ImportaNt safetyINstrUctIoNsWarNING –To guard against injury, basic safety precautions should be observed, including the following:

a. reaD & foLLoW aLL safety INstrUctIoNsB. DaNGer – To avoid possible

electric shock, special care should be taken since water isemployed in the use of aquarium equipment. For each of the following situations, do not attempt repairs by yourself; returnthefiltertoanauthorizeddealer for service or discard the filter.

1. Thisfilterisdesignedforindooruse only.

2. Ifthefilterfallsintothewater,DON’T reach for it! First unplug it and then retrieve it. If electrical components of the filtergetwet,unplugtheimmediately.

3. Carefullyexaminethefilterafter installation. It should not beplugged in if there is water on parts not intended to be wet.

4. Donotoperateanyfilterifithasa damaged cord, plug, if it is malfunctioning or has beendropped or damaged in any manner.

5. To avoid the possibility of thefilterplugorreceptaclegettingwet, position aquarium stand and tank to one side of a wall-

mounted receptacle to prevent water from dripping onto thereceptacle or plug. A “drip loop”,showninthefigureat the top of the page, should be arranged by the user for each cord connecting an aquarium filtertoareceptacle.The“drip

loop” is that part of the cordbelow the level of the receptacle,(or the connector ifan extension cord is used), to prevent water traveling along the cord and coming in contactwith the receptacle. If the plug or receptacle does get wet,DON’T unplug the cord. Disconnect the fuse or circuit breaker that supplies power tothefilter.Thenunplugand examine for presence of water in the receptacle.

c. Close supervision is necessary whenanyfilterisusedbyornear children.

D. To avoid injury, do not touch moving parts.

e. Alwaysunplugafilterfromtheoutlet when not in use before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning. Never yank cord to pull plug from outlet. Grasp the plug and pull to disconnect.

f. Donotusethefilterforanyother purpose than intendeduse. The use of attachments not recommended or sold by thefiltermanufacturermaycause an unsafe condition.

G. Donotinstallorstorethefilterwhere it will be exposed to the weather or to temperatures belowfreezing.

H. Makesureafiltermountedonatank is securely installed before operating it.

I. Read and observe all theimportantnoticesonthefilter.

J. If an extension cord is necessary, a cord with a proper rating should be used A cord rated for less amps or watts than the filterratingmayoverheat.Careshould be taken to arrange the cord so that it will not be tripped over or pulled.

2. Makesurethefilterisaminimumof24”(60cm)toamaximumof55”(140cm)BELOWthewaterleveloftheaquarium.Thefilterwillneedtositonalevelsurface.

3. Take a look at your aquarium and decide where you want to place the inlet and outlet pipes and the FILSTAr Filter.

4. make sure the hoses will be long enough and won’t be stretched after installation.

4. The Flexible Tubing 5 should be pushed onthe Intlet Pipe c 2”(5cm)andsecuredwith a Flexible Tubing Clamp I.

5. Attach 2 each Suction Cup Clamps H with 2 each Suction Cups G to the Inlet Pipe cso that it can be secured to the aquarium.

Note: It is very important NOT to cut the tubing too short. If the tubing is cut too short it creates tension on the quick disconnect valve,andthefiltermayleak.Additionally,leaving the tubing too long may prevent the filterfromprimingandgreatlyreducethewaterflow.

4. Push the tube onto the water inlet of theQuick Disconnet Valve. This inlet connectiononthefilterismarkedbythe drawing and by the light grey color. Secure the Flexible Tubing with a Flexible Tubing Clamp.

3. The Flexible Tubing 5 should be pushed onto the Outlet Pipe B2”(5cm)andsecured with a Flexible Tubing Clamp I.

4. Attach two each Suction Cup ClampsH with two each Suction Cups G to the Outet Pipe so that it can be secured in the aquarium.

coNNectING to tHe fILter1. Follow the procedure described on page

7tomeasureandcutyourtubing.

2. Push the tube onto the water outlet of the Quick Disconnet Valve. This outlet connectiononthefilterismarkedbythe drawing and by the dark grey color. Secure the Flexible Tubing with a Flexible Tubing Clamp.

prImING tHe fILter1. Whenyouhavefinishedassemblingyour

filter,lifttheleverontheQuickDisconnectValve.

2. Remove the Inlet Pipe Cap D .

3. Pour water in until the tube in between the Inlet Pipe Assembly and the Quick Disconnect Valve is full of water.

4. Replace the Inlet Cap securely.

5. make sure the Quick Disconnect Valve is fullyseatedintheBlueMotorHousingandthen push the lever down.

6. Thecanistershouldbegintofillwithwaterand air should be forced out through the tubing.

7. Allow2minutesforthefilterandtubingtofillcompletelyandpluginthepowercord.

Once the unit is primed and plugged in, the water should start to pump into the tank and drain back out into the canister. If it does not, consult the Trouble Shooting on this page.

plugging in the power cord: To avoid the possibility of the electric plug getting wet, a “drip-loop”, should be arranged by the user. See Safety Instructions on page 2 for more information on the drip-loop.

Note: If water does come into contact with the receptacle or the plug, turn the power supply off at the circuit box. DO NOT unplug the cord until the power supply is off.

Withmoreexperience,youwilladapttheseinstructionstothespecificneedsofyouraquarium.

If the flow of water through your filter begins to decrease or stops, it is most likely due to dirty or clogged filter media, and should be cleaned immediately.

1. Unplugthepowercordfromtheelectrical outlet.

2. LiftupontheQuickDisconnect Valve.

3. Gently disengage the Quick DisconnectValve from the top oftheBlueMotorHousing.

4. Carrythefiltertothesink using the handles moldedintotheBlueMotorHousing.Donotcarrythefilterbytheclamps on the canister, this could damagethefilter.

5. releasethe4clampsandremovetheBlueMotorHousing.removethemediabaskets from the canister and emptyout the water. Rinse or change the filtrationmedia.

Note:Themicro-filtrationpadcollectsveryfineparticlesandisdifficulttorinseclean.Itisrecommended to replace this pad at every cleaning.If you are using a bio-media such as BIO-CHEMSTArS®orceramicrings,rinsethemlightly with water from the aquarium, Not tap Water.

6. Rinse the canister, baskets and impeller.

7. replacethefiltrationmediainthebasketsand the baskets in the canister. Replace thehousingunit,securethe4clampsand

returntheemptyfiltertoitspositionunderthe aquarium.

8. Replace the Quick Disconnect Valve and pushtheleverdown.Watershouldbegintofillthecanisterautomatically.

9. Waitfor2minutesandpluginthepowercord.
