ISLAM IN THE MEDIA FINAL PITCH

PURPOSE

The purpose of this documentary is to inform people that Islam is different to the way the media portrays. The media portrays Islam to be related to terrorism which causes people to classify Muslims as terrorists. I want to change this misconception.Perhaps making this documentary it would reduce the amount of anti-Muslim hate crime. As people would be able to understand what Islam is.

TARGET AUDIENCE

My primary target audience are racist white people who live on benefits as well as are part of racists groups such as EDL and Britain FirstMy secondary target audience are rich white people who have negative opinions on Muslims because they believe what the media says.

RESEARCH I have conducted primary and secondary research on my topic on Islam in the Media. For example, I used focus groups, questionnaires, articles similar documentaries and phone interview to develop my idea. This has allowed me to think about the type of content I should include in my documentary.

COST AND BUDGETS

This is my costs on what I will be spending. As I would not have enough money to cover theses costs then I will be taking over some roles such as the producer, production manager, director. Also, I will be using the schools equipment to cut down my costs .

An organization like BFI may fund my organization as they support documentaries that have relevance to today. This organization also, covers topics, which are not mainstream. I believe my idea is unique so perhaps they would be interested in funding my documentary, as there are not many documentaries out in the documentary industry like my idea.

MAPPING THE DEVELOPMENT OF MY IDEA

This task has allowed me to think about what I should include in my documentary as well as it allowed me to think about what how I could develop my idea.

COMMERCIAL VIABILITY

Here I talked about how my documentary will be filling in the gap. This has enabled me to think about how my documentary would be different to other documentary. As well as how my documentary is different to other documentaries based on the similar issue Islam in the media.

DISTRIBUTION

I decided to advertise, promote and publicise my documentary through specific ways for example I want a trailer of my documentary to go up on channel 4 as this would have a strong impact on my documentary. It would also, mean that the trailer of my documentary will be seen by a wide audience

SIMILAR DOCUMENTARIES

I analysed three documentaries similar to my idea. I found various ways in which I could develop my idea. For example, one of the documentaries consisted of a voice over I found that less engaging because the voiceover just went on and on and it didn't really have a connection with the audience. Therefore in my documentary I will have a presenter to lead my documentary; this would enable the audience to connect with documentary.

LEGAL AND ETHICAL ISSUES

In this task I talked about the legal and ethical issues I could face. For example, an ethical issue is balance and bias, this ethical issue states that I cant make my documentary bias therefore I would have to have the media opinion on Islam in the media as well as my opinion. This would mean that there is a balance to what my documentary would portray.

STRUCTURE OF MY DOCUMENTARYThe structure of my documentary is There will be a speeded up footage of the documentary this would allow the audience to have an idea of what the documentary will include. the documentary will have a introduction of presenter talking about what the documentary is about and what will be happening in the documentarySocial experiment the presenter will be visiting places like the mosque and then will be getting Muslims views on Islam in the media including an imams view on Islam in the media statistics will be shown of the anti-Muslim hate crime rate, include voice overInterview victim of hate crime Presenter talk to audience about the negative affects of hate crimeEnd off on a positive note.
