Introduction
Heliodisplay is a technology used
for displaying images in mid air.
Invented by Chad Dyner.
In the heliodisplay, a projector
focuses the image onto a layer of
mist in mid-air, resulting in a two-
dimensional display that appears to
float.

Cont…• Hi-Tech projector that display pictures in the air.
• An interactive free space display developed by IO2 technologies.
• It is a planar display i.e. 2D not 3D.
• Works as a free space touch screen when connected to PC.
• Eco-friendly , low power consuming and various image and video formats.

History
In late 2003, Chad Dyner demonstrated a unique revolutionary
display technology.
Figured out a way to stop in midair the light coming from the
projector.
Used a cloud of microscopic particles.
In 2005, the U.S. Patent Office granted Dyner a
patent for a "method and system for free-space
imaging display and interface".
• Dyner found IO2 technologies to commercialize the
heliodisplay. 05/02/2023 6

Heliodisplay and Screen ProjectorScreen Projector Heliodisplay
• A screen projector display in 2d.
• A support structure (i.e. projection-screen) is used for displaying a projected image.
• All video, images can been seen in 3d, this makes the image more realistic than on a projection screen.
• No screen is required, as the system itself creates an invisible screen in the air and thus projects on that.

Working Of Heliodisplay
The device converts the imaging properties of the air so that the air
is taken in, converted instantaneously, and then re-ejected out.
The system thus creates a dynamic, non solid particle cloud by
ejecting atomized condensate present in the surrounding air.
Now the projector projects the given input on the found invisible
screen.05/02/2023 13
Heliocast Interactivity
• A handheld object acts as a mouse and drag images in midair.
• Hand movements are monitored by an optical tracking system, which is a camera that:
1. Monitors and locates movements .2. Changes in the location of our hand.

Key Features
• No other additives or chemicals are needed only plain tap water is
necessary.
• Similar to other display darker the ambience brighter the image.
• It does not use holographic technique ,though both have
similarities.
05/02/2023 15
Cont....
• Images can be seen up to 75 degrees off aspect similar to LCD
screen.
• Viewing requires no special glasses or any other background or
foreground screening.

Specifications1024 x 768 resolution, 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratios.
2000:1 contrast ratio.
Supports all formats.
Projects any images that would be viewable on a
computer screen or television.
No specialized hardware or software.
3D compatible.

Build the Heliodisplay into furniture
05/02/2023 19
AdvantagesNo screen to project images.
Device is light weight and can be converted into a furniture.
Nothing is added to air. Nothing affects air quality .
Projected images and video are two-dimensional, but appear
3D since there is no physical depth reference.
Heliodisplay does not create fog, so no electronic devices in
the room are affected.05/02/2023 20
Cont...
Heliodisplay can be used in any country since it works on 95-
115 or 220-240 VAC.
Heliodisplay, imagery can be seen up to 75 degrees off aspect
for a total viewing area of over 150 degrees.
No special glasses required to see the display.
05/02/2023 21
Disadvantages
• Needs controlled lighting for best working conditions.
• Images becomes less visible under bright light.
• Wind and bright light interferes with image visibility.
• Expensive.
05/02/2023 22
Conclusion• Heliodisplay is a good projection unit.• Heliodisplay has great potential and would be ideal for collaborative work• Heliodisplays is still in the initial stages and the flaws of cost and
environment of positioning will soon be overcome.• Several other thin air-displays are available but heliodisplay outclasses
them, because of the attention it draws and its maintainability, and as a result it has more market value.
• Its various applications such as in advertising, a board room etc suggests that its future scope is very bright.
• It does not require any special hardware and support videos and jpg images, flash, quick time etc.
• We can also play games on heliodisplays. • It creates one of the most convincing open-air holographic-like images in
existence.• Heliodisplay can work as a free-space touchscreen when connected to a PC
by a USB cable.05/02/2023 23
