salt, Yeast and Malt
Allergens: Wheat flour (gluten), Wholemeal flour (gluten)
Advisory note: Made in a factory which uses milk products, contains wheat gluten
and yeast and contain sesame seeds
School Trip to The London Aquarium
Year 1 had an exciting start to their new topic 'Under the Sea' with a visit to
Sea Life Aquarium. They had a lovely day identifying and learning facts about
various sea animals. The weather was kind to us and it was a great opportunity
to see some famous London landmarks.

Impact of Forgotten Items
An increasing number of Parents/Carers are coming into the office
throughout the day to drop off
forgotten lunch, school bags, PE kits and homework.
We encourage you to ask your child to take
responsibility for these items and to bring all items with them to
school.
It is becoming increasingly difficult to take items to the class per-
sonally for your child. We take great pride at Chadwell in our
learning and calling
children out of class to collect forgotten items means that they
miss out on valuable learning time.
Thank you for your cooperation.
School Start Times School starts at 9.10am each day.
The gates open from 9.am and will close at 9.10am.
In order for our children to gain the greatest benefit from
their education, it is vital that they attend school regularly
and should also be at school on time on time every day unless
the reason for the absence is unavoidable.
Children arriving late to school will be
recorded in the late book and consistent
lateness will be followed up in the late book and may result in
the Education Welfare Officer being informed.
Late Arrivals For those children who arrive late to school due to an
unavoidable appointment, they must arrive by 11am
at the latest.
Children arriving later than 11am will be refused entry
and will be asked to return at the start of afternoon
registration (1pm).
