04 THE LIVES OF OTHERS VINCENT KAMP 05VINCENT KAMP THE LIVES OF OTHERS
Subversive figurative artist VINCENT KAMP has released his second magnificent collection of canvas editions.
Vincent Kamp is not interested in the world that the majority of us see and inhabit on a daily basis. His fascination is with those parts of society that many of us never encounter – the urban subcultures that exist all around us, yet are invisible to us unless we are ourselves a part of them.
His world may be an unfamiliar one, but it grips us utterly, drawing us in with its drama, intrigue and undercurrent of danger.
His arresting portraits are built on the assumption that society will always identify with rebels and this gritty unseen world, and the spectacular reaction that greeted his first collection last summer demonstrated that there is more than a little truth in this! Alongside this success Vincent has also been awarded ‘Talented Artist of the Year 2017’ by the Talented Art Fair, which makes his first release of 2018 the most exciting yet.
His new collection is once again a reflection of some of his personal encounters with the lives of others.
As he says: “I like to paint people that you don’t always see walking down the street. They live and work outside the normal hours. You are unlikely to see these people in a suit or on an iPhone.” He seeks his muses out, moving around different areas, meeting people whose alternative lifestyles interest him both as an individual and as an artist. In terms of Kamp’s style and technique however, there is a strong
connection with a more familiar, but no less fascinating cast of characters – the virtuoso portraitists of the Dutch Golden Age including Frans Hals and Rembrandt.
Looking at these works, it is impossible to ignore their influence in the level of detail, the mastery of light and shade and the sheer power of the subject to enthral and mesmerise the viewer. In fact, his family come from Northern Holland, close to Amsterdam, and his intimate knowledge of these artists was integral to his own development.

characters. Who are they? What goes on in the moments before and after the painting?”

The Social Scene
Vincent has painted many A-list sporting celebrities including David
Millar, Liz Yelling and Paula Radcliffe and has work in the collection of Fran
Millar, manager of Team Sky, Francesco Moser and in Francesco Moser’s
museum in Trento, Italy. His most recent original painting captures the
portrait of multi-award winning singer-songwriter Sam Smith.
Sam said on his social media pages: “So honoured to receive this from sensational @vincekamp, I am such a huge fan of his work. His paintings take me to a magical place.”

LOVE WITHOUT LIMITS MACKENZIE THORPE 13
In his new collection, Mackenzie has given us two very different figurative groupings, yet all three images are inextricably linked by the idea of unconditional love.
Love for a grandchild, a grandparent, or even a pet which is unquestioning, generous and recognised by us all.
It is one of Mackenzie’s great gifts that he is able to communicate this sense of genuine love through his art, using a range of subjects, techniques, colour combinations and stories which speak to our hearts as well as to our minds.

We need no setting, no backstory, no extraneous information, because these two figures are the story in its entirety. The understanding and the
loving relationship between them is everything, and this is represented by the complete lack of background detail in the paintings. A simple, moving
but universal message is conveyed through the bold and direct yet entrancing style which is unmistakably Mackenzie.

We walk the dogEvery day
As a nation of dog lovers, so many of us are familiar with the daily battle with the elements - early morning rainstorms, freezing cold nights, wet
and windswept Sundays – and through it all, the dog trotting happily along, blissfully unaware of what we do for love! This humorous and relatable piece was really inspired by the wry connection you make when you meet another
dog walker’s eye, laughing inwardly at both them and yourself, but both of you knowing you wouldn’t have it any other way.

Both portraits are equally powerful, characterised by a vibrancy and energy that dominates the space they inhabit, and although they send out very different messages, both are genuinely extraordinary pieces of art.
Paul’s unique creative process is built on meticulous technique and many hours of demanding work. He summons each image through individually painted dots, applied freehand using a fine brush and all in a different size, shape and colour. There are no shortcuts so each composition is the hard won but triumphant result of many hours of mental, physical and creative dedication.
Paul’s art has received global acclaim from critics and collectors
in the fashion and music industries and has been hailed as some of the most style-conscious imagery to define the shifting trends of popular culture. His on-trend images of ultimate desirability and unattainable perfection have won him high profile fashion assignments including a range of portraits of supermodels Kate Moss and Agyness Deyn. His artwork for The Killers’ album Day & Age, personally commissioned by Brandon Flowers, was named ‘best album cover of the year’ by Rolling Stone Magazine.
Following a string of sell out shows and media attention both at home and as far afield as Japan, the United States and Australia, Paul has become one of the most successful artists of his generation.

Barry began to feel that basing his work purely on his local area meant he was missing out on opportunities to expand his perspective, his palette and his passion for painting the countryside. His need to move on with his work increased and he is now travelling in order to seek out inspiration for his stunning portrayals of light and landscape.
His new collection is a stunning take on the genre of landscape. Each vibrant composition has been built up in layers using a variety of tools to give a remarkable, almost ethereal feeling of depth and intensity that connects with the emotions of the viewer.
It is the atmosphere and the shading Barry is passionate about capturing in these works which do not duplicate the actual colours of the landscape, but rather convey the creative imagination of a genuine and artistic talent.

Barry says: “My work is still deceptively minimal and uncluttered. I hope to inspire those who see my work to look around them and discover the beauty of the world.
I love the vibrant and unexpected colours that appear in the British landscape. The way they change with the shifting light and passing clouds is extraordinary to see. Time and weather also play a huge part of course - sun, rain, snow, early morning and late evening mists all casting their own different hues with each time of day.”

MAKING MEMORIES DOUG HYDE 2726 DOUG HYDE MAKING MEMORIES
When Doug completed his new collection, he realised that, subconsciously, this was just what he had been doing. But while this nostalgic series takes us back to childhood pets, favourite board games and those irresistible pick ‘n’ mix jars, for Doug, they are also firmly rooted in the present. These are all elements of his childhood that he loves to recreate for his three children, as they make their own memories for the future. Featuring some familiar faces, some sticky situations, and some sweet surprises it all adds up to an unforgettable artistic experience for us too!

“On our last family holiday in Cornwall there was a Scrabble set in the cottage; we rolled back the years one evening and sat around the table playing as I am sure many people do. This evening was so nostalgic
for me and inspired this artwork.”
One piece in the collection strikes a slightly different note however. Not so much a memory as simply a timeless message,
Heart Throb has been created using dye sublimation – an extraordinary process through which solid dyes are subjected
to extreme heat, causing them to vapourise and permeate the glossy surface of a thin piece of aluminium before they
return to solid form. Because the colour infuses the metal, this sophisticated technique is superbly suited to Doug’s ‘neon’
series’, giving great clarity and a sleek glossy finish.
This vibrant and varied new series is full of memories you’ll treasure forever.

KERRY DARLINGTON BREATH OF THE WILD34
Bathed in moonlight and magic, Kerry Darlington’s dazzling new unique edition
take us to a beautifully imagined world...
With shimmering trees and snow white unicorns, where nature, legend and myth combine in a luminous dreamscape. Each of Kerry’s editions has a unique flow of its own. Using the philosophy of ‘as above, so below,’ the tree’s branches and the organic shapes formed within the roots create a beautiful flow which you can see when the light catches the painting. The editions then have a layer of resin with colour, metallics and silver leaf embellishing to unite all of these elements.
Kerry says: “Once I began to draw, stories and paintings were always
intertwined, inseparable. I have always been a dreamer and not very good with words, so art is my way of translating the cosmic knowledge that is bound to my imagination. I like to question our old ideas of reality.
We often see animals as inferior to ourselves, when in fact they are so connected to the truth and the world around us that they can be our wisest teachers when we let them. They may carry layers of ancient knowledge and lore that we had long forgotten. Knowledge that radiates from the earth, from nature and from the beings that are truly in tune with it.”
BREATH OF THE WILD KERRY DARLINGTON 35
"The unicorn keeps watch down corridors of time. The past and the future meet in the presence of the unicorn: the darkness
and light become one. The trees hold gentle branches around it; the forest pool guards its secrets....Among the silent spaces of
the trees it grows protected, nurtured by sunlight; watched over by the winds and soft footed shadows."
Josephine Bradley, author of In Pursuit of the Unicorn.

Although they are portrayed in perfect dimension, the artworks retain a sense of spontaneity and local ambience. He is one of the best architectural visualisers of our time, and he renders a spectacular portrayal of iconic locations, anonymous alleys and characterful corners with character and flair.
A highly successful architect as well as an artist, Ingo has worked for several years with the great Norman Foster (Lord Foster of Thames Bank), and this intertwining of disciplines adds symbiotic richness to both his art and his design. He sources subject matter from his direct living environment, travels and
Ingo combines his distinctive technique with the eye of an accomplished architect. Technically brilliant and wonderfully detailed, his artworks bring the world’s cities to life.
INGO ABSTRACT INTERPRETATIONS38
“My chosen subjects are universal and I hope everyone can identify with them. Each piece is spontaneous, unique in its imperfections just like me, and reflects how I speak, think and live. Every piece is a piece of myself.”
architectural studies, constantly sketching and photographing the world, and these preliminary studies form the foundation of his painting.
“The speed at which the city grows provides a fantastic field of study of the various stages of development, each particular scene only a frozen impression in time. In many respects, it is the relationship between these jigsaw pieces in the larger urban fabric that define the main subjects of my art work.”

WASHINGTON STREET CANYONOriginal Painting on Box Canvas

Ingo’s technique is unusual – even unique. He never touches the canvas directly with any tool, but pours the paint freehand onto a horizontal canvas creating denser and denser lines until finally the details emerge. Gravity and the flowing paint form the connection between his hand and the canvas in place of a brush – a ‘fluid tool’. Once drawn no line can be corrected and with exceptional coordination the artist turns the challenge of control into a liberating process.
This tension between the visual grid of our world’s most renowned buildings and the liquid flow of the line gives Ingo’s work a distinct vitality. The poured lines intertwine, widen, narrow, and as the outline emerges onto large-scale canvases it finally reveals a mesh of intricate detail that defines our’ cities familiar constructs of brick and stone, glass and steel.
Born in Germany but now living in London, Ingo has been at the forefront of contemporary architectural studies in paint since the early 1990s, and both his art and his architecture are world renowned. Over the past 22 years he has realised numerous art projects within Germany, Britain, South Africa, Australia and French Polynesia which have led to successful realisations in the United Kingdom, United Arabic Emirates and Saudi Arabia. His artwork is on display in Dubai, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, as well as across the UK and Europe.

Timmy Mallett recently had the honour of meeting Prime Minister Theresa May to talk about the inspiration behind his 2,000km solo cycling and painting trip, which will take him from Maidenhead to Santiago in Spain later this month to raise awareness for mental health.
Timmy describes this journey as ‘far and away the biggest challenge’ he has ever faced, and wants to show how everyone can reach their potential. He points to his brother Martin, who suffers from Down Syndrome and Dementia, as someone who is inspiring and says: ”Reaching your potential is doable.
We all have to be the best we can at what we do. I’m impressed by my brother, Martin, he reaches his potential every single day. “He has language difficulties, but he connects with everybody he knows.”
Timmy is cycling along the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route, painting pictures along the way. He expects the trip to take six weeks, and along the way, he will be painting anything that catches his eye. He is carrying his painting equipment with him on his bike and will send everything he paints back home, so we look forward to experiencing his journey through some beautiful impressionistic artworks!
