What are the highlight achievements during the last six months? (cont’d)

Total number of counties in universe: 3233 Total number of counties for which GIS files

are in house: 1038 Total local files Tested: 777 Counties

390 Pass at CE95 of 7.60 meters or less

387 Fail at CE95 7.61 meters or greater

Page 12: FGDC Session

2003 NSGIC Annual Conference September 15-18, 2003 Nashville, Tennessee

What are the milestone achievements for the next six months?

Provide Harris with 350 local county files for MTAIP production in FY 04

Harris will align 250 additional counties using commercial GIS or field GPS centerline data collection methods

Identify all potential GIS files (tribal areas, partial counties, cities, towns, MCDs) that meet the 7.6 meter accuracy requirement that may be used for MTAIP

Begin defining requirements for expanded Web capabilities

Page 13: FGDC Session

2003 NSGIC Annual Conference September 15-18, 2003 Nashville, Tennessee

How does this program coordinate / interact with other Federal programs?

• Census will provide USGS the corrected TIGER road centerline files to incorporate into the National Map

• Census already has provided the TED to the USGS and NIMA. A new extract will be provided to USGS, NIMA, and NOAA.

• The Harris fiscal year 2004 production schedule will be available through the FGDC website

Page 14: FGDC Session

2003 NSGIC Annual Conference September 15-18, 2003 Nashville, Tennessee

What is the role of states in Census programs?

Inform the Census Bureau of what data exist or will exist for their state

Provide information on how Census work and schedules can fit with state initiatives

Review the TED and inform Census of errors and irregularities in the data reported

Review and provide comments on Census documents and plans that impact the states

Page 15: FGDC Session

2003 NSGIC Annual Conference September 15-18, 2003 Nashville, Tennessee

How can states benefit from your program?

States can inform Census of counties where no suitable spatial data exist and there are no plans to create road centerlines—Harris can plan to create an accurate road centerline without concern of overlap or duplication

Map Mod Goals for interacting with States on data activities: States are only contacted once for specific databases Federal agencies that collect State and local data will

publish metatdata on the clearinghouse/GOS if it is not already published.

States are informed of data collection activities and determine what their role should be. (In Map Mod, this could be their part of the state plan.

Page 42: FGDC Session

2003 NSGIC Annual Conference September 15-18, 2003 Nashville, Tennessee

What is the role of states in your program?

Partnerships with State/Local government to:– Enable State and Local government to manage their flood

hazard data Data Coordination / Collection

– State geospatial staff should coordinate with NFIP Coordinator on State Plans

– Coordinate/standardize local data if able– Base data (DOQ, Streets, Hydrography, Boundaries)– Elevation Data

Data Services
