INTRODUCTION
FIRE RATED DOORS GROUP 2
Fire rated doors and frames play a vital role in keeping people safe and minimizing property damage during a fire.
•Doors
•Door frames
•Hardware
•Transoms
•Sidelights
•Glazing
Doors can play a pivotal role when it comes to
safety. The main function of these doorways
is to block again hearth and smoke in among
compartments or hearth ignition area. This is
to support people help escape on their own
from the influenced spot safely.
Many components of a door assembly can be rated to withstand fire for a specified period of time.
A few of the components include:
FIRE RATING
FIRE RATED DOORS GROUP 2
FIRE RATING• The fire resistance is the time duration the
member or assembly can withstand the fire
test without failure.
• A 1hr. rating indicates that the
assembly/member can withstand the
standard test for minimum 1 hr. without
failure by any one of the failure criteria
listed in the fire test protocol i.e. stability.
Integrity and Insulation.
TEMPERATURE RISE DOORS• Temperature rise doors minimize the
transfer of heat to the cooler side of the
door.
• These doors are commonly found in
stairwells of high-rise buildings because
they allow people to safely pass below
the floors with fire.

Maintenance & Care
It is important to keep the panel clean.
A soft, clean, non-abrasive cloth and a mild soap or non-abrasive window cleaning solution is suitable for cleaning.
After cleaning, rinse immediately with clean water and remove any excess water from the panel surface.
Also, do not allow any metal or hard parts of the cleaning equipment to come in contact with the panel surface.
Storage & Handling
It should be stored in dry
conditions only and needs to be
stacked upright or at a slight angle.
The panels must be separated by
an appropriate material, such as
soft pads made of cork and the
bottom edge must be supported
along its entire length.
• Types of fire rated hardware include: –Hinges –Pivots –Locks –Closers
• Gasketing materials must be efficient so that their installation does not adversely affect the fire resistance performance of the assembly.

FIRE RATED PAINT1. Clean the surface of rust, grease, dust etc.
2. Apply one coat of base coat anti-corrosive fire retardant primer on dry surface.
3. Apply multiple coat of top coat by brush/spray. Allow it to dry for approximately 4-6 hours. Overcoat in multiple coats allowing approx 8 hours time interval between each coat and build up layers. Apply The Top coat colored , if required.
4. Coating thickness can be achieved in 3-4 coats.
5. Thinner for thinning (if required) & for cleaning brush/equipment
A properly sized closing device is the last of the “basic” fire door hardware requirements. A fire door must be in a closed and latched in position to serve as a protective barrier in the event of a fire. For this reason, either spring hinges or a listed door closer is
required. When the door is closed, the closer should serve its role as a protective device.
Properties: • High temperature silicone.
Self-extinguishing and non-toxic. • Longest-lasting commercial grade door seal.
Seals against smoke, fire, air, sound and weather. Unaffected by sunlight, ozone and ultraviolet rays. Impervious to fungus and mildew. Available in 18, 20, 21 and 24 ft. coils.

FIRE DOOR FRAMES• Frames used in masonry walls may be used with a maximum 3-
hour fire door, while frames used in drywall stud walls are
intended to be used with a maximum 1-1.5 hour fire door.
• Grout is not required for fire rated frames installed in either
drywall or masonry walls at any hourly rating.

SIDELIGHTS AND TRANSOMS FRAMES
• Sidelights are treated differently than
transom frames.
• Sidelights are available only up to 1 ½ hours
• Transom frames can carry up to a 3 hour
label, just like 3-sided frames

reinforcement with tapped holes welded to the
frames.
Mortar Guard: 1.2 mm thick steel plaster guard
or mortar guard is provided at the back of all
hardware cutouts in the frame.

ANCHORING AND FIXING DETAILS
FIRE RATED DOORS GROUP 2
Tee-Anchoring: First fix provides maximum engagement
into the constructed wall, with slip-on anchors made out
of galvanised steel.
Expansion Anchors: Used in masonry openings or finished
plastered openings. The frames are bolted to the clear
opening with 8 mm expansion anchors. Screws are rested
on the backplate.
Bolted Anchors: Frames fixed on 'C' Channel are bolted
directly on to the back plate.
Honeycomb Kraft paper:
• enhances the structural integrity of the doors with minimal additional weight to the
door.
• high crushing strength leading to impact resistance.
• The quality and consistent flat surface achieved.
INFILLS
FIRE RATED DOORS GROUP 2
Steel Stiffened Doors
• Used for exterior applications, these doors are known for their rigidity
• Spacing between stiffeners may vary from 4” to 6”.
• They are welded to each other at the top and bottom and to the inside door skin.
• The cavities are filled with special core.
Polyurethane Foam:
• provides complete surface support, impact resistance and exceptional thermal
resistance.
• It offers the lowest “U” value (approx. 0.09) and the highest “R” factor (approx. 11.1).
• This core has certain limitations on application and fire rating of the doors.
Fire tests must be performed by an independent, internationally recognized laboratory.
There are 2 two portions of the test.
• The first is the fire test. An operable door assembly is installed in front of a furnace and exposed to fire for a specified time. As the test progresses, the temperature is steadily increased to simulate the conditions of a real fire. The temperature and pressure of the door are monitored.
• The second is the hose stream test. Once the fire test is complete, the door is sprayed with cold water. The opening must stay secure.
FIRE TESTS
FIRE RATED DOORS GROUP 2
Fire Doors are governed by following specifications:-• BS476 Part 20 & 22 - Fire Test on Building Materials and
Structures.• ISO 834 - Fire Resistance Test Elements of Building
