2.5 Further information on top-hat rail mounting
The IPC FEC-Standard should not be slid on the top-hat rail. The top-hat rail clamp presses the IPC FEC-Standard so firmlyagainst the top-hat rail that unintentional moving of the IPCFEC-Standard is not possible.
If the IPC FEC-Standard has to be placed at a different posi-tion on the top-hat rail, remove the device from the top-hat
rail and place it back onto the rail at the desired position.Moving the IPC FEC-Standard on the top-hat rail causes highmechanical wear at the top-hat rail itself.
The correct latching-in method (as described in Section 2.2) isonly subject to a very low degree of wear and can thus berepeated as often as required.

2.6 Earthing the IPC FEC-Standard
Before the IPC FEC-Standard is commissioned it has to beearthed. The stranded cable required to this purpose has tohave a cross-section of at least 2.5 mm 2.
2.6.1 Earthing without a top-hat rail
Slide the clamp-type cable lug of the earthing cable onto oneof the two lug holders positioned on the two sides of the IPCFEC-Standard. The other end of the earthing cable isconnected to the central star-head earthing point.Thisearthing applies for an example without top-hat rail (see Fig.2/3).

If a top-hat rail/suppor t rail is selected as the fixing alterna-
tive, it has to have an equipotential bonding to the star-headearthing point of the control cabinet or of the feeder conduc-tor. If the top-hat rail then becomes an equipotential bondingstrip, several IPC FEC-Standard devices may be fastened to it.The earthing terminals in the form of lug holders (6.3 mm) arethen defined as a functional earthing and can be used to con-tact shieldings.

3.4.1 Proper use of the SM14/SM15
The interface converter TTL-RS232 PS1 SM15 was conceivedfor the industrial installation of serial communication. Thescope of delivery of the PS1 SM15 does not include a zeromodem cable. A corresponding cable is to be created asshown in the figure below. The connector pin assignment of the SM15 corresponds to that of the SM14. The specificationsof the EIA (Electronic Industrial Association) RS232-C are to
be observed when implementing a serial communication con-nection.
A shielded cable (braided shield, 80% coverage) is requiredin order to achieve a sufficient level of immunity to interfer-ence. The shielding is to be created as a large area and aslow-resistance.
The SM14 programming cable is not to be used in the senseof an industrial installation. The scope of delivery of the SM14
includes a zero modem cable.

3.5.3 Connection assignment of the analog inputs
The analog inputs of the IPC FEC-Standard are used to detectanalog states for example of temperature, rotational speed, speed, pressure or other sensors.
The IPC FEC-Standard types 620 and 660 have 3 analog in-puts (0-20 mA) available. The resolution of the inputs amountto 12 bits. Connection to a connector PS1 SAC30 is implem-
ented as shown below. The two connectors PS1 SAC11 and PS1 SAC31 are not suit-able for use in this case since the integrated LEDs can cause ameasuring error in the analog value.
Please noteThe analog input signal lines are to be implemented withshielded cables. Cables with braided shielding (80% cover-
age) are suitable. The shielding is to be connected at themodule end, as a large area and as low-resistance.
Please noteThe input impedance of the analog input is not linear andgreater than 300 R.If an additional current input is added in the current path(0-20 mA) of the analog input, the total impedance is over300 R.A voltage measurement parallel to the input resistanceproduces non-linear measured values. Please refer to the technical data for more detailed in-formation on he input impedance.

3.5.4 Connection assignment of the analog outputs
The analog output of an IPC FEC-Standard is used to controlanalog actuators, for example, pressure regulator, tempera-ture controller, level controller, etc.
The FEC Standard types 620 and 660 have 1 analog output. The internal resolution of the output amounts to 12 bits. Thesignal is a current signal (0-20 mA). The connection to a con-
nector PS1 SAC10 is shown below using a proportional valveas an example.
CautionReversing of the polarity at the supply of the analog outputmodule has to be avoided under all circumstances. Theuse of an external protection (125 mAF) of the outputmodule is recommended.
Please noteThe analog output signal lines are to be implemented withshielded cables. Cables with braided shielding (80%coverage) are suitable. The shielding is to be connected atthe module end, as a large area and as low-resistance.

CautionDo not switch on the power supply after you have com-pleted the wiring of the Power 24V DC, but wait until thewhole installation has been completed.Depending on the design of the power supply and the con-nector used a contact overload may occur.A protection of the feeder cable is to be implemented.
NoteThe connections between the Connectors 1 to 5 and 6 to10 are suitable for the power supply of the outputs or in-puts. The maximum power supply for single contacts of theconnector, is to be taken from the corresponding da-tasheet in every case of use.
3.5.9 Options of the function selector switch
The function selector switch of the IPC FEC-Standard has 2different functionalities.
It can be sampled as a Run/Stop switch per software, whereby the position 0 corresponds to the functionStop and every other position to the function Run.
It can be used as a trimmer. Positions 0-15 can besampled by an application program. Position 0 of thefunction selector switch always means: The programhas been stopped. Before commissioning the switch isto be set to Position 0 (state of delivery).

The function selector switch as a Run/Stop switch:
In this mode a program can be assigned to each of the switchpositions 1 to 15 of the function selector switch. By default
the switch positions 1 - 15 has the meaning that the FEC orthe program of the FEC is in the state RUN (loaded program).
The switch positions can be read out by the program.
The function selector switch as a trimmer:
The function selector switch of the IPC FEC-Standard can beused as a trimmer. In this mode a step-by-step control can beimplemented (for example in order to control the speed of amotor).

The type of use of the function selector switch is determinedby the software. Both functionalities of the function selectorswitch cannot be used simultaneously.
In the state of delivery the switch positions 1 to 15 of thefunction selector switch are without action.
Warning A change in the switch position of the function selectorswitch during running operation can have serious conse-quences depending on the programs which are assignedto the switch positions.
Corresponding precautionary measures therefore alreadyhave to be taken when programming the switches in order toprevent accidents.
For further information on the function selector switch pleaserefer to the respective description on the FST or MultiprogCD.
Before commissioning the switch is to be set to Position 0(state of delivery).
As a Run/STOP switch the function selector switch is used toset the plant to STOP.
By default the position 0 = STOP, the position 1 to F = RUN.
For your information:
A change in the function selector switch while a digital outputis overloaded leads to delayed recognition of the changedposition

3.6 Information on wiring the IPC FEC-Standard
NoteSeparate the signal input and signal output wires inseparate cable ducts and avoid bundling the signals. Donot use the same multiple-conductor cable to wire thesignal inputs and outputs.
CautionCheck the supply voltage and earthing connections as wellas the input/output connections before switching on thecurrent.
Ensure that the mounting screws or screw terminals for the
external connection are fixed. External connections may nothave any visible signs of damage.
Warning Ensure that the supply voltage is separated from the IPCFEC-Standard before replacing the cable or taking similarsteps.
In case of loads, such as forwards/backwards motor contac-tors, which can be dangerous when activated simultaneously, both interlocks outside the IPC FEC-Standard as well as pro-grammed interlocks should exist. This prevents such loadsfrom being activated simultaneously.
Do no connect any of the unused terminals.

NoteFor EMERGENCY-OFF functions the output loads should beswitched off by a switch outside the IPC FEC-Standardwhich separates the load voltage from the output ter-minals.If you connect an EMERGENCY OFF circuit, please ensurethat national wiring or safety regulations are observed.
The connection of a surge voltage suppresser parallel to aninductive load reduces the generation of electrical emittedinterference.
CautionThe operating voltage of the IPC FEC-Standard is protectedagainst reversing of the polarity. Nevertheless, check thepolarity before commissioning.
The output power supply (supply of the outputs) may nothave the polarity reversed. External protection is recom-mended.

4.2 Display elements
The FEC has a Run LED which can light in the colors green, redand orange. Each color indicates an operating state of theFEC.
During starting (Power ON) the LED switches to orange.
In the following sections the states depend on the setting of
the Run/Stop switch. If the Run/Stop switch is set to Stop (0), the LED light orange. If the Run/Stop switch is switched to RUN (1-15) and there isa project on the system, the project is started and the LEDlights up green. If the Run/Stop switch is set to RUN (1-15)and there is no project on the system, there is a fault and theLED lights up red. In the Run state the LED indicates an errorwith red.
A detailed fault description is contained on the respectiveprogramming system (FST or Multiprog) or in the documenta-tion on the corresponding product CD.

The IPC FEC-Standard does notreact
Restart the IPC FEC-Standard. To do so interrupt the power
supply to the IPCFEC-Standard for a fewseconds.
The module does not read anyvalues from the inputs or doesnot write any values to theoutputs
Check whether the powersupply for the inputs andoutputs is applied correctly atthe individual ports [E0, E1,A0, etc.].
No communication is estab-lished via the serial interfacefrom the PC to the IPC FEC-Stan-dard.
Ensure that the cable PS1SM14 is connected at the FECend to the communicationinterface (Com) and not to theextension interface (Ext).
No other program may accessthe serial interface from yourPC
I have connected my SAC SC31(3-row), but do not see a signalwhen the sensor supplies asignal.
Check whether the signal stripand the distribution strips areconnected to 24 V DC.
Check whether you are usinga sensor which supplies +24 VDC as the signal.

Error Remedy
The Power LED does not light upalthough I have connected thepower.
Check whether the powersupply amounts to 24 V DC(not AC).
Check whether you haveconnected +24 V DC to one of the 5 upper connections and 0V to one of the 5 lowerconnections.
Check whether the wires havebeen stripped correctly.
I cannot establish a connectionto the IPC FEC-Standard.
Check whether the IPCFEC-Standard is connected tothe power supply and whetherthe Power LED lights up.
Check whether theprogramming cable SM14 isinserted in the connectionCOM at the IPC FEC-Standard.
Check whether theprogramming cable SM14 isinserted into a free RS232connection at yourprogramming PC and whetherthe correct connection is setin FST or Multiprog (COM1,COM2, etc.).
Check whether 9600 baud8/N/1 is set
Check whether the controlsystem is suitable for theprogramming software usedby you.

Error Remedy
The IPC FEC-Standard does notreact after the power supply hasbeen switched on. The TP LEDlights up, Power and Run LED areoff.
The power supply is lower than18 V. Use a power supply unit that
supplies 24 V. In the case of alaboratory power supply unitthe current limiting can beactivated due to the highermaking current.
The project was loaded correctlyfor the control system, the RunLED lights up after the programhas been loaded, but red
Only FST: Check whether you have the
program 0 in your project. Check whether the program 0
is marked in the project Check whether the FST has
really loaded the project orwhether a fault message isdisplayed in the message win-dow.
Check the fault number (menuOnline, Control Panel) andcompare the error numberwith the FST manual.
