FINEPRINT April 2017 #371 Hastings Valley Fine Art Association Inc. PO Box 8044 Port Macquarie 2444 www.hastingsvalleyart.net.au Email : [email protected] Dates for your diary: 12 April Opening night Bonny Hills Artists @ The Surf Club 6 – 8pm 18 April Gallery Changeover 20 April 6pm-9pm Port Macquarie Artwalk CBD 23 April Artists Market in Gallery grounds 9am-1pm 21 May Slice of Haven HVFAA demo & children’s art prize 24 May Ulysses Bike club cocktail party 5.30pm gallery 6 June next general meeting gallery 1pm President’s report for April Hello Members, The Gallery is doing fine and just a reminder that the Artists Markets starts back to the Museum grounds on Sunday 23 April. Three of our members will be offering portraitures for $5.00 to the public and other members will be doing demonstration paintings. We have been informed officially from Niomi Sands from the Glasshouse that our application for another exhibition at the Regional Gallery has been successful. We haven’t the got a firm date yet but it will be between March and June next year and we are to meet with Glasshouse staff to finalize the details. Our approach was to name it either “from Then and Now” or “from Courthouse to Glasshouse”. The exhibition will reflect the 2018 Hastings Bicentenary Celebrations, we thought members could research historic material in the form of photos or literature and your art will reflect the scene in its present day form. The subject matter will be of Hastings area but not necessary townships. The Council forwarded to the HVFAA an invitation to participate in a Culture Steering Committee. Both Bernice and I have nominated to be members as it conforms with our strategic plan for future direction to make our association a permanent fixture on the Hastings Culture and Art Scene. The steering committee will provide a forum in which local government and community leaders can discuss, debate, plan and progress local and regional significant cultural events. As yet, we have not been informed whether or not we will be on the committee. Slice Of Haven will be on again on Sunday 21 May this year. We will be taking part, this will be our tenth year and again there will be the children’s art competition and demonstration paintings. Money raised from the raffle of the paintings will go towards our youth grant and I am asking members to come and give us a hand selling raffle tickets and helping Rita with the children’s art competition. Brian Barker Our members recently enjoyed the 3 day watercolour workshop at our Gallery presented by Joe Cartwright, shown here demonstrating his techniques which were projected onto the screen
