Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time Today’s reading from the Book of Sirach concerns itself with our free will. In the second reading, Paul instructs us on the role of the Holy Spirit as the revelation of God’s plan of salvation. The Gospel tells us that Jesus came to fulfill the law and the prophets and shows us his knowledge of the Mosaic Law.

Confirmation Candidates Sessions The Second Thursday Gifts of the Holy Spirit Candidates Session will be held on Thursday, February 13 at 7:00 PM in the Parish Hall. Candidates should bring their Bible, notebook, and favorite pen. Parents Meeting The Second Thursday Parents Meeting will be held on Thursday, February 13 at 8:00 PM in the Parish Hall. Important information about the spaghetti fundraiser, retreat, and the February/March schedule will be discussed. Please do not bring small children. Spaghetti Fundraisers The last opportunity to get your spaghetti and meatballs before Lent. The second spaghetti fundraiser will be held on Sunday, February 23, from 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM in the Parish Hall. Pre-sale tickets are $7 and can be purchased from Confirmation candidates or in the OLMC Bookstore. Tickets are $8 at the door. Join us for some fellowship and special guest entertainment.

OLMC School News HFD teaches OLMC students about safety As a part of our annual Catholic Schools Week celebration, the Houston Fire Department visited our students to teach about emergency and fire safety, as well as to give students an idea of what it is like to be a firefighter. Students in grades Pre-K3 through 2nd grade were able to demonstrate their knowledge of when to call 9-1-1, when to "stop, drop and roll," and how to keep themselves and their family members safe. To conclude, students had the chance to climb into the fire truck! OLMC School wishes to thank the Houston Fire Department for its hard work each day and for giving of their time to educate our students on safety. OLMC honors the seniors in our community Each year during Catholic Schools Week OLMC School offers service and honor to our parish and school senior citizens in our Soup for Seniors event. Jr. High students grades 6-8, along with parent volunteers, did all of the set up, serving, and cleaning, while our guests enjoyed a delicious homemade chicken and vegetable soup, with a special cake for dessert. During the meal, OLMC School Choir sang a selection of songs in honor of our seniors, who make such an important contributions to our church and school community. We would like to thank the seniors who came out on a cold day to celebrate Catholic Schools Week with our students. We look forward to seeing you at next year's event, as well as in other events throughout the school year.

Noticias de la Escuela OLMC El Departamento de Bomberos de Houston enseña sobre

seguridad a los Estudiantes de la escuela OLMC Como parte de nuestra celebración anual de la Semana de las Escuelas Católicas, el Departamento de Bomberos de Houston visitó a nuestros estudiantes para enseñarles acerca de situaciones de emergencia y de seguridad en contra de incendios, así como para dar a los estudiantes una idea de lo que significa ser bombero. Los estudiantes desde los grados Pre-K3 hasta 2do. demostraron su conocimiento de cuándo debían llamar al 9-1-1, cuando "parar, caer y rodar", y cómo mantenerse seguros a sí mismos y a los miembros de sus familias en situaciones de emergencia. Para concluir, los estudiantes tuvieron la oportunidad de subir al camión de bomberos! La escuela NSMC quiere agradecer al Cuerpo de Bomberos de Houston por su duro trabajo cada día y por ofrecer parte de su tiempo a la educación de nuestros alumnos en el tema de la seguridad.

OLMC honra a los adultos mayores de nuestra comunidad Cada año durante la Semana de las Escuelas Católicas nuestra propia escuela NSMC ofrece su servicio en honor a los adultos mayores de nuestra parroquia y de la escuela por medio de la invitación a una Sopa para ellos. Los estudiantes Junior High de los grados 6to. a 8vo., junto con los padres voluntarios, hicieron todo lo referente a la organización, al servicio y la limpieza, mientras que nuestros invitados asistentes disfrutaron de un delicioso pollo casero y sopa de verduras, con un pastel especial para el postre. Durante este homenaje, el coro de la escuela NSMC cantó una selección de canciones en honor a nuestros adultos mayores, quienes

constituyen una parte tan importante de nuestra iglesia y de la comunidad escolar. Quisiéramos darle nuestro agradecimiento a nuestros adultos mayores que han venido hasta aquí en un día tan frio para celebrar la Semana de las Escuelas Católicas con nuestros estudiantes. Esperamos verlos en el evento del próximo año, así como en otros eventos durante todo nuestro año escolar.
