WHAT IS NAFL?

The original meaning of the word is “Bounty”

Also known as تطوع

IMPORTANCE

They are prayed to make up for any deficiencies left in the Fardh

prayer

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SUNNAH AND NAFL

Sunnah prayers are higher in status than Nafl

Nafl prayers are the extra that you can pray in permitted times

Sunnah prayers are of 2 types

TYPES OF SUNNAH

Confirmed Sunnah

Non-confirmed Sunnah

CONFIRMED SUNNAH2 before Fajr

4 before Zuhr, and 2 after

2 After Maghreb

2 After Isha

NON-CONFIRMED SUNNAH

2 after Zuhr*/ 4 after Friday 4 before Asr

2 before Maghreb 2 before Isha

Whoever prays 12 rakah in a day will have a house built for him in

paradise

CONFIRMED SUNNAH

The Prophet of Allaah never left praying 2 before Fajr and 4 before Zuhr under any circumstance –Ahmed and alBukhari)

Sometimes the Prophet prayed 2/4 before Zuhr (house/masjed)

CONFIRMED SUNNAH

If the Prophet of Allaah missed his Sunnah, he’d pray them afterwards

Surahs to recite in Fajr and Maghreb Sunnah

NON-CONFIRMED SUNNAH

The Prophet of Allah told people to pray before Maghreb…. For whoever wished to do so

Between every adhan and the iqamah, there is a prayer for…

Solar and lunar eclipse prayerIt is a stressed Sunnah

Also preferred to make takbir, give sadaqah, and seek Allaah’s forgiveness during the

eclipseThe reciting of al-Fatihah is obligatory in each rak'ah, and one may recite whatever one wishes

to, after Al-Fatihah. It is allowed to make the recital audible or silent.

SALATUL ISTISQA

Performed when supplicating to Allaah for rain during the times of drought

-1- The imam prays, with the followers, two rak'at during any time except those times in which it is not desirable to pray.

-2- The supplication for rain can also be made on the occasion of Salatul Jumuah. In

this case, the imam makes supplications during Khutbatu al-Jumuah with the people

of the congregation saying (Ameen).

-3- One may also make a supplication (for rain) without it being Friday and

regardless of whether or not the prayer takes place inside or outside the mosque.
