Fight Hunger! NHS Sponsored Food Drive To Benefit Nemaha County Food Pantry The Food Drive Students asked to bring non-perishable food items to school the week before Thanksgiving. Small daily incentives for participants: Wristband, pencil, sucker, headband Week Incentive: K-6: balloon release: if # of food > principals weight. 7-12: Block-a-Teacher Day: stack of food items fills teacher doorway = no homework assignment that night. The Collection-1 NHS President Laura Baumgartner tallies the cans collected and hands out the Fight Hunger Bracelets Collection-2 Each combo-class has a box and a daily weight was recorded. Collection -3 Everyone is pitching in! Block-A-Teacher -1 The 8 th grade proudly displays their contributions to blocking the IDL room! Block-A-Teacher -2 Even the Science room was not safe from the Seventh graders efforts! Block-A-Teacher -3 Mr. Meyer measures his doorway to verify that the boxes of food by his room would, indeed, block his door. No math homework tonight! The Final Tally Bern Student (K-12) collected almost 900 pounds of food items for the Food Bank! The Balloon Release-1 NHS members helped elementary students write their names on school-addressed cards that will be tied to their balloons. The Balloon Release-2 With a cry of Fight Hunger! balloons are released. A week later, we received a call from a woman in Illinois who had found one of our balloons in her yard. The students were thrilled to learn their message had traveled so far. NHS & Service One of the four characteristics for selection into NHS is Service. We strive to promote this quality in members and all students. Each member is responsible for 12 hours of service a semester. Projects include: Maintenance of School marquee. Annual food drive Adopt-a Highway Roadside Clean-up Assist with Easter Egg Hunt Other school projects, ex. painting parking lines
