AN EASTER MOMENTA funeral cortege headed toward the cemetery. This scene happens
thousands of times every day throughout the world. In the Gospel passage this Sunday, ittook place in the Galilean village of Naim, but with an astonishing reversal of what we wouldnormally anticipate.
The paths of two huge crowds crossed: one accompanied Jesus whohad just brought the Good News to the villagers of Naim, and the other accompanied themother of a young man Wh0had just died. Luke tells us that he was an only son and that hismother was a widow.
As Luke writes, Jesus was overcome with pity for the mother of this young man.Death and life would intersect when the paths of these two sons crossed on that road. Jesus,the Beloved Son, cheated death, brought the young man back to life, and gave him to hismother. Jesus' compassion provides us with a glimmer of an Easter dawn whose light wouldsoon burst forth. We celebrate the Resurrection Whenthe Son of God rose from the dead andbecame God's Eternal Gift to us.

Mais voilil que..Jesus,designe par luc comme le Seigneur, est saisLdepitH!pour la mere du jeune nomme. La mort et la vie vont se rencomrer a travers Ies .deuxfiIsuniquesqui se croisent sur la route. Jesus, le fils bien-airne, fera jaillir la vie en relevant lejeune homme de la moirt pour le redonner a sa mere. Dans la compassion.de Jesus, on voitdeja poindre une premiere lueur de paques. La lumiere jaillira au jOur de la resurrectionpuisqu'en relevant de la mort son Rls unique, Dieu fera don a rhurnarUtede I'eternel Vivant.
