BACKGROUND
Youth 2 Youth Zambia is an initiative that is youth centered, focused and led. The initiative which is
aimed at mentoring and molding the capacity of young people ;in and out of school young people
(15- 35) into self-reliant, self- sustainable, talented and productive individuals. realizing the gaps in the
development agenda and the growing youth challenges that need immediate solution as they are key to
development the initiate was conceptualized during the UNWTO youth forum on sustainable tourism
(2013); noted that although the youth are the majority population of the global village, they are still
under-utilized, marginalized, under productive and most luck the skills to make them marketable in the
circles of employment, business and capitalization.
According to the country’s statistics Zambia is a youthful country, with approximately 74 percent of
its 14 million total population under the age of 30 (28 percent are 15 to 29 years-old). Annual
population growth rate estimates range from 2.4 to 3 percent, and projections indicate a population of
24.5 million by 2030 Zambian Youth, like many young people in developing countries, face
challenges such as high unemployment rates, poor quality of education and educational opportunities,
limited civic engagement opportunities, high HIV prevalence rates, teenage pregnancy, and early
marriage. In Zambia, young people make up a significant proportion of the available labor force, yet
unemployment rates for 20- to 24-year-olds have been estimated to be as much as five times greater
than for older adults. While many employers are hiring youth, key constraints prevent young people
from finding work. These factors include a misalignment of education and labor market needs, lack of
experience, nepotism and corruption in the labor market, and a lack of skills and entrepreneurship
training.
Youth 2 Youth Zambia was established in 2013 and was officially registered in 2014 as an
operational organization created for the purpose of youth capacity development, engagement and
participation to remedy some of the stipulated challenges faced by youth; enabling them to optimize
their opportunities in employment circles, entrepreneurship and trainings, furthermore have capacity
built in life skills. The initiative is aimed to address the cross cutting issues that are muti- cultural or
cross -culture and are threating the world’s largest resource and power force for change.

The organization believes that equal opportunities, consideration and engagement are a basic
fundamental human right and that individual youths, both sexes have the right to access quality and
accurate information on citizen empowerment opportunities, entrepreneurship, cross culture issues,
cross cutting issues and life skills to enable them adapt and mitigate; and respond to the worlds
diversification and communal needs effectively and positively. Youth2Youth Zambia believes that
greatest challenge of this generation is addressing the ever challenging needs of the globe village, the
luck of skills in the out of school youths, inadequate youth mentorship and the mismatch in skills
against the competitive circle of employment, this has contributed to a lot of disparities, and has
impacted the economy, accelerated the epidemic incidences which has affected and threatened the
most essential human life.
It is undoubtedly, that this is a global challenge with multiple interlinked factors such as poverty,
environmental unsustainability, no economic equity, luck gender equality, climate change, poor
resilience, inequitable distribution of natural resources, infringement of human rights, and inequality
between and within populations. Young people have been the most affected yet constitute the larger
majority of the population in Zambia and globally. Hence, there is need for honest guidance to the
young people in promoting community development through capacity and character development,
cross- culture and cross-cutting issues based projects. The world has dynamically changed in terms of
development strategies; which are meant to improve the livelihood of the people especially in poor
communities. There must be an investment that ensures the young people are to be empowered with
knowledge to ensure they play a role that will demand government to meet their commitments towards
youth employment and Job creation.
OUR ROLE AS CIVIL SOCIETY

greater achievements through the active mobilization and engagement of young people with public
