Flu Vaccination Programme Pharmacy Integration Antibiotics Awareness

European Antibiotic Awareness Day (EAAD) is a Europe-wide campaign held each year on 18 November. EAAD also forms part of World Antibiotic Awareness Week. In Scotland, EAAD hopes to raise awareness amongst health and care staff, patients and the public about the need to use antibiotics more wisely to stop antimicrobial resistance. Due to the pandemic, this year will be more low key and encourages us to Get a GRIP (guidelines, review, IV to oral, personalise) on antibiotics with questions for patients to help them engage in discussions about their antibiotic treatment. Update on Serial Prescribing A focus on Serial Prescribing in collaboration with GP practices,

community pharmacies and practice pharmacy teams is underway in Fife. We’re aiming to achieve the ambitious target of 20% of repeat

prescribing being serial prescriptions by March 2021, increasing to 40%

by March 2022. This level of serial prescribing has been shown to have significant workload benefits for both GP practices and community

pharmacies and is more convenient for patients to order their repeat prescriptions.

As a kick-start to the campaign we’ve held two Serial Prescribing

workshops via Microsoft teams where we shared ideas and held discussions with community pharmacy, GP practice and practice

pharmacy teams within clusters, on how best to implement the

project. The workshops were very well attended and feedback so far has been really positive!

More information on the campaign can be found on the SHOW

website here (https://www.communitypharmacy.scot.nhs.uk/nhs-boards/nhs-fife/mcrserial-prescribing/). There are also new patient

leaflets available (see right). For a supply please contact me at [email protected].

Pharmacy Flu Vaccination Programme Over 13344 patients have received their NHS Flu vaccination in a Community Pharmacy in Fife so far. A big Thank you to everyone for your help in providing this valuable service. Letters for the under 65 age group have now been distributed. These patients will be directed to NHS inform for further information on how to arrange their vaccination. Please try to encourage any under 65 patients to engage with these instructions. However, if patients are refusing to do this and you have capacity to arrange the vaccination within the pharmacy, you can do so. Please continue to encourage the original cohort of patients - the "Care at home" staff, to take up the offer of a vaccination within the pharmacy - we have vaccinated 979 of these staff so far. Our target s 2435 so we’re getting there!

Stock Update Central stock holdings within the board have reached the end of vaccine supplies for the over 65 group. All further community pharmacy allocations from National Procurement have been withdrawn. If you have ordered and used all your original flu vaccination allocation but still have over 65 appointments booked, please contact Hazel Close ([email protected]). Alternatively, if you have NHS aTIV in your pharmacy that you are not planning on using, please also let Hazel know so it can be picked up for use in the Cluster/Hub clinics.

Your Health and Well-being Matters - support for you during the pandemic Many things have changed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, and staff wellbeing is now more important than ever as we prepare for the second wave of the pandemic and its impact on services. Scotland's National Wellbeing Hub - www.promis.scot offers advice and support for health and social services staff, wherever they work, to cope with the psychological challenges such as anxiety, fatigue and poor sleep. Within the Hub there are lots of information, resources and activities to promote positive wellbeing and provide practical advice and tips on how to look after yourself.

Social and Healthcare staff are invited to take part in a web session to learn more about resources on the Hub especially

an App programme called Feeling Good, which focuses on building personal resilience to cope with stress, anxiety, low mood. Sessions will be held online on 02 December from 3pm - 4pm and again at 7pm - 8pm. The sessions are run by Dr Alastair Dobbin and Sheila Ross who developed the Feeling Good app. If you would like to attend a session, please click the relevant links below: 02 December 2020 - 3pm: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/health-and-social-care-support-scotland-with-the-feeling-good-app-tickets-127169139319 02 December 2020 - 7pm: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/health-and-social-care-support-scotland-with-the-free-feeling-good-app-tickets-127166667927

Clean all touch points frequently e.g. tills, door handles, phones, keyboards etc.

Any returned medicines/stock must be bagged and quarantined for 72 hours (minimum).

To maintain pharmaceutical services, and to support both patient and staff safety, an effective business continuity plan is essential, ideally with a 'Buddy' pharmacy agreed and vulnerable patient list etc.

Awareness raising and training must be in place with records/logs maintained when this has been completed, e.g. how to put on remove PPE, hand hygiene protocols and social distancing etc.

it is important the whole pharmacy team are aware of these points, please share them with everyone. Following this advice will help to assure Public Health, Health Protection Scotland and Environmental Health colleagues that we can contain the virus, keep pharmacies operating and maintain essential continuity of service for patients. Community Pharmacy Scotland have produced a very useful area on their website for Winter and COVID Planning, please follow the link - https://www.cps.scot/winter-ready-hub/.

Community Pharmacy and Coronavirus Safety Maintaining pharmacy operation during COVID outbreaks Covid and outbreaks are becoming more commonplace. Here are some key points and valuable experience gained from recent incidents: Risk assess your environment and procedures regularly. All staff and patients should wear appropriate PPE

wherever possible. Ideally, you should not remove your mask or face shield until you are outside the premises.

2m distancing should be maintained wherever possible and ensure you are promoting hand hygiene, making hand sanitiser available for all staff and patients.

Perspex/protective screens area essential and should now be used as standard.

A daily symptom check before each staff member starts work and reminder to staff that they should not come into work if they displaying any covid symptoms .

Staff should be reminded to minimise 'social' contact outside work; including not car sharing.

Break times should include only one staff member at any

one time, unless strict 2m distancing can take place or there are separate areas for breaks. Do not share food/snacks or leave in shared areas or work surfaces. Staff are also reminded to clean down surfaces and equipment such as kettles etc , with antibacterial cleaning materials after

Cleaning logs and hygiene are crucial through-out the premises in addition to the dispensary, as well as 'front shop' and shared spaces e.g. staff room, toilets etc.
