Not for the lip of praise alone, Nor even the praising heart I ask, but for a life made up
Of praise in every part!

So You Would Come
Before the world began You were on His mind
And every tear you cry is Precious in His eyes
Because of His great love He gave His only Son
Everything was done, so you would come

So You Would Come
Nothing you can do, could make Him love you more
And nothing that you've done Could make Him close the door

Everything was done, so you would come

Come to the Father though your Gift is small

Just thanking God…..
Just thanking God for accepting me
Just thanking God for what he does in and through flawed people
Just thanking God for his tenderness
Just thanking God for coping with my wandering thoughts when I pray
Just thanking God for his mercy
Just thanking God for our young people
Just thanking God for wanting me to be like Jesus
Just thanking God for the prayer fb generates
Just thanking God for his amazing grace
Just thanking God for this desire I have to be Christlike
Just thanking God for believing in me
Just thanking God for people who have influenced me in a positive way
Psalm 50:1-15 (NLT)
4 He calls on the heavens above and earth below to witness the judgment of his people. 5 “Bring my faithful people to me— those who made a covenant with me by giving sacrifices.” 6 Then let the heavens proclaim his justice, for God himself will be the judge. Interlude
Psalm 50:1-15 (NLT)
7 “O my people, listen as I speak. Here are my charges against you, O Israel: I am God, your God! 8 I have no complaint about your sacrifices or the burnt offerings you constantly offer. 9 But I do not need the bulls from your barns or the goats from your pens. 10 For all the animals of the forest are mine, and I own the cattle on a thousand hills.
Psalm 50:1-15 (NLT)
11 I know every bird on the mountains, and all the animals of the field are mine. 12 If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for all the world is mine and everything in it. 13 Do I eat the meat of bulls? Do I drink the blood of goats? 14 Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High. 15 Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.”
Colossians 3:15-17 (NLT)
15 And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful. 16 Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. 17 And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.
1. What the Lord wanted
It seems in Psalm 50 that God did not really want or need these costly sacrifices that the people were giving.
‘I have no complaint about your sacrifices or the burnt offerings you constantly offer. But I do not need the bulls from your barns or the goats from your pens.
For all the animals of the forest are mine, and I own the cattle on a thousand hills.’ V. 8-10
What the Lord really wanted was simply a thankful heart, & to keep the promises they had made.
‘Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High’ v.14
2. Cultivate thankfulness
‘And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.
Let the message about Christ , in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and council each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms & hymns & spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.
And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.’
Col 3:15-17 (NLT)
V. 15 ‘Cultivate thankfulness’ (The Message)
The surest way to live with honour in the world is to be in reality what we appear to be. Socrates
3. Sacrifice of thanksgiving
‘Let the giving of thanks be your sacrifice to God…’
Psalm 50:14a
Conclusion:
‘Whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father’ Col 3:17
