Assistant Principal’s Report
Welcome to Week 9, another busy week for the teachers,
support staff and students.
Fire Safety Program
Thank you to Brian O’Hora, Rodger Sutton, Pip McCarney, Grant
Wilson and Ken Bevan from the Finley Rural Fire Service for
providing this great opportunity for students to learn about fire
safety in an interactive manner. Please see later in the
newsletter for photos.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
We have been implementing a consistent approach of 5 steps for supporting students with their learning and
behavior in all the classrooms. If a student continues poor choices to the 5th Step within the classroom, they
are removed to the Principal’s Office and a Reflection Sheet is filled out by the student with the Principal’s
direction. Your child’s classroom teacher will contact you to discuss the issues if this process is implemented
with your child. This Reflection sheet is sent home for you to sign and then returned to school. Behaviour goals
for the following week are set as part of the reflection process. A Goal Achievement letter will be sent home if
your child has successfully reached these goals. The Reflection sheet process has been part of the PBL process
over the past few years, however, we are bringing it into line with our goal of maintaining a consistent
approach across Kinder to Year 6.
Athletics Carnival
Big thanks to parent helpers that assisted with the running of events at the carnival. Well done to Miss Ackers
for the seamless running of the carnival. Finley Zone Carnival will be held in Finley on Wednesday 31st July,
students will be notified later this week if they have progressed to the Zone Carnival
Photos and results are later on in the newsletter.

with Jerilderie winning both debates. Thanks to Aileen Begbie for being the adjudicator assisted by Finley High
School students Jemma C and Abbey M.

presenting their arguments and won both debates. The teams will participate in further debating in Term 3.

Deniliquin North Public School this Thursday 27th June at 12pm. The match will be held at the Finley Apex Sport
and Community Centre Netball Courts. Parents and carers are welcome to come along and cheer the girls.
Paul Kelly Cup Football
The boys Paul Kelly Cup football team will head to Wagga Wagga this Friday 28th June, to compete in the
Southern NSW Paul Kelly Cup Final. We wish them all the best as they will have some tough competition.
Student Reports
Students in Kindergarten to Year 6 will bring their student report home on Monday 1st July. Your child’s
achievement and progress in class is assessed by their teacher(s) using a variety of assessment methods,
including observing students work and formal assessments.
Twice a year, teachers prepare student reports about each student’s achievement compared with the
expectations described in each of the 6 syllabuses. In Years 1-6 judgements are made on a 5 point
achievement scale using word descriptors Outstanding, High, Sound, Limited and Basic. Kindergarten are
assessed as being Above Expected Level, At Expected Level or Below Expected Level.
We ask parents to read their child’s report carefully and if you require a meeting with the classroom teacher
please contact the office.
Finally staff and students of Finley Public School, both past and present would like to congratulate Finley Lions
Club on their 50 years of service to our school and community. Our students and families have benefitted in
many ways from the variety of programs and wonderful support that Finley Lions Club have provided. We
thank you for your generous support.
Have a great week
