A STUDY ON DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM IN MANGEMENTINFORMATION SYSTEM
SYNOPSIS
INTRODUCTION
MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM (MIS) • Management Information System (MIS) integrates all data
and processes of an organization in to a unified system. An Information system (IS) defined technically as asset of interrelated components that collect (or retrieve), process, store and distribute information to support decision making, co-ordination and control in an Organization.
• The fundamental role of Information system (IS) in organization to provide - support strategies for competitive advantage, business decision making and business processes and operations.
• The main scope of MIS to provide strategic decision making, management control, operational control and knowledge level decisions. MIS use multiple components of computer hardware and software to achieve the integration. A key ingredient of MIS is the use of a unified database to store data for the various system modules and also act as a Monitoring and Control system model.
• However, the term MIS is typically reserved for larger, more broadly based applications. The introduction of an Decision Support System (DSS) to replace two or more independent application eliminates the need for external interfaces previously required between two systems, and provides additional benefits that range from standardization and lower maintenance(one system instead of two or more ) to easier and greater reporting capabilities(as all data is typically kept in one database).
• Hence, MIS act as central part of the company by managing the entire database and providing faster decision making and control through provision of timely information and also better decision making and control through provision of relevant information. The vital role of MIS to maintain Service Level Agreement (SLA) of the company by not violating it and to provide better performance, reliability and service. Currently Decision Support System (DSS) project is carried out to accomplish major goals of the company.

OBJECTIVE
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
• The main aim of the project is to develop a system which will enable Decision support system (DSS) using Management Information System (MIS).
SECONDARY OBJECTIVE ● To support Decision making for the
top level management.• To provide Management control
and to meet strategy goals of the Organization.
• To meet the global challenges and adapting to the day today trends.
• To maintain Service Level Agreement’s (SLA’s) of the company.
PROBLEM DEFINITION One important factor that should be
kept in mind while designing Decision Support System (DSS). The post-implementation phase is very critical once the implementation is over, the Network Engineers and the clients will go to reap the full benefits of DSS system. It is very important that system should get Organization wide acceptance there should be enough Network Engineers who are trained to handle the problems that might crop-up
● Business integration ● Flexibility ● Better analysis and planning capabilities
Use of latest technologies• The NOC is equipped with latest lab & production
equipment from CISCO. Eljay has a fully functional CISCO Call manager system, IPCC, Unity and Voice Gateways, Enterprise IP Telephony, VPN & Security and Routing & Switching in place for problem simulation and testing as part of our support NOC SERVICES.
• DSS combines to improving the efficient and effectively of any organization by automating the organization business process
• DSS is a mirror image of the major business processes of an organization. DSS basically deals with five major’s parts such as strategic planning, tactical decision making, competitive business strategy, total quality management, finally Decision support for the management.
SYSTEM ANALYSISEXISTING SYSTEM• The first stage of Management Information System
(MIS) development is study of the system under consideration and its requirement analysis. During these stages, constant interaction with the user of the system is necessary. The required information from the users is the input data to the system and the expected output. The purpose is to get an idea about the operations and the interactions of the existing system its drawbacks and to identify further requirements. The system study for this project was carried out at MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM.
• At present the system is store network engineers productivity hours and daily hand off manually in paper document and reports are stored in a separate file. It is difficult for both the top level management people (home country & overseas) to view the productivity hours of the Network Engineers and total productivity produced by the company. If the number of Network Engineers increases it’s very difficult to store all the details in paper since the productivity hour increases. At the same time maintaining large volume of data also a big problem and it will take more processing time. The clients requirements (tickets) are entered in MIS and the Network Engineers will handle the tickets. It is difficult to store the records when tickets are entered more and within the stipulated time Network Engineers must need to take the solutions for tickets and if not it will violate the Service Level Agreement (SLA).
LIMITATION OF PRESENT SYSTEM
The existing system is having the following demerits
• More manual work• Productivity time is difficult to find.• Time Tedious process• Error occur frequently• Security of information is low• Data redundancy• Contains lot of files and confidential reports
need more storage place.
PROPOSED SYSTEM • Decision Support System (DSS) help to analyze the
present system in it’s fully dimension. It recommended the needs for a new system that could handle the in efficiencies of the present. After more services and better aid for the Clients and the Network Engineers. Certainly a DSS was identified to be the best of me. The system should be user friendly with improved efficiency for handling tickets and productivity of the company increases. It should reduce the workload of Network Engineers and encourage them to work in an easier manner within the scheduled time. It is easy to create and store the reports of the Network Engineers and also it is easy to identify the entry of tickets. So the Network Engineers resolve the problem within the stipulate time and the company Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) not violated.
MERITS OF PROPOSED SYSTEM
• More accurate information and updating the tickets for the Network engineers within the stipulated time.
• Reduce the paper work in use at any time • Data can be handled quickly, efficiently
and accurately.• To maintain the Service Level
Agreements (SLA’s) of the company.• To provide facilities and to produce the
reports for the top management people at any time.
NEED OF THE STUDY
To make the TICKET entry and updating will be more flexible by easy retrieval of information for the Network Engineers. To produce accurate and well-formatted reports which is easy to create and store in MIS reports by avoiding data duplicacy and data inconsistency.
FEASIBILITY OF STUDY • The Decision Support System (DSS) has been designed and
developed flexible according to the current requirements. • After the implementation of DSS, Network Engineers
should know how to handle the system effectively and efficiently by filling the MIS. This involves them in understanding overall system and it’s effective on the organization and being ask to carry out effectively the specific task and to increase the productivity of the company. Once the ticket has been completed by the Network Engineers, they must have to fill the MIS. The next step is to educate the Network Engineers on the concept how to fill the MIS and taking the clients Request, Change orders, Incidents not to violate the company’s Service- Level Agreements (SLA’s).A Service- Level Agreement is a contract between a network service provider and a customer that specifies, usually in measurable terms , what services the network service provider will furnish.
OPERATION FEASIBILITY
The operation feasibility depends on the willingness to operate system by the beneficiaries in the project and to act Decision Support System (DSS) as Monitoring and Control System Model.
TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY
• The technical feasibility issues usually raised during the feasibility stage of investigation.
• The necessary technology exists in Decision Support System (proposed system) which fulfilling the major criteria of the company and also client requirements will be satisfied.
PROCESS OF MANAGEMENT
The process of management in Network Operation centers (NOC) is carried out by SNMP operations. File Transfer Process from the Database Request with and without Hyper Text Pre-Processor (PHP) - Front End
