W ell hello my beautiful Orca family! I hope you all had a relax-
ing Winter Break for the last two or three weeks of December and enjoyed
a magical Christmas as well. Happy 2012! This is our first newsletter of the
brand new, long-awaited year and so I wanted to sneak in a few words
to all of you. Remember that New Year's Resolutions shouldn't be made
just to make a difference in yourself, but also a difference in our communi-
ty! Whatever situation you encounter, it is never too early or too late to
take action. I hope that each and every one of you will use this change
of year as motivation to be the best you can be.
It's been a crazy year, really. I never imagined I would be serving as your
Lieutenant Governor this year and feel so honored to have. You all have been amazing and a joy
to be with. My term is coming to a close, however, and someone very lucky will be able to take
over. So please remember to attend our Conclave in February to find out who our division's 2012-
13 Lieutenant Governor will be! Along with that, we have District Convention in April where you
won't want to miss seeing your elect being installed. Maybe even crying on stage.
I still have a few months left to go, though, so I want us to all spend it to the fullest. I really hope that
I will be able to see many of your faces at the last Division Council Meetings of this year. I've had
such memorable times with all of you in previous months and don't want it to end. There will defi-
nitely always be several of your Orca family members there who
you can reunite with and have a good time.
And just to throw it in, we all know this year won't be happy every
minute. So when times get tough, just keep swimming

Channel Islands High School!
Two months in a row, this club has shown that it can improve and grow
even if the start is rough and things aren't going that great. The members
of this club have personally shown our Lieutenant Governor that they
have the ability to do better and work hard for their club if they put their
minds to it and worked as a team. Maybe it was a little late, but it's bet-
ter late than never. From no service projects every month, this club has
slowly started to increase service opportunities to its members. From 0 to-
tal member hours to 60 hours to 300 hours. It's outstanding and says a lot
about this club. And because of this incredible growth, Channel Islands
was chosen as the Division 42 West's Club of the Month for December.
Keep up the great work!

Candidate Training Conference was something different. At first, I
had this mindset of intimidation because I knew that most of the people
that were attending were all competing for the same thing: being their
division's Lieutenant Governor next year. As my day went on, my intimi-
dation turned into love and appreciation. It really opened my eyes dur-
ing our breakout sessions how passionate my group members are about
being Lieutenant Governor. Talking to their Lieutenant Governors was
also another perk because open forum made me feel like I was right at
home; the comfort of being able to talk to the Lieutenant Governors
about possible struggles and the overall
friendly atmosphere from everyone. It grew
on me, it's like my motivation went on a whole
new level. I have to say, though, my favorite
part was when I went up and did the prac-
tice speech. Basically, it was great and I look
forward to Conclave!
