First thoughtsDavid hull, Pastor
the sixth Chapter of the gospel of John is the longest chapter in this great gospel. the entire chapter develops the theme of Jesus being the Bread of Life who came down from heaven as a gift for us. Even greater than the manna in the old testament which was known as the Bread of heaven, Jesus offers eternal life to us if we will be nourished by this Bread. During Lent and Easter we will study John 6 together on sunday mornings as we eat of this Bread of heaven.
Perhaps our prayer during this season of Lent can be the following from Ken gire:
help me, o god, to live the recipe before i give the recipe. give me the kneading strength to work the words into the doughy recesses of my life. help me to leave it alone a while so it can rise. help me not to fear the oven so it can bake. And grant that in the baking, the world would be able to roll down its window and savor the aroma of freshly baked bread .... -- Ken gire,Windows of the soul (grand rapids, Mi.: Zondervan Publishing house, 1996), 190.

this is an exciting year for singers in our sanctuary Choir. Several significant opportunities have dropped in our laps (including a trip to Washington and a concert with the hso). Because of our involvement in recent years with a new composition, The World Beloved: a Bluegrass Mass, our choir was extended the invitation to send some singers to a performance of the work in New York. Representing our church and choir will be Lindsey Bayer, Alan and Pam Jones, Lee and sherry rhoads, rosemary Wolfe, and thomas Wolfe! here is a note from Lindsey to the choir about the experience that is occurring this week:

The time has finally arrived for Thomas, Lee, Alan, rosemary and Lindsey to participate in the Distinguished Concerts International of New York (DCINY) presentation of The World Beloved – A Bluegrass Mass with approximately 150 other singers, soloists, and orchestra players from around the world. We will carry you in our hearts and, particularly, will be sustained on the Kyrie and Gloria because of the previous privilege of singing these sections with you under Billy’s inspiring direction. Squeezed in between the awe of “The Big Apple” – strolling through some of Central Park, going to a play, opera, or museum with new/old friends, as well as the humbling “Ground Zero” – our time will consist primarily of rehearsals Saturday – Monday under Ms. Nancy Mink, the guest conductor: Four pages of score markings were required on our music but, thankfully, Billy has taught us well on marking scores! This touching and challenging composition is based on 1 John 4:10-18: “This is real love-not that we loved God, but that He first loved us...set aside his crown...cloaked himself in human shape; he came down...died on the cross to take away our sin...so he can dwell in and among us now… the heart, body and soul of his creation, man”. oh, glory Be, oh glory Be to god! (Amen) We will be standing tall in your prayers during the concert in Carnegie Hall, Monday Night, February 18, 2013.
