INTRODUCTION: Thank you for your interest in and support of the Ferntree Gully Eagles Football Club. Our Committee and Football Department are striving both on and off field to build the best development environment for young people from a range of backgrounds looking to play Australian Rules Football in Ferntree Gully within the Eastern Football League (EFL). We aim to become the ‘club of choice’ particularly for our affiliated Junior Club players as well as for our neighbouring communities - as we aspire to achieve our Club’s Strategic Plan motto and underpinning Values:

PROUD, PROFESSIONAL, INCLUSIVE, UNITED

RESPECT, EXCELLENCE, DISCIPLINE, ENGAGEMENT, RESPONSIBILITY We acknowledge the significant work of our forefathers who have provided a wonderful platform and facility for us to enjoy today. Likewise, we have a responsibility to build upon this platform to solidify the foundations for all to enjoy into the future. We are a proud Club with a history spanning over 120 years to 23 March 1892 when the Ferntree Gully Football Club was first established and founded. We have been a member of the EFL since 1965, and in 2016, FERNTREE GULLY FOOTBALL remains the third largest football club in the League; and certainly the largest in Knox. Together with our partner tenant clubs, we also aspire to build the best possible facilities to make Wally H Tew Reserve one of the Premier venues in the Knox Municipality. Our #1 ticket holder(s) are very closely associated with our club, and I am pleased to announce that for season 2016 they are:

• The Hon. Alan Tudge MP; and • Tess Woods

We welcome you to the Ferntree Gully Football Club and invite you to be an active member of an exciting and successful era both on and off the field. We say a BIG THANK YOU to our outgoing Secretary Sharon Nied who has been a stalwart and whose name is synonymous with Ferntree Gully Football. After many years in the Secretary role over a journey of over a decade at both the Junior and Senior sections of the Club, Sharon departs for a well-earned rest. We welcome Levili Wakeling to the inaugural club Administration position. Never before offered, this position is an integral part of the future of our great club, and we wish Levili every success in the role. Season 2016 promises to be a memorable for the Ferntree Gully Football Club both on and off field. On field, the Football Operations department has been busy re-negotiating contracts with our player list as well as creating new contracts with our list of recruits. We welcome each and every one of you and your families to the Eagles; and thank the Football Operations department for all their tireless work.

Off field, the Committee has been charged with the responsibility of prioritising four key pieces of work. This season, we will focus on:

1. Further developing and formalising the Ferntree Gully Football concept together with our Junior section, and the Community Sports Club concept together with our partner tenants;

2. Promoting more fully the Ferntree Gully Football brand; 3. Strengthening more deeply our Junior Development Program; and 4. Appointing to a new Administration position recently created focussing on community and sponsorship

engagement. All the pieces of the jigsaw are coming together creating the overall picture, leading to fulfilling the vision of the club. On 5 November 2012 at his final rally before the Presidential election, President Obama told the story of “Fired Up! Ready to Go!”. If you haven’t seen it, please watch it - here is the YouTube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MjccRjErQw Suffice to ask: Are you “Fired Up! Ready to Go!” ? I know I am. Yours sincerely, Sam Cavarra President March 2016

A MESSAGE FROM THE SENIOR COACH Welcome to Season 2016. Our mantra for this coming season…

“BE RELIABLE, NOT REMARKABLE – PLAY YOUR ROLE” Below is a brief description of my definition of BEING RELIABLE: To me, being reliable means:

• Being honest. • Doing what you say you are going to do. • Fulfilling the commitments you make. • Toeing the line and being there because you said you would be. • Removing the obstacles that can sometimes get in your way (ie: injury prevention, recovery, additional

training, etc.). • Not letting anything stop you from doing what you said you were going to do.

Understanding what you need to do for you, for your team mate, for your football club, and doing it, not sometimes, but all the time, that’s being reliable! It’s being there for your team mate when things don’t go to plan and he needs you, because you said you would be. Reliability is the foundation of teamwork, it allows us to know each person is playing their role. It’s about US – not me. Peter Farrell Senior Coach March 2016

OUR FOOTBALL TEAM In season 2016, our 1st XVIII Football Team will be led by: Captain:

• Simon Godfrey Vice-Captains:

• Billy Morrison Deputy Vice Captain

• Ricky Aitken • Chris Cox

Leadership Team: • Jye Goodman • John Cavarra

The captain role in the 2nd XVIII Football Team will be rotated in season 2016 – as it was in 2015. Our Under 19’s Football Team will be led by: Captain:

• Jake Siewert Vice-Captain:

• Jackson Gardiner Deputy Vice-Captains:

• Brayden Siewert The pre-season commenced in November 2015; and after a short break over the Christmas period, training resumed in mid-January 2016 - culminating in a very gruelling but enjoyable Football Camp held at Inverloch at the end of February 2016. The boys are fit; they understand the game plan; and are professionally led by our senior Coach – Peter Farrell.

LET THE HOME & AWAY SEASON BEGIN!

Our Junior Development Foundation (The Two Blues Foundation) will be further strengthened in season 2016 with renewed enthusiasm resulting in greater attention to our Juniors. Not only will there be greater communication between the Senior and Junior clubs; but also a greater link between our Senior Coach and all Junior Club Coaches – including player mentoring by our senior players. Our Future – the Under 17’s - whilst they belong at the Junior Club, they will participate in most Senior activities in particular training at the senior ground.

SPECIAL GENERAL MEETINGS

COTERIE GROUPS

OUR CLUB STRATEGIC PLAN In February 2013, a Ferntree Gully Football Club Special General Meeting was called to review its future direction and Strategic Plan – such a meeting is necessary as per the Club’s Constitution. A new Strategic Plan was overwhelmingly and unanimously endorsed along with a motto. At the October 2014 Annual General Meeting, and as a next stage in the club’s Strategic Planning process, a list of VALUES were endorsed that underpin the Strategic Plan motto. Together, these aspects now form the club’s strategic direction with the motto:

PROUD, PROFESSIONAL, INCLUSIVE, UNITED RESPECT, EXCELLENCE, DISCIPLINE, ENGAGEMENT, RESPONSIBILITY

All members, committee, players and visitors will need to abide by the strategic plan and values that underpin this plan.

GOVERNANCE AND ORGANSISATIONAL STRUCTURE Along with the Strategic Plan, the 2013 Ferntree Gully Football Club Special General Meeting also unanimously endorsed a new Governance and Organisational structure arrangement. This is depicted in the chart below:

ACTIVITES SCHEDULED FOR 2016 Ferntree Gully Football: ONE club ONE identity – Season Launch This will be an entire Ferntree Gully Football event; all Auskick and Junior players are required to attend and wear their Ferntree Gully playing jumper because a whole of club photo will be taken on the day together with the senior players. This will be a day not to be missed with rides and activities for the kids; and AFL players (current and past) in attendance. Details of this event will be posted on all websites and facebook. AFL Quality Club program application Preparations are underway to be further accredited with the AFL Swisse Quality Club Program. This is an important application for the club moving forward as it will require us to comply with all current and relevant legislation; will provide us with greater publicity and promotional opportunities; and be recognised as a club of choice in the local community. Developments in this area will be shared with our community as we progress through each of the stages. At this point, our Club has been accredited with Bronze Level status. Good Sports – Responsible Serving of Alcohol (RSA) Currently, the club is level 3 (highest level available) accredited. We need to ensure that not only we comply with the requirements but that we also build upon the base we have established. For more details, please talk to our RSA trained person behind the bar.

ON-FIELD WEAR

All our players will be wearing new club playing jumpers in season 2016 sporting latest fashion designs, and proudly displaying our major sponsor: Schroeder and Wallace (formerly Knox Residential) & Ferntree Gully Hyundai/Kia. Also, the new AWAY (white) sublimated shorts have arrived and we will be wearing these for the first time in season 2016; to match the HOME blue shorts introduced in season 2015. Finally, our senior team will wear a specially designed ANZAC Day jumper which will be proudly worn at our HOME game on the ANZAC Day weekend. These jumpers will be worn for one game only after which we will sell and/or auction the jumpers and donate proceeds to the RSL. With these changes, our teams will certainly look the part in season 2016 and beyond.

OFF-FIELD WEAR

An exciting new range of off-field wear is currently being designed for 2016. The range will include clothing design specific for ladies. Rebecca Siewert is coordinating the attire. We encourage all of our members and families to support the off-field clothing range moving forward. Our off-field designs will certainly complement the on-field clothing changes. As a club we will certainly be making a professional statement.

WALLY TEW RESERVE FACILITIES UPDATE ANZAC Plaque A new ANZAC Plaque has been struck and will be installed in the week leading up to ANZAC Day. It commemorates members of our tenant clubs who served in the great wars and did not return home. This will be an emotional and ‘moving’ addition to our facilities, forever enshrined at our club, and serving as a reminder of the sacrifices made for our way of life.
