Grayling 8.168 Within the MBW there are 194 individual records from 43 separate sites (Figure 8.78) for this

NERC Act and UK BAP priority species. Considering contemporary records only, the species was recorded on 135 occasions from 36 sites. The available records show 23 recently recorded sites (post-1988) and seven sites no longer support individuals of this species. Overall, the range of this species has increased from 20 to 36 sites within the MBW. In addition, the total numbers of records has increased greatly from 59 to 135 between the two time periods. Nonetheless, without consideration of the actual abundance, no real comment can be made as regards the conservation status of the species within MBW as no assessment can be made of population trends.

8.169 Considering the coverage of this species by protected areas, 25.3% (49) of records fall within SBI (Bidston Marsh, Caldy Golf Course, Caldy Hill, Hilbre Point/Red Rocks, Leasowe Common, New Ferry Butterfly Park, Royal Liverpool Golf Course, Wallasey Golf Course and Leasowe Gun Site and Wirral Way: Caldy-Thurston-Heswall), 45.9% (89) within SSSI (Dee Cliffs, Dee Estuary, North Wirral Foreshore, Red Rocks and Thurstaston Common), 46.4% (90) within all statutory sites (as for SSSI with Bidston Moss, Hilbre Islands and Thurstaston Common LNRs and the Dee Estuary Ramsar, SPA and SAC), and 69.1% (134) within all statutory and SBI collectively. Taking account of only those records considered contemporary (i.e. post-1988), 29.6% (40) of records fall within SBI (Bidston Marsh, Caldy Golf Course, Caldy Hill, Hilbre Point/Red Rocks, Leasowe Common, New Ferry Butterfly Park, Royal Liverpool Golf Course, Wallasey Golf Course and Leasowe Gun Site and Wirral Way: Caldy-Thurston-Heswall), 41.5% (56) within SSSI (Dee Cliffs, Dee Estuary, North Wirral Foreshore, Red Rocks and Thurstaston Common), 42.2% (57) within all statutory sites (as for SSSI with Bidston Moss and Thurstaston Common LNRs and the Dee Estuary Ramsar, SPA and SAC), and 68.1% (92) within all statutory and SBI collectively.

Green-Brindled Crescent 8.170 Within the MBW there are 53 individual records from four separate sites (Figure 8.79) for this

NERC Act and UK BAP priority species. Considering contemporary records only, the species was recorded on seven occasions from three sites. The available records show three recently recorded sites (post-1988) and one site no longer supports individuals of this species. Overall, the range of this species has increased from one site to three within the MBW. The total numbers of records has, however, decreased greatly from 46 to seven between the two time periods. Nonetheless, without consideration of the actual abundance, no real comment can be made as regards the conservation status of the species within MBW as no assessment can be made of population trends.

8.171 Considering the coverage of this species by protected areas, none of the recorded sites (pre or post-1988) are from within the boundaries of statutory protected areas or SBI.

Greenweed Flat-Body Moth 8.172 This species is listed on the NERC Act and UK BAP due to recent declines in the numbers in

Britain. Within the MBW, there is a single historical record dating from 1887 (Figure 8.80). It is, therefore, likely that this species is no longer present within the MBW.

8.173 Considering the coverage of this species by protected areas, none of the recorded sites were from within the boundaries of statutory protected areas or SBI.

Grey Dagger 8.174 Within the MBW there are 60 individual records from 17 separate sites (Figure 8.81) for this

NERC Act and UK BAP priority species. Considering contemporary records only, the species was recorded on 23 occasions from ten sites. The available records show eight recently recorded sites (post-1988) and seven sites no longer support individuals of this species. Overall, the range of this species has increased slightly from nine to ten sites within the MBW. The total numbers of records has, however, decreased from 37 to 23 between the two time periods. Nonetheless, without consideration of the actual abundance, no real comment can be made as regards the conservation status of the species within MBW as no assessment can be made of population trends.

8.175 Considering the coverage of this species by protected areas, 5.0% (three) of records fall within SBI (Wallasey Golf Course and Leasowe Gun Site), 6.7% (four) within SSSI (Dee Estuary and Thurstaston Common), 6.7% (four) within all statutory sites (as for SSSI with Hilbre Islands and Thurstaston Common LNRs and the Dee Estuary Ramsar, SPA and SAC), and 11.7% (seven) within all statutory and SBI collectively. Taking account of only those records considered contemporary (i.e. post-1988), one record falls within SBI (Wallasey Golf Course and Leasowe Gun Site), 13.0% (three) within SSSI (Dee Estuary and Thurstaston Common), 13.0% (three) within all statutory sites (as for SSSI with Thurstaston Common LNR and the Dee Estuary Ramsar, SPA and SAC), and 17.4% (four) within all statutory and SBI collectively.

Grizzled Skipper 8.176 Within the MBW there are two individual records from a single site (Figure 8.82) for this NERC

Act and UK BAP priority species, the most recent of which dates from 1951. Given that there are no post-1988 records it is likely that this species no longer occurs within the MBW, although field work to determine current status is recommended.

8.177 Considering the coverage of this species by protected areas, the single recorded site did not fall within the boundaries of any of the statutory protected sites or SBI.

Haworth's Minor 8.178 Within the MBW there is a single contemporary record from a single site (Figure 8.83) for this

NERC Act and UK BAP priority species. Given that there are no historical records for this species it is not possible to assess population changes within the MBW. Nonetheless, the low numbers of records and sites suggest that this species is likely to be extremely rare within the MBW.

8.179 Considering the coverage of this species by protected areas, the site is from within the Red Rocks SSSI.

Heath Rustic 8.180 Within the MBW there are seven individual records from three separate sites (Figure 8.84) for

this NERC Act and UK BAP priority species. Considering contemporary records only, the species was recorded on five occasions from two sites. The available records show one recently recorded site (post-1988) and one site no longer supports individuals of this species. Overall, the range of this species has remained static at two sites within the MBW. Nonetheless, without consideration of the actual abundance, no real comment can be made as regards the conservation status of the species within MBW as no assessment can be made of population trends. Although the low numbers of sites and species are of concern for this species.

8.181 Considering the coverage of this species by protected areas, 71.4% (five) of records fall within SSSI (Dee Cliffs and Thurstaston Common) and 71.4% (five) within all statutory sites (as for SSSI with Thurstaston Common LNR and the Dee Estuary Ramsar, SPA and SAC). Taking account of only those records considered contemporary (i.e. post-1988), 100% (five) of records fall within SSSI (Dee Estuary and Thurstaston Common) and 100% (five) within all statutory sites (as for SSSI with Thurstaston Common LNR and the Dee Estuary Ramsar, SPA and SAC).

Hedge Rustic 8.182 Within the MBW there are 25 individual records from six separate sites (Figure 8.85) for this

NERC Act and UK BAP priority species. Considering contemporary records only, the species was recorded on 15 occasions from two sites. The available records show one recently recorded site (post-1988) and four sites no longer support individuals of this species. Overall, the range of this species has decreased from five to two sites within the MBW. Although the total numbers of records has increased from ten to 15 between the two time periods, the low numbers of sites and records are of concern for this specvies. Nonetheless, without consideration of the actual abundance, no real comment can be made as regards the conservation status of the species within MBW as no assessment can be made of population trends.

8.183 Considering the coverage of this species by protected areas, 12.0% (three) of records fall within SBI (Wallasey Golf Course and Leasowe Gun Site), 28.0% (seven) within SSSI (Dee Estuary and North Wirral Foreshore), 28.0% (seven) within all statutory sites (as for SSSI with Hilbre Islands LNR and the Dee Estuary Ramsar, SPA and SAC), and 40.0% (ten) within all statutory and SBI collectively. Taking account of only those records considered contemporary (i.e. post-1988), 13.3% (two) of records fall within SSSI (Dee Estuary) and 13.3% (two) within all statutory sites (as for SSSI with Hilbre Islands LNR and the Dee Estuary Ramsar, SPA and SAC), and 68.1% (two) within all statutory and SBI collectively.
