Well this is it. My last column. The past two years of writing these “monthly” columns have been such a wonderful privilege and outlet.

To bring my high school writing career to a close, I thought it would only be fitting to write about the best part of high school in my eyes.

Many of you reading this will

know how I love to sing, but I don’t believe many will know the impact each year of vocal music has had on me.

When I started high school I had one goal; to be an Ambassador. I tried out every year, participated in every choir and got denied every year, except last. Each year I got refuses, I was disappointed thinking why not? But this year I finally realized I had the answer to this question.

Because I was not in Ambassadors every year I got the opportunity to be in every choir. I got the privilege to work with people of all talents, levels and most importantly I learned to never take a day for granted once I was finally in Ambassadors because every performance was my first and last.

I also learned to appreciate every talent level of vocal musicians not everyone can do what the Ambassadors do, but that doesn’t make them less talented or less superior.

Mr. Wright has said it before, each choir is like a child of his. Not one is better than another, they are just different.

What matters is not the title or ranking of the group I am in, or have been in. What really has mattered is that I have gotten to experience the power of music almost every day for the past four years and to me, that is a blessing.

Four years, four choirs, thirteen col-umns, and a lifetime of lessons learned have made me who I am

Every year at this time I’m usually complaining about how long the year has been, and how I can’t wait to get out for the summer. Although I’m psyched for the summer, this year has gone by in a flash. And, looking back, my four years at Fenton High School have gone by so quickly. I still

remember my first day like it was yesterday. But more importantly, when I look back on my years

in high school, I remember the confidence I built through leadership. I was a part of the Student Council every year here. As a freshman, I was scared of everyone at the meetings. I never said a word, because the sheer volume of

upperclassmen was so intimidating. But I still felt that I was a good leader, encouraging students to participate in float build, the homecoming parade, etc. I was proud to be the president of our freshman class.

As I entered my sophomore year, I was a little more confident, considering I was no long the bottom of the food chain. I felt less self conscious when I rose my hand to speak in the meetings. Junior year was similar, in that I became more confident in my ideas and leadership skills.

Senior year, however, was the best. It was that feeling I had as an eighth grader, of being on top. My ego was bigger than ever, and honestly I thought I was the funniest kid around. In reality, I probably sounded like an idiot half the time, but the confidence I gained was invaluable to my leadership skills. In the meetings I said anything that popped into my head, and some of the things I said were actually not half bad.

So I guess, looking back, I would say that Student Council was great for me. I learned a lot about confidence and leadership, and those are probably two invaluable qualities I will bring with me into the real world from Fenton High School.

High school has given me invaluable skills though pro-grams such as Student Council
