CPRIIPVZW1-15 1RU CPRI Interface Panel with 15M Fiber Kit

The 1RU CPRI Interface Panel provides a non-service affecting monitor port for which a CPRI Protocol Analyzer can be used to decode the TX data stream from a CDIU, Remote Radio Head (RRH) and/or an Active Antenna’s Transmit CPRI link. This panel provides test access for up to (6) active CPRI Links. All CPRI IPs use passive fiber optic couplers that are non-band specific, and can therefore be used for either High Band or Low Band connections.

The tray slides out and locks in two positions. The first is for monitoring the CPRI links, the second is for installing live fibers. Included fiber jumpers are routed from the Baseband Unit (BBU) into the right side of the panel (labeled BBU). The fiber jumpers that originated from the Remote Radio Head (RRH) are then terminated on the left side of the panel (labeled RRH). Each duplex adapter is color coded and labeled to verify correct links.

1RU CPRI IP

FIS CPRI Interface Panels provide an easily accessible, non-service affecting monitor port to access the Uplink and Downlink data from a CPRI link. Certain interface panel models incorporate cable storage and management, high density monitoring capacity, and scalable modules.

All units use High Grade CWDM splitters to maintain the best performance across the entire spectrum of optical 1260nm-1620nm wavelengths. Find additional information for each model at www.fiberinstrumentsales.com/cpri.

Question: What is CPRI?Answer: Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) is the protocol used to interface with the Uplink and Downlink data between active cell site equipment.

Question: Why is a CPRI Interface Panel used?Answer: As cellular networks move towards the use of Remote Radio Heads (RRH), fiber optic cables are creating the connection between the Remote Radio Head and the Base Band Unit (BBU). Testing this fiber optic CPRI link is increasingly becoming a crucial tool for maintaining and troubleshooting the network. A CPRI Interface Panel allows for passive, non-service affecting access to this CPRI link.

Question: How does the CPRI Interface Panel function?Answer: The panel uses a singlemode fiber optic splitter to route half of the optical signal between the active equipment and half of the optical signal to the monitor ports.

Question: What is the typical Insertion Loss per port?

Answer: The 50/50 optical splitter creates a -3.8 dB insertion loss per link.

Question: What optical wavelengths do the 50/50 splitters work with?Answer: Fiber Instrument Sales uses optical splitters that have full pass-through of all 18 CWDM lambdas.

Question: What is the Coupler Ratio (C.R.) of the fiber optic splitter?Answer: Each splitter uses a 50/50 ratio to split the signal evenly between active equipment and monitor ports.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: What style of fiber optic connectors is used with the CPRI Interface Panel?Answer: Every CPRI Interface Panel uses duplex, LC connectors with an Ultra Physical Contact (UPC) polish.

Question: Are fiber jumpers included, and at what length?Answer: Quantity (6) Duplex, LC/UPC fiber cables are included with the 1RU, 2RU, and Mini CPRI panels. These cable kits can be ordered in 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 10, or 15 meter lengths. Color coded connector boots are used to pair each fiber jumper to the CPRI panel’s matching adapter. Be sure to read part number descriptions for included patch cables, lengths ranging from 1 meter to 15 meters. Patch cable kits for the 3RU, 4RU and Wallmount unit are available for order separately.

800–5000–FIS(347) › Outside the US: 1–315–736–2206

15

Question: Are the fibers Single Mode or Multi Mode?Answer: All internal couplers and the included fiber jumpers use Single Mode fiber.

Question: Do the fiber jumpers need to be cleaned before using?Answer: All fiber jumpers are cleaned and tested to IEC 61300-3-35 standards. However, ferrule protective caps are not completely sterile from contaminants. Before connecting fiber jumpers it is highly recommended that the ferrules be cleaned again using fiber optic cleaning tools.

Question: What is the warranty period for each CPRI Interface Panel?Answer: Fiber Instrument Sales provides a 5 year warranty free of manufacturer defects. Please contact FIS for a replacement panel if basic troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue.

Question: Do these CPRI Interface Panels fit into 19” or 23” racks?Answer: Nearly all CPRI Interface Panels are designed to work with either 19” or 23” standing, open racks. All necessary mounting hardware is included with each unit. The 3RU CPRI Interface Panel can only be installed within a 23” rack.

Question: Do these CPRI Interface Panels require power to function?Answer: No, power is not required. The panels use passive fiber optic couplers to split the CPRI data link.

Question: The CPRI Interface Panel is not functioning correctly, what can I do to troubleshoot the panel?Answer: 1) The CPRI Interface Panel uses fiber optic connections that can be easily and unintentionally contaminated without special handling. This contamination of the connector can cause severe attenuation within the CPRI link. Re-clean the fiber optic jumper cables that are connected to the CPRI panel using proper fiber optic cleaning tools and methods. The bulk head adapters on the CPRI panel can also be cleaned using special bulk head cleaners.

2) The CPRI Interface Panel is passive, and does not require adjustments. Depending on other optical interconnects and cables on site, polarity can often be flipped and result in lack of signal strength at monitor ports to effectively operate a CPRI protocol analyzer. You can verify continuity in the CPRI module by using an inexpensive visual fault locator (VFL). Plug into RRH Tx port and power the VFL on (do not look directly into the port at red laser light, but carefully recognize continuity of the visual red light). The corresponding continuing BBU link and uplink test access port will illuminate to show correct polarity. The included fiber cable assemblies feature switchable duplex LC connectors. The housing can easily be removed for LC connector configuration and can be swapped to rearrange polarity. Re-check that link is operational.

3) Contact FIS and Ubeity for additional technical support and to arrange on-site assistance.

FIS offers specialty cable assemblies for unique wireless industry environments where small animals gnaw on cable jackets and interrupt data links from RRHs. These singlemode duplex LC network link cables feature stainless steel armoring under PVC jacketing. This material has proven to be over 90% effective in preventing small animals, such as squirrels, from destroying cables in the field. The jacketed cable carries an outside plant rating with water blocking technology to provide reliable service in changing climates of different wireless regions. The cable assembly features a Compact RRH compatible connector. This provides easy implementation in the field and offers a weatherproof interlocking seal to protect RRH active electronics from the elements. An additional weather seal grommet assembly is included on opposite end of the assembly for installation in most base station enclosures.

FIS Visual Fault Locators and Attenuators

FIS Pocket Visual Fault LocatorFault Locators are a special class of light sources that emit a high intensity visible Red Laser into a patch cord or cable. This light can be used to both check the continuity of a fiber and identify the fiber’s far end, or it can be used to visually identify the location of a fiber break.

Most Fault Locators come optimized for Singlemode fiber use; however they work equally as well with Multimode fiber.

FIS Fiber Optic AttenuatorsWhen choosing one style of fiber optic attenuator over another, consider attenuation range and wavelength range of the attenuator, as well as resolution and any polarization dependent loss (PDL) requirements. FIS Male to Female attenuators use singlemode fiber to strengthen the fiber optic signal. High-precision doping technology is used for low back reflection and increased fiber signal accuracy. These are ideal for use in CATV, LAN, WAN, and telecommunications applications.
