Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes Isaiah 61:9-11 Ephesians1:3-6, 11-12

John 2:1-11

Father Gary Writes

The 9am Mass on Thursday, February 8th is transferred to 11am.

We welcome our Bishop, Gregory Parkes, to our parish family, to confirm a wonderful group of young people in their faith. It is always a joy and privilege to have our Bishop with us. We also welcome our founding pastor, Monsignor William DuBois. I only discovered a few days ago, that Monsignor DuBois is celebrating his seventieth anniversary as a priest, what a milestone! This obviously means he founded our parish just ten years after he was ordained. We give thanks that he had the vision, enthusiasm and commitment to do so. He is with us to celebrate, with our Bishop, the Diamond Jubilee of our parish, our sixtieth anniversary. Thank you Monsignor William DuBois! We love you!

We are quickly heading toward Lent (Ash Wednesday is February 14

th). But before we are marked with ashes, and remove our sack

cloth from the closet, we have the opportunity to celebrate at the ‘Saints and Sinners Mardi Gras Ball’ - Diamonds Are Forever - a theme chosen to coincide with our Diamond Jubilee. If you have never been to this star-studded occasion, I can assure you it is worth every dollar. You can secure your place at table by booking online: www.ourladydunedin.org or at the Parish Office. You can decide on arrival as to whether or not you are going to be a saint or a sinner, or a mixture of both! I received a T-Shirt a few years ago with the words: “I came a saint, and left a sinner!” 50/50 tickets are available at the main entrances of the church, you could be the lucky winner of a few thousand dollars! All ticket stubs must be returned to the parish office by Friday, February 9

th. All proceeds from this event

benefit our school.

It is very appropriate in our Jubilee Year, that our Parish Feast Day (Our Lady of Lourdes) falls on a Sunday, (February 11

th). The

readings will be in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and not the prescribed Sunday readings. At the end of the Vigil Mass, and Sunday morning Masses, we will pray a decade of the rosary. After the 9:30 Mass a free continental breakfast will be served in the Cafeteria. After the Sunday evening Mass, we will follow the nightly tradition in Lourdes with a Candlelight Procession and the praying of the rosary. This will be followed by wine and pizza in the School Cafeteria. It has always been a privilege and a joy to go to Lourdes, and I am looking forward to leading our parish pilgrimage this June. A few years ago, I took a group of young people from the parish to work in Lourdes, escorting the sick from the trains (many of whom were on stretchers), and directing the Candlelight Procession. Ten years ago, in celebration of our Golden Jubilee (and the hundredth anniversary of the apparitions in Lourdes), I also led a pilgrimage from this parish. There is no doubt that Lourdes is a very special place, a beautiful place to encounter the loving and healing presence of Christ, through the intercession and prayer of Mary, his Mother and ours. When we travel there this summer, we will take your prayer intentions and place them at the Grotto. As we draw closer to June, we will give you further details.

OUR LADY OF LOURDES FEAST DAY CELEBRATIONS

Annual Healing Mass with Anointing Thursday, February 8 at 11:00am All parishioners are invited to the Annual Healing Mass with Anointing. A special welcome is extend-ed to homebound parishioners and those who are elderly, living in retirement homes, ALF’s, and nursing homes. Note: The 9:00am daily Mass this day has been transferred to 11:00am.

Mass, Procession, Rosary, Receptions Sunday, February 11 At the end of each Mass, before the final blessing, a decade of the rosary will be prayed. Join us after the 9:30am Mass for a light continental breakfast in the school hall. There will be a candlelight procession after the 5pm Mass, followed by pizza and wine in the school hall.

Come and celebrate our Parish Feast Day! We place ourselves under Mary’s protection and love. Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us!

OUR LADY OF LOURDES TRAVELING CHALICE Sign up before and after all Masses

this weekend in the Narthex The purpose of the Traveling Chalice is to encourage families to pray for and promote Vocations to Religious Life. Praying for vocations is the most powerful way to support vocations. A

vocation is a call from the Holy Spirit, a gift from God, that is nurtured in prayer. When we pray for vocations, we lift up to our Father those men and women whom he is calling to follow him in a very special way. We hope that those who bring the Chalice home will continue to pray daily for vocations. For more information, contact Pam Popson at (727) 787-1249.

A COMMUNITY OF FAITH, KNOWLEDGE AND SERVICE

Our EC3 class has been very hard at work learning new and exciting things every day! We are currently focusing on a unit about the season of winter. This unit has allowed students to use their creativity, senses, critical thinking, and fine motor and gross motor skills.

To begin our winter unit, the students were assigned an at-home project to complete and return. The students were given a blank snow globe to decorate however they pleased. The students’ creativity was very impressive. They used all types of materials they found around their home to create beautiful snow globes. The students also had the opportunity to present their snow globes to the class and use their describing words to tell about their globe. The globes were a great start to our winter unit.

Also, our winter unit allowed students to engage in a variety of literature, use math and science skills, and help strengthen motor skills. Regarding literature, the students listened to many winter stories and poetry, and participated in a variety of finger plays and winter songs that helped enhance learning about the season of winter. They also had the opportunity to compare and contrast winter weather, count and sort using “snowballs,” graph winter time activities on a chart, use their five senses to describe ice, and participate in an ice-melting science experiment using a variety of variables. The students loved getting to be hands-on with winter!

The EC3 students truly enjoyed learning about the winter season. They continue to grow academically, spiritually, and creatively every day!
