SCHEDULE SUBJECT TO CHANGE

GOD WANTS TO BE KNOWN

The Old Testament reading from Deuteronomy praises God for inscribing the commandments in our very bodies. God’s law is not distant or foreign, but a natural part of us. In his letter to the Colossians, Saint Paul echoes Moses, praising God for becoming one of us. The truly human, flesh-and-blood Jesus reminds us that God always wants to be recognizable and familiar to us. Jesus, who is also truly God, wants to be on intimate terms with each of us.

God’s passionate desire to be known by us is almost too wonderful to take in. Luke’s Gospel helps us understand how to respond. The Good Samaritan parable provides practical advice for those who believe in God’s intimate love for them and want to share that love with others.

To all the people of Our Lady of the Snows,

It’s July, and to be honest things are NOT slowing down here: and that is GREAT!

There are Youth and Young Adult activities through-out the summer, so get involved. Virginia Loza-Lee spoke at all the masses several weeks ago about Youth Ministry. It is a ministry that involves ALL. We have such a great gift as Catholics in our way of Jesus Christ. I would hope that all of us would want our children and young persons to experience the freedom that comes from living with Christ. Share the faith!

BIG thanks to Brucie Ingram who decorated and organized the VBS! It looked amazing! Thanks to all those who helped in this, especially those younger persons who gave assistance.

BTW, that was one fast year!

Your Pastor Fr. Bob Chorey

BAPTISM SHAWLS NEEDED

Our OLS community presents a shawl to the infants or small children when they are baptized here. Mostly, these have been made by the SWA Knit & Crochet group and/or the OLS Arts & Crafts group. But we are now running

very low on shawls, and our baptism numbers are growing; so we do need help keeping up! We would be very appreciative of any shawls suitable for a baby’s baptism: approximately 30” x 30” and the color must be pure white. Please bring them to the church office. Questions: Call Pat at 786-5066. THANK YOU!

ATTENTION EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS (EMs) AND SACRISTANS:

The procedure for EM’s to come forward during the Mass will be changed in August. The goal is to have a more aesthetic liturgy and efficient movement. To accomplish this we need to have some practices. We have scheduled a practice Saturday, July 20 after the 5:00 pm Mass and Sunday, July 21 after the 11:30 Mass, July 28 after the 7:30, 9:30 and 5:00 pm Mass. Please make every effort to attend one of the practices. If you can’t make the one after the Mass you usually attend, please attend one of the practices after another Mass. Sacristans, it will especially be important that you know what’s happening. God Bless you all, thank you for being such faithful ministers to all of us. Terry Norman, Eucharistic Minister Coordinator

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION FOR PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS CRE (Catholic Religious Education, which you may have known as Catechism or CCD or Faith Formation) is our program for educating young Catholics who attend public schools. We offer kindergarten through 8th grade on Sunday mornings (10:45-Noon) and Wednesday afternoons (3:45-4:45). Home study is also an option. There is no longer CRE on Tuesday afternoons. Little Church - for those potty-trained, at least 3 years old but not yet in kindergarten, is offered during 9:30 Mass. This is not babysitting, but teaching the children about Jesus at their own level. Registration will be held the weekend of August 24-25 after all Masses.

The registration forms will be put on the website around September 1st for those who cannot get to Mass on August 24 or 25. Cost is $75 per child. Classroom size is limited. Sunday class begins on September 8. Wednesday class begins on September 18.

Sacraments Confirmation is a two-year process for those attending public schools. They may begin in 9th grade (or older). Manogue students have a one-year process, attending Confirmation beginning in 10th grade and older. Confirmation, like other sacraments, is offered through the parish, not the Catholic school. Children needing 1st Reconciliation and 1st Communion attend either our Catholic school or CRE program as their initial preparation for sacraments. Their preparation is a two-year process as mandated by the diocese. Children 3rd grade and older needing Baptism note this on their CRE registration form or school registration form. Parents will be contacted by the religious education office with information about our baptism program for older children.

It is important that children continue to attend CRE throughout their school years – not just to “get sacraments.” They not only learn about Jesus and Church teaching, but they have discussions with other children whose parents share values similar to those of their own parents. Pope Francis talks and writes about “Encountering” God, and CRE helps the children learn how to see Him, hear Him, and love Him. It also helps them understand that we Encounter Jesus in the sacraments, at Mass, and in Scripture, as well as in people, pets, and nature.
