thFesta Italiana 8 Edition
esta Italiana, the flagship event for the
promotion of ‘Made in Italy’ in India, Forganised by the Indo-Italian Chamber of
thCommerce & Industry, enters its 8 edition this
year.
Through a series of events such as exhibitions,
seminars, concerts and round tables, Festa
Italiana has always showcased itself as an
exceptional meeting platform between the
Indian and Italian markets.
From 2002 to date, Festa Italiana has
continuously reinvented itself, passionately
devoting itself to promoting Italian culture,
lifestyle and Italian excellence in India.
In its early years, Festa Italiana was
characterised mainly by the promotion of the
Italian lifestyle, showcasing fashion, typical
products, Italian films and music. Wine-and-
food weeks introduced the Indian public to
Italian culinary delights, and music and films
were promoted through concerts of international
caliber (La Traviata in 2004 and the Scala
Concert in 2005) and Italian film festivals
(Mumbai and Chennai in 2008, Goa and
Bangalore in 2009).
In its later editions, Festa Italiana also promoted
the technical and engineering know-how and
expertise which have made Italian design and
the Italian lifestyle unique and inimitable
globally.
Italy is the centre of artistic output, fashion and
design but to understand its uniqueness, it is
necessary to explain the connection between
the excellence of Italian products and the
technological know-how behind it.
In 2010, Festa Italiana is launching an
innovative initiative which exalts its spirit and
aims to acquaint an increasingly wider audience
with Italian products through the continuous
promotion of “Italianity” that is winning the
respect and trust of Indians: the Vetrina Italiana
‘Made in Italy’ in India organizzato dalla Indo-
Italian Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
Attraverso una serie di eventi quali esposizioni,
seminari, concerti e tavole rotonde, Festa
Italiana si presenta da sempre come
un’eccezionale piattaforma d’incontro tra il
mercato indiano e quello italiano.
Nelle sue prime edizioni Festa Italiana è stata
caratterizzata principalmente dalla promozione
del lifestyle italiano, come la moda, i prodotti
tipici, il cinema e la musica italiana. Settimane
prodotti ‘Made in Italy’ e conoscenze

Shopping Festival will guide Indian customers
looking for stores in Mumbai where one can buy
Italian products. This year also sees the return
of the Impresa Awards, the prize for outstanding
entrepreneurial initiatives that, while
strengthening Indo-Italian economic relations,
stood out for their contribution in areas like
innovation, environment-friendliness, social
responsibility, business excellence and market
presence.
As usual, there will be events dedicated to
tourism and fashion. ENIT (Italian State Tourist
Board) is organising Showcase Italy, a
photographic exhibition on Italy at one of the
biggest malls in the city, Inorbit Mall at Vashi.thFor this 8 edition, the Marangoni Institute is
presenting a seminar on E- Fashion, which will
offer a perspective on how to promote and sell
fashion brands in the new digital context. One
of the outstanding cultural events of Festa
Italiana 2010 is the photographic exhibition
organised in collaboration with the Italian
Embassy, the Consulate General of Italy,
Mumbai and the Italian Institute of Culture, titled
Unescoitalia - 44 World Heritage Sites in Italy in
the Works of 14 Italian Photographers. Through
the pictures of famous Italian photographers,
the exhibition intends to highlight the
architectural and natural wealth that makes our
country unique in the world.
Two special concerts will perfectly frame Festa
Italiana 2010: the Enrico Rava New Quintet
featuring Gianluca Petrella, by the world-
renowned Italian jazz musician Enrico Rava
and Dance, Rhythm, Celebration…Aria Italiana,
a piano recital by Maestro Paolo Vergari, which
will include works from Bach to the
contemporary Italian band Premiata Forneria
Marconi.
quell’ “Italianità” che sta conquistando la stima
e la fiducia indiane: Vetrina - Festival dello
Shopping Italiano guiderà i consumatori indiani
possibile acquistare prodotti italiani.
ENIT (Agenzia
Nazionale per il Turismo) organizza Showcase
Italy, un’esposizione fotografica sull’Italia
presso uno dei più grandi centri commerciali
della città, l’Inorbit Mall di Varshi. L’Istituto
nuovo contesto digitale.
Tra gli eventi culturali in programma per
quest’anno spicca l’esposizione fotografica
titolo Unescoitalia - 44 siti italiani patrimonio
mondiale nell’opera di 14 fotografi. Attraverso
mondo. Due concerti fanno da eccezionale
cornice a Festa Italiana 2010: l’Enrico Rava New
acclamato jazzista italiano Enrico Rava, e La
Danza, l’Aria...la Festa, del Maestro Paolo

internazionale, con brani che spazieranno da

It is a known fact that Italian brands set global trends in fashion, style and creativity and the ‘Made in
Italy’ label is one that brings with it an assurance of quality, design and innovation. It is this very asset
that distinguishes Italian brands around the world and, moreover in India, these brands find a value
addition in highlighting their ‘Italianity’. Thanks to the Vetrina Italiana Shopping Festival 2010, a virtual
cornucopia of these brands will be available at retail outlets across Mumbai. There is a diverse range
on display – from automobiles to luxury boating, clothing to furniture and fixtures, cafes to
delicatessens and restaurants, and even travel planners. And telling consumers what’s available and
where is a special Italian Shopping Guide which will be available at all participating outlets.
e design. In particolare il ‘Made in Italy’ è conosciuto a livello internazionale come sinonimo e

Two of the winners of the Impresa Awards 2008 tell us what the Award means to them and what
makes them seek the recognition this year as well. An interesting account of their experiences and
commitment to the causes they promote while furthering Indo-Italian business collaboration.
Winners of Impresa Awards 2008 Dai vincitori di Impresa Awards 2008
1. In 2008, you received the award
for Social Impact. Which were the
main projects you undertook to
earn this award?
We were given award mainly
because of successfully taking our
factories to rural villages where there
were no employable avenues. This
effectively means that rather than
workers traveling to city for work,
they can now stay back with their
families, as employment is available
in their villages. On one hand this
has improved the living condition of
the workers in the villages and on
the other hand it put less stress on
the city’s infrastructure, as they are
no more traveling to city.
2. Have you implemented any other project
that had a social impact in the last two
years? Or have you focused on other
sectors?
This initiative has taken wings in the last two
years and we now are successfully running 24
units around the city. This has generated a lot of
employment for the women, who otherwise
were locked up in the four walls of their homes.
Garmenting is essentially an activity, which can
use a lot of female workers. This gives
a lot of economic independence to the
women of villages. We have also
successfully started a primary school in
rural Rajasthan and have initiated the
process of setting up an educational
Institution, which inter alia will include
an engineering college, medical
college, vocational training college, etc.
This huge community service project is
the brainchild of our Managing Director
Mr. Anand Buchasia and will
successfully give technical training,
medical training and assistance to the
younger generation in the area. We
hope to initiate the first batch of
student some time in the mid 2011.
This initiative is with totally non profit motive.
Deserving and suitable students will be
awarded bursaries.
3. 2009 was the year of the global economic
slowdown. What strategies did your
company adopt to overcome it while still
registering growth and focusing on issues
like social impact, environment and
innovation?
Very much so 2009 was a year of Global
economic slowdown and in this slowdown we

found an opportunity. We consolidated our
position as market leaders and made forays
into un-ventured areas. Due to the slowdown
everybody was looking at cutting cost, which
meant that people were looking for cheaper
production alternatives to the more expensive
options of the geographically closer East
Europe and North Africa. We positioned
ourselves as an alternative to these production
sites matching their quality in terms of stitching
and services. This virtually opened floodgates
of opportunities for us. Today we are producing
for European companies such as Strabag
Volvo, Renault and Scania etc. More specific to
the Italian Market our partners in Torino Italy are
now official workwear suppliers to the Fiat
Group. We have also done lot in terms of
innovation. We developed an EN-471 certified
high visibility red fabric, that no one else had
been able to develop. With these innovations
and pragmatic approach to our business we
were able to maintain positive growth in the
financial year 2008-09 against the backdrop of
severest economic slowdown and in this year
we have been able to achieve the growth of
around 40% over last year. We also created a
unique slogan of ‘European Quality at Indian
Prices’. We did not position ourselves against
cheap Chinese production. We benchmarked
ourselves as the alternate to the European
Production. We also augmented our technical
capabilities, by installing a state-of-art
laboratory for fabric testing and atomized our
cutting department with new state-of-art
machine incidentally from Italy.
4. What was your impression of the Impresa
Awards 2008? What has made you send in
your entry for the 2010 edition?
The Impresa Awards recognised our efforts and
is one of the most satisfying awards
acknowledging our contribution to the society,
which is a cause very dear to our Managing
Director Mr. Anand Buchasia.
This recognition encouraged us to apply for this
year’s Impresa Awards.
5. What is your message to Industry for the
year 2010?
We urge industry to look at this or any downturn
for that matter, as an opportunity and seek
means and ways to consolidate their
organization. We strongly believe in the latent
potentiality of this huge country. It is for the
entrepreneurs to sense the opportunities and
find means and ways to tap them. This will in
turn generate huge employment.
1. Nel 2008 siete stati premiati per la categoria
‘Responsabilità Sociale d’Impresa’. Quali
persone.
Intervista con Mr. Anil Buchasia,
Direttore Marketing di Amrit Exports
(P) Ltd.
formazioni in campo tecnico e medico, insieme
studenti a metà 2011. Il progetto è
assolutamente non ha scopo di lucro. Gli
studenti meritevoli saranno aiutati attraverso
l’erogazione di borse di studio.
3. Il 2009 è stato l’anno della recessione
globale. Quali strategie avete adotatto per
superarla, registrando buoni tassi di crescita e
continuando a concentrarvi su tematiche quali
la responsabilità sociale d’impresa, il rispetto
ambientale e l’innovazione?
Abbiamo cercato di guardare alla recessione
come ad un’opportunità, consolidando la nostra
posizione di leader di mercato ed
intraprendendo strade inesplorate prima. A
troppo costose. Questa mossa ci ha spalancato
molte porte e nuove opportunità. Oggi stiamo
producendo per grandi compagnie europee
come Strabag, Volvo, Renault e Scania. Nello
Ci siamo dedicati anche all’innovazione,
creando un tessuto catarifrangente, con
certificazione EN-471, che nessuno era riuscito
a produrre in precedenza. Con queste
innovazioni ed un approccio pragmatico siamo
stati capaci di mantenere una crescita positiva
nell’anno finanziario 2008-09, e quest’anno
Europea a Prezzi Indiani”.
Ci
siamo inoltre concentrati molto sull’aumentare

Festa Italiana 8th edition
1. In 2008, you received the award
for Environment. Which were the
main projects you undertook to
earn this award?
Our commitment to environment
goes prior to year 2008. We
introduced a novel concept of
producing cotton yarn and fabrics
organically. Organic cotton is grown
without the use of artificial pesticides
and chemicals. The cotton is brought
into the mill and the organic yarn is
spun out of it and stored separately.
The fabric knit from the yarn is also
stored separately and is sold to
knitters to produce organic, bio-
friendly garments. The garmenting process also
uses organic dyes. An independent agency,
bio.inspecta ag, Switzerland, conducts an
annual audit of our environment-friendly
practices and certifies that we are producing
products according to EEC regulation 2092/91
In 2008 we implemented a Compressed Air
Management Programme, which was expected
to result in power savings of about 20% in our
air compressors. By the third quarter of 2009,
we had achieved power savings of 38%. This is
expected to yield a reduction of 691 metric
tones of carbon emission annually.
We were awarded the Silver Trophy
from the Ministry of Power,
Government of India in appreciation
of our achievements in energy
conservation, in the Textiles Sector,
for the year 2009.
2. Have you implemented any
projects regarding the environment
sector in the last two years? Or
have you focused on other
sectors?
Though we are satisfied with our
environment-friendly measures, in
the last two years, we also laid out
thrust on the social human factor. We regularly
undertake social audit of our organization and
have obtained SA-8000 certification from Rina
SPA, Italy. We are also following a zero-
tolerance policy regarding child labour and
discrimination in any form. Utmost importance
is given to the health and safety of our workers,
freedom of association, fair working hours and
a satisfactory compensation package.
Our company disburses “basic need wages”

imprenditoriale per il 2010?
Vorremmo esortare imprese ed imprenditori a
guardare a questo e a qualsiasi altro momento
di recessione, come ad un’opportunità di
ricercare nuove metodologie e strade per
consolidare le nostre organizzazioni. Noi
crediamo fortemente nel potenziale latente di
questo immenso Paese che è l’India. Sta agli
imprenditori intuire le opportunià offerte e

wages mandated by the Government.
3. 2009 was the year of the global economic
slowdown. What strategies did your
company adopt to overcome it while still
registering growth and focusing on issues
like social impact, environment and
innovation?
Italy happens to be our main textile market. We
have always enjoyed the respect and loyalty of
our Italian customers. Although our exports to
Italy plummeted from 286.96 million Rupees in
the financial year 2007-08 to 185 million
Rupees in the financial year 2008-09 due to the
global slowdown, yet we did not compromise on
issues such as social accountability,
environment and innovation. What helped us
get through the rough times was our exploring
the vibrant domestic textile market and
diversifying into local sales.
4. What was your impression of the Impresa
Awards 2008? What has made you send in
your entry for the 2010 edition?
As already informed, Italy is our main textile
market. We work in close synchronization with
our customers in Italy, ever innovating products
suiting their changing demands. The loyalty of
our Italian customers helps us in embarking on
changes seamlessly. By being awarded the
Impresa Awards 2008, we have been able to
reassure our Italian buyers that we value
enterprise, which is held in esteem by all in
Italy, close to our hearts. We have reapplied for
the Impresa Awards 2010 and winning the
award again will enhance our Italian customers’
confidence in us.
5. What is your message to Industry for the
year 2010?
Maintain quality consistency, innovate and be
1. Nel 2008 siete stati premiati per la categoria
‘rispetto ambientale’.
organico viene coltivato senza utilizzare
pesticidi o sostanze chimiche artificiali, viene
poi portato in fabbrica dove è trasformato in
filato organico ed immagazzinato
separatamente. Anche la stoffa tessuta col filato
è immagazzinata separatamente ed è poi
venduta ai magliai per la produzione di
indumenti biologici ed ecologici. Anche durante
la produzione degli indumenti si utilizzano
solo tinture organiche. Un’agenzia
indipendente, la bio.inspecta ag, in Svizzera,
effettua una verifica annuale delle nostre
procedure ecologiche e certifica che i nostri
articoli siano prodotti in accordo alla normativa
CEE 2092/91.
38% circa. Questo dovrebbe tradursi in una
riduzione dell’emissione annuale di carbonio
pari a 691 tonnellate metriche.

3. Il 2009 è stato l’anno della recessione
globale. Quali strategie avete adotatto per
superarla, registrando buoni tassi di crescita e
continuando a concentrarvi su tematiche quali
la responsabilità sociale d’impresa, il rispetto
ambientale e l’innovazione?
L’Italia rappresenta il nostro mercato tessile
principale. Abbiamo sempre goduto del rispetto
e della fedeltà dei nostri clienti italiani. Sebbene
durante l’anno finanziario 2008-2009 le nostre
esportazioni in Italia siano crollate a causa del
rallentamento economico globale, passando dai
4.4 milioni di Euro nell’anno 2007-2008 ai 2.8
milioni del 2008-2009, non abbiamo voluto
rinunciare al nostro impegno in relazione a
tematiche importanti quali la responsabilità
sociale, l’ambiente e l’innovazione. Quello che
ci ha aiutato a superare i tempi difficili è stata
l’esplorazione del vivace mercato tessile
nazionale e la diversificazione nelle vendite
locali
4. Quali sono state le sue impressioni su
Impresa Awards 2008? Cosa l’ha spinta a
partecipare ancora?
Come ho già detto, l’Italia rappresenta il nostro
mercato tessile principale. Noi lavoriamo in
stretta sincronia con i nostri clienti in Italia,
rinnovando costantemente i nostri prodotti in
intraprendere continui cambiamenti. Grazie
all’ottenimento del Impresa Awards 2008,
Italia, ci stanno davvero a cuore. Ci siamo
dunque candidati nuovamente per il Impresa
Awards 2010, perché vincere un premio può
sempre contribuire ad incrementare la fiducia
che i nostri clienti italiani ripongono in noi e
nelle nostre procedure.
5. Quale messaggio volete lasciare al mondo
imprenditoriale per il 2010?
Mantenere gli standard di qualità, innovare ed
essere dinamici nella progettazione dei
prodotti in modo da poter reagire con
prontezza ai cambiamenti che possono
verificarsi nel mercato target. E soprattutto,
impegnarsi in una filosofia aziendale che
consideri l’ambiente e le responsabilità sociali.

Showcase Italy
L’Italia in mostra
ENIT - Italian State Tourist Board
ecent market research among tour operators shows that 2010 will be a bright year for the Indian
outbound sector, with booking peaking in March, coinciding exactly with Festa Italiana 2010.RENIT in collaboration with ITOCI (Indian Tour Operators Council for Italy, see box) will organise
Showcase Italy as part of Festa Italiana, an exhibition of 21 boards, with photos of Italy. The venue is
one of Mumbai’s biggest shopping malls – Inorbit Mall in Vashi.
The occasion will give ITOCI the chance to introduce itself to the Indian public for the first time, with
the presence of its members and its logo among the photos of the exhibition.
Showcase Italy aims to be a special event in Italian tourist promotion, different from the traditional way
of promoting Italy. The exhibition will capture Italy through photos, with quotes by famous
personalities as captions, that are rich, bright and broad, and which aims to re-create the typical Italian
atmosphere and hospitality that never fails to fascinate travellers.
The objective is to motivate new travelers to visit Italy, through visual involvement, by evoking curiosity
and a willingness to discover the country. Inorbit Mall is an unusual venue for a photo exhibition and
for the promotion of Italy as a tourist destination. But the last trends show that shopping malls are
increasingly becoming the preferred benchmark for the middle-upper class, who represent the best
customer for the tourism Industry.

ITOCI – Indian Tour Operators Council for ItalyITOCI – Consiglio dei Tour Operator Indiani per l’Italia
18 May 2009 was a milestone in the promotion of Italy in India as it was on this date that Osservatorio ENIT
brought together the main players in the Indian tourism industry, otherwise competing with each other, to set up
ITOCI – Indian Tour Operators Council for Italy. With ENIT as founder and permanent member, ITOCI is a no-profit organisation comprising some of India’s
largest tour operators who have Italy as their main destination. Members include the CEO of Cox & Kings (India)
Pvt Ltd, Ezeego1 Tours & Travels, Kesari Tours, Kuoni Travel Group India, Mercury Travels Ltd and Thomas
Cook (India) Ltd.ITOCI’s main objective is to increase the visibility of Italy in India, to explore together new marketing strategies
for a target country that is in constant evolution and change, and to train the Indian tourism industry to diversify
its Italian tourist offers. For its members, ITOCI aims to be the perfect platform where public and private initiatives meet, to articulate a
common marketing strategy with respect to the strategic marketing and promotional diversities that each tour
operator will adopt to increase its impact on the community. For the consumer, the name ITOCI will represent a symbol of guarantee of all the operators who are a part of it.
Kuoni Travel Group India, Mercury Travels Ltd.e Thomas Cook (India) Limited.

Istituto Marangoni Desk
Istituto Marangoni set up its Information Desk at the Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce & Industry in Mumbai
in November 2005. The institute aims to promote fashion and design talent among students through alliances
with leading fashion institutes in India. Through its Desk at the Chamber, the institute organises workshops,
seminars and other activities to discover Indian talent and provide an opportunity for them to study further at
one of the best schools of design in Europe.
The structure of the courses includes the development of a number of ‘external projects’ carried out in
collaboration with companies throughout the academic year. This offers the student the chance to work on a
highly professional activity in direct contact with the working world; for the institute to evaluate what students
have learnt from the practical and theoretical classes; and companies are offered a privileged channel to get in
touch with and select the best ideas and talents in the school.
