From Fr. Davy’s Desk:

The Gospel passage this weekend taken from the Gospel of Mark is very appropriate for our reflec-tion. We read about Jesus who goes around during the day preaching and curing the sick. In the evening he went to a deserted place to pray. We see in the ministry of Jesus the combination of both contemplation and action. In the modern world there are many people who are always busy with their work. Some work six or seven days a week and come home tired and exhausted. They don’t have time to pray. Here Jesus challenges us with his example of prayer and action. He never got tired of working or praying. Let the role model of Jesus inspire us to combine contemplation and action in our life as well. I enjoyed my vacation and home visit (India) last month. One month went so fast. Weather was be-tween 75-80 degrees. I just escaped from the freezing weather. 90th birthday of my mother went well. There were 9 priests to celebrate the thanksgiving Mass. The reception with lunch was at-tended very well with 500 people including four New Yorkers. My mother asked me to thank every-one who sent her cards and gifts. My nephew’s wedding and great niece’s baptism also went well with five – seven priests and many friends and family members. Feast of St. Sebastian in my home parish was very colorful with street procession, fireworks, illumination, etc. I also attended a few community celebrations of the Carmelites. Golden Jubilee celebration of thir-teen priests of our province, ordination of new priests, etc. really helped me to meet and greet many of our CMI members. I also could join the thanksgiving Mass of 47 newly ordained Carmelite (CMI) priests. I thank all of you for your special prayers for my family safe and travels. Special thanks to Fr. Antony for his hard work in my absence.

Fr.

Padre Kavungal Davy, CMI

World Day for Consecrated Life

Today, Sunday, February 4th, is World Day for Consecrated Life. We recognize and give thanks for those who have consecrated their lives to God and the Church through vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. May the light of Christ shine brightly through men and women who choose consecrated life to live out their baptismal commitment, especially those who serve in the Diocese of Brooklyn now or who have been part of our history.

Prayer for Vocations

Source of all life, we offer you our praise and thanks for creating us out of

your abundant love. You sent your Son, Jesus, to teach us and show us the way to live. You summons us to proclaim the Good News

of Jesus’ power to heal.

You call each of us to holiness. Strengthen our commitment to prayer and service. Bless our Church with men and women

who dedicate their lives to you in consecrated life.

May we, your people, proclaim the Gospel whether it is convenient or inconvenient.

We trust that you will empower us through the gift of your Holy Spirit.

Amen.
