DUE$! Dues are due by our May meeting. This is your last opportunity to receive TPHC

Points for paying your dues on time. Dues are $20 per person and you can pay them at this months meeting or on line at Tulsaparrotheads.com under the “Shop” tab (look for the TPHC logo.)

One of the main benefits of paying your dues is you remain on the Tulsa Parrot Head Club email list so you will continue to receive our monthly newsletter, periodic updates, information on our events, and general news from the TPHC.DUE!

Thank You! to all those who nor-mally donate raffle gifts each month. You know who you are and we could not have our raffles without you.

We obviously did not have our monthly raffle since we all had to be in quarantine (or shelter in place as Mayor Bynum would say or safer at home as the Governor Stitt would say.) It is so sad to think we raised $0 in our April non-raffle. Hopefully everyone has the money they would have invested in the raffle stashed back for our next raffle which will be twice as big. I am sure you all can hardly wait!

Unfortunately, the April Raffle was quite LACKING!

WelcomeMembers!

Heads Up! The June Phlocking will be June 9th at a place to be named later. We will gladly collect any golf tourna-ment prizes and beer donations you want to bring to our June meeting.

We had no new members join our phlock in April. So take this opportunity, at our next meeting, to strike up a conversation with a current member that you may not have spoken with in a while. Or, just go up to an unsuspecting TPHC member and give them a great big social distancing hug!

Attitude of GratitudeThis month’s interview is with Glenda Vaughn. Submitted by Don Jones

Glenda Vaughn is a member of our club who is getting ready to practice real separation soon so it is great we got to

interview her before she and Joe leave for Colo-rado. You may not remember, but she served as our Secretary a few years ago. Here are some things you may or may not know about Glenda.

Tell us a bit about yourself. Where were you born and raised? Where did you attend School? Career and Occupation? Tell us about your family. It all began in the Claremore hospital. We lived in Catoosa at the time. We moved to Tulsa when I was five and we lived in the same house until I was twenty. I left Tulsa and returned ten years later with my husband Joe and our daughter Geneva. We have been in Tulsa for twenty-nine years in the same house that we had built and just sold. Next stop, 751 Coil Dr, Fairplay CO. Yes we are finally achieving a dream and moving to Colorado. I am a compliance analyst in the retirement plan industry and I work from home. Joe and I have been married for 32 years and we have a daughter and two sons who are all grown and have moved on..How long have you been a Parrot Head? Who or what got you involved with the Parrot Heads? My first Parrot Head encounter was the Boley Bash around ’04 or ‘05, The second was the ‘06 Phlocking at the Phort. Cathy needed company while selling beer on a hole. In ‘07, I “officially” joined the club. Slow learner, huh?How many Buffett concerts have you attended?

Which one was your favorite? I have been to five concerts. Hands down my favorite was 2nd row at Paradise Cove. What a great expe-rience.What is your favorite Buffett tune or tunes? Come Monday is one of my favorites along with One Particular Harbor, but there are many more which I really enjoy. If there was suddenly no Buffett or Trop Rock music, what type of music might we find on your playlist? You would find today’s

country music or classic rock on my playlist.Of all the TPHC activities, which one is your favorite? And why? The Boley Bash. Where else can you find lots of good people, fun activities, food out the wazoo, live music, the pool, and the shotski..So what do you like to do to chillax? Spend the weekend at the lake in our RV sitting outside watching and listening to nature. What is one or two things that most Parrot Heads probably don’t know about you? I was a student council Vice President in 9th grade and state VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America) Chap-lin my Senior year. I went to Vo-Tech and got my cosmetology license. Now for a goofy question. If you were a tree or a flower, what kind of tree or flower would you be and why? I would be an Oak tree. They are strong, deep rooted, and stand the test of time.Any closing remarks? TPHC has brought a vari-ety of people into my life that have filled me with joy, laughter, and love every time we gather. I will miss you all so much! The next time you see Glenda, make sure you give her a big hug and a big thank you for her support of the Parrot Heads club. Phins Up!

Everyone is probably growing tired of hearing about COVID-19, but many good things have happened as we observe isolation. Recon-nection with our family, fewer car accidents, and lowering the impact of emission in the environment just to name a few. Another one of those things is the joy a small group of Parrot Heads provided an Easter drive-by parade with a few of our members for Phun.

Easter is normally a time where we gather with family and friends. During quarantine, that was really hard to do. Thanks to one of our members, we figured out how to share our friendship with some of our fellow members.

Don’t worry, we practiced social distancing while still showing our members we care.

In total, twenty members (and few dogs) participated in a great Parrot Head Easter celebration. We started by

meeting in an abandoned store parking lot. It was raining so it was easy for us all to stay isolated from each other as we sat in our cars in the rain. When a police officer pulled

into the parking lot and started circling us, we decided it was time to start the parade. We pulled out of the parking lot in a caravan to visit a few of our local Parrot Head phriends.

The first stop was to see someone who normally has an Easter Egg hunt for all the neighbors in the area. Of course that event was canceled. In the absence of her annual event, she was so excited to see us drive by

her house to say hi. She gave us a big FINS UP!!!

Next, we visited another family who live close by. Boy where they surprised to see us! Again, we visited with them for a while spread out in the street in front of their house..

Our last drive by was for some members which seemed totally surprised by our visit. We all stood in their yard, social distancing of course, and visiting for a while.

WHAT A GREAT EASTER AND A PHUN TIME!!

(Please note the new start time)(Please note the new start time)WE NEED YOU’RE HELP NOW

MORE THAN EVER!!If you are new to the club, you should know everyone’s help is crit-

ical to pulling-off a successful golf tournament. Right now, we need everything from hole sponsors to silent auction baskets, prizes, and cash donations. It’s recently been a rough time for many businesses so sponsorship is down. Rather than stress out about it, let’s remember our charities will appreciate anything we do for them.

We also need help with the Golf Tournament itself. So, consider this a call for ALL Tulsa Parrot Heads to find ways to help us this year. There are plenty of opportunities to help, prior to and the day of the event. We need help collecting and transporting beverages, snacks, ice, and prizes to the golf course, as well as, setting up and tearing down tables and picking-up after the event.

Our secretary, Jan Wollenschlager, is coordinating many of these re-sponsibilities. Please contact Jan ([email protected]) to find out how you can do to help. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!

GOLF TOURNAMENT DONATION TURN-IN HAPPY HOUR!!On June 16th we will be having a Happy Hour starting at 5:00pm at Stumbling Monkey (8921 S Yale Ave.) Bring all prizes, beer, and anything else you have collected for the golf tournament.

Tulsa Parrot Heads Easter ParadeTulsa Parrot Heads Easter Parade

With COVID-19 in play donations are obviously down. We need everyone to help us find donations. Gift certifi-cates & prizes would be awesome. Your local liquor stores usually have promotional items they will donate. We also need beer. Bud Light, Bud, Miller Light, Michelob Ultra, and Coors Light are all popular brands of beer we can use. In addition, we need water and other non-alcohol dona-tions If you have a source for those. If anyone wants to volunteer to help during the tournament let Cathy or Jan know.

DO YOU NEED A ROOM?NOTICE! If you live more than a few miles from the golf

course, we recommend you stay somewhere close after the tournament. Here are a few places which are close:

Parrot Heads in Paradise have been awarding qualified par-rot heads and their children a total of $10,000 in scholarships every year for the last 11 years. Fundraising has been just keeping pace with our pay-outs each year and we want to add some additional funds to ensure future years’ have adequate funding. To make sure that we can continue to award these gifts well into the future we have come up with a great way to help that cause. Ultimate Vacations has donated a week long trip for two to raffle off this year. We will be selling tickets via PayPal or check going through October and until 2:30pm at MOTM. We will draw for the trip Saturday, October 31st from the stage at Meeting of the Minds for the eight day/seven night all-inclusive trip. Winners do not need to be present at MOTM to win the trip! Tickets are five for $20 or $5 for one. I will send you, via email, a list of your numbers so you have them for your records. I will be tracking the name and numbers of every ticket coming in and they will all be in Key West for the drawing.

You can pay via PayPal - https://www.paypal.com/home to [email protected] (Please click on the friends and family link) or send your check to David Cohen, 6986 Samantha Court Wheatfield, NY 14304 (checks payable to Parrot Heads in Paradise).
