The Columbus Chapter serves the entire Eastern Half of Ohio (in the Great Lakes Region of IISE)

I researched what February is known for and yep, it is best known for Valentine’s Day
and hence Chocolate. Then I searched for images of boxes of Valentine’s Day Chocolate
and what do you know, I found one that had a bunch of Buckeye Candies in it!! see
above. Perfect.
So, as we start February, let’s think about LIVING, and LOVING, and SERVING..

2—Highlights from our January 26 Lunch and Learn Webinar—
The Next 7 Habits for Young Professionals
What are the Second 7 Habits of Highly Successful Young ISE Professionals?
1. Seek and develop strong relationships with Mentors; 2. Build Relationships, get out there and network, Linkedin, IISE, Local/Virtual Chapters, Annual
IISE Conference, Young Professionals Organization; 3. Take Charge of your Brand—work on an aggressive plan to continue to develop your Brand; 4. Be Visible and Manage how you are Positioned—Brag, the art of tooting your own horn without
blowing it 5. Develop Curiosity and become an increasingly Broad and Deep ISE Professional; 6. Establish Thought Leadership, develop the ability to have a point of view and build your
Believability Index; 7. Learn how to Grow and Sustain your Trust Account.
Elizabeth Schweizer, Industry Advisory Board and Engineering Services at Disney, spoke to the first two habits. She shared results from an IAB/YP survey recently completed and discussed ways that IISE is providing offerings that help you find great Mentors and also help you grow professional relationships over time. Jared Dunlap, President of IISE’s Young Professional Group and Management Consultant with Accenture, spoke to Habits 3 and 4. Jared also discussed the Purpose and initiatives that IISE’s Young Professional Group has adopted and is developing and I’d encourage all of you Student Members and recently graduated ISE’s to take full advantage of this group. Jared Frederici, Regional VP for the Great Lakes Region, and Senior Consultant with the Poirier Group wrapped up our webinar by covering off the last three Habits and provided personal examples from his early career that highlighted what the Habits are, why they are important, and how you develop them.
1. Was well enrolled (138
Registered) in and attended
(68 viewed), however, we
experienced a technical
glitch (sound for the first 20
minutes)
2. We will be delivering this
same Webinar again on 14
June, 12-1, Eastern so look
for registration
3. Outstanding content and
advice offered by our three
IISE Young Professionals.
3. Were you a Student Chapter IISE member and
then didn’t Join IISE as a Professional Member?? We have over 200 Student Chapter Members who have not ‘converted’ to professional members since
2012!! Only 10% of the Graduating ISE’s matriculate to their Professional Society.
We want to change that in OHIO!!
Our aim is to create additional value for, to create a compelling reason for you to convert from being a
student Chapter Member to becoming a Professional Member. Be and ISE for Life and take advantage
of all the career development opportunities IISE has to offer. I joined my first year out and have been a
member since 1973 and have accrued tremendous value from being an ISE for life with IISE.
If you don’t receive an e-mail from us with this offer, just send me a note,
[email protected] and I’ll sign you up to start to receive the benefits of being
in our Virtual IISE Chapter for All Ohio.
S A , A Z
Did you know? That Student Chapter
members can convert to Regular
Professional Member Status for half price
their first year out of School?
YEP, only $77.00—That’s a Cyber
Monday type DEAL!!
And, did you know that to encourage this
conversation, our Professional Chapter
has gotten IISE to extend the ‘grace
period’, we’re inviting all Student
Chapter Members who didn’t convert all
the way back to 2012!!!

One thing I was told by my professors at Ohio State when I graduated was that I should
be a member of IISE, my professional society. They told me that a M.D. would never
think of not being a member of the AMA for life so why would an ISE not be a member
of IISE for life. That made sense to me and I joined IISE in 1973 and have been a
member ever since.
This is a HABIT that I’m glad I created and it has paid off for me over my career in
many, many ways.
6—Get to know our IISE Members in the Columbus Virtual Chapter and Mini-Region

7—IISE Chapter 1 supports “Learning thru a Lifetime” at
Columbus Early Learning Centers
Industrial and systems engineers make things better in any industry —Solving
complex problems is our common objective. IISE Chapter 1 has chosen to volunteer
in our community to make a difference – and we need your help!
Which organization are we starting with?
Columbus Early Learning Centers (CELC) operates four locations in the Central Columbus Community.
Of the nearly 300 children that are served at these centers each year, nearly 75% live below 150% of the
federal poverty level. To make early childhood education affordable, 95% receive public assistance or
CELC scholarship funds to give all children access to the education they deserve.
