    Let It Snow!

As winters rain falls to the ground, many battles

take place on grassy plains surrounded by trees in

their full green colors. Yes, in the grim darkness of the far

future there is only summer! By the end of this article,

your miniatures will be marching through snow covered

battlefields trying to assault the enemy over dead trees

and frozen waterways. Im sure your troops will love you

    for it.

The rst order of business is the table top itself. I assume most

of you reading this have some sort of a playing surface, be it thedinner table or an actual game table. If not, go to your nearesthome improvement store and buy yourself a 6x4 ft. polystyrenepanel. You knowthat pink/blue/white insulation stuff. Now thatyou have your selected surface in place, we can begin.

To limit your trips to thecraft store, heres a list ofgeneric supplies that youwill need:

    - Snow mat/roll:These rolls are usuallymade from some typeof stretchable ber clothand sometimes have thedreaded glitter to makethem extra sparkly.Remember to get enoughto cover your entiretable.

    - Snow scatter: The range on this varies. From GamesWorkshopand Woodland Scenics ock, to small shredded plastic uff, yourebound to nd something to your liking.

    - Winter trees: Again the range on this varies. If you haveyour own summer trees, you can simply throw snow scatter overthem.

    - Small Styrofoam balls: For the trees which Ill talk aboutlater.

    - Transparency paper: You probably have to go to an ofcesupplies store for this stuff. Its the see through paper used onoverhead projectors.

    1. Prep your game table. Take a vacuum and clean off all theextra sand, chips of paint, etc to prevent them from getting stuckto your snow roll. Remove all moveable scenery as well.

  • 8/12/2019 Firebase Issue 03

    5/100

    5Firebase issue 3 March 2007

    2. Cover your entire table with the snow mat/roll. If you wantto add hills, simply slide a few magazines or some cut polystyreneunderneath. To secure the roll to your table, you can either tape ortack it to the surface.

    3. Cut some oval-esque shapes out of the transparency paperto form frozen ponds, lakes etc. By cutting and combining severalsheets of paper, you can even create a frozen river running through

the entire table! Once you lay your frozen water on the surface, apply some snow scatter to the banks in order to break up theoutline.

    4. Apply the snow scatter over the entire surface to add texture. It is perfectly alright to sing some holiday/winter songs while doing

so too. You can easily create snow banks by adding more andmore scatter to certain areas. Word of advice: keep it awayfrom the edges of the table so that a) it doesnt fall on theoor and b) it doesnt get on your clothes.

    Flock with troops and vehicles:

    5. Once you have the ock down, you can add your trees.Sometimes trees will come with a at base so that they canstand upright. Others just have a metal wire at the bottom tobe pinned. This is where the Styrofoam balls come in. Cutone in half, stick a tree through it and youre done! Instantat base that matches the surroundings!

    6. If theres anything else youd like to add in, do it now.

I actually bought a small light up Christmas tree to use as anobjective.

    7. And youre done! That was easy wasnt it? You now havea new gaming surface which was relatively cheap to make andis completely removable.

    interview

    BACK INBLACK

Ashley Curtis interviews Adam Smith and AdamParkhouse over an amazing space crusade era chaosmarine army. Old skool is definitely still very cool.

FB: So Mr Smith, what started you on this course of chaos inducedmadness?

Smith: It all began when I picked up space crusade on eBay. Iopened her up and felt all jiggly inside like I had done when I was awee nipper (about 7) and was suddenly blown away by the qualityof the chaos marines and the old dreadnought. Unlike the blobby

space marines they were as awesome as I remembered and thatsparked the idea for an entire army.

FB: Hence the whole army is based on some real classic models. What did you pick up after that?

Smith: Next came the nightmarish task of getting all the oldchaos stuff. Over the course of 6 months I lost count of how much

money I spent bidding on eBay for individual models, whole squads, dreadnoughts and sometimes complete sets to get everything Iwanted. After numerous ravaged Space Crusade boxes and a wholelot of bidding I got the army together.

FB: I suppose its testament to just what you can pick up on eBay.What was the inspiration for the HQ of your force?

Smith: This is where the old skool element comes in. Way back in2nd edition there were no chaos lord models apart from the specialcharacters. I fondly remember everyone converting existing space

marine characters. I knew I wanted someone witha kai gun and thats where Tycho came in. He had abig gun, so that did the trick.

FB: Did the models come rst when putting thearmy together, or was it a list then seeing whattted?

Smith: I came up with the list rst, but it wasrestricted to what models came in Space Crusade.Namely dreadnoughts, small dreadnoughts, chaosmarines and chaos androids.

FB: How do your represent all these weird andwonderful models on the battleeld?

Smith: The big dreadnoughts are chaosdreadnoughts with twin-linked lascannon and missilelauncher while the little dreadnoughts representobliterators. The chaos marines are obviously chaos

marines, while the chaos androids Im using as achosen squad with 3 autocannons and the tankhunter skill. They can always become havocs as thearmy expands.

FB: How effectivehave you found thearmy?

Parkhouse: Have youeven played with it?

Smith: UmmI mustconfess that I haventtried it out yet, butits packing enoughlow AP and anti tankweaponry to give mymates dark angelsarmy a damn goodkicking! Not that Idever tailor my army,no sir.

FB: It certainly sounds like a repower force to be reckonedwith! What were the decisions made regarding the painting of theforce?

Smith: After painting a handful of chaos cultists a few monthsback I liked their colour scheme so much that I applied it to myarmy. Purple, black and gold just looks great together and I fell inlove with wooden stocks on my guns. I guess theyre black legionor something. But best of all, I only had to paint one of them beforehanding the army over to Mr Parkhouse here.

FB: I was just about to ask where Mr Parkhouse tted in to this. How did you feel taking the project over from Adam?

Parkhouse: Nice model it was by the way.

    Smith: Cheers.

  • 8/12/2019 Firebase Issue 03

    9/1009Firebase issue 3 March 2007

Parkhouse: Well, originally, it all came about through me trying tostart some sort of painting service online. After a couple of emails, exchanging photos and such, I felt it would be a fun challenge. Atrst though, Ill admit, I thought I was getting paid....

    Smith: That sounds so negative!

Parkhouse: At rst, it was about the money, being a student andall, but then I started to get stuck into the painting, and was keento get cracking. I think Adam was a bit shocked at the speed I gotpainting after receiving the models.

Smith: The mans a painting machine! But even his enthusiasmdidnt stop him demanding payment.

    Parkhouse: A mans gotta eat...

Smith: I ended up bartering my lovely red necron army (see issue1!) for his services. Yummy green transparent plastic for you!

FB: You have both helped put together an immensely cool army.Do you usually nd yourselves turning to the more classic style of40k from previous eras than the current incarnation?

    Smith: You rst dude.

Parkhouse: Cheers! In terms of eras of 40k, Im not so sure. Ialways get lost in what I actually want to get done. So it helps to begiven a nice frame to work in. The scheme was fun, although after50 models or so you can get bored of painting bone and purple. The balance is nding a scheme that is both easy to do and variedenough to not get fed up with I guess.

FB: I can sympathise with that statement. Smith?

Smith: Now I love the old skool stuff and go all misty eyed wheneverI see even a brand new model painted in a classic scheme. Theressomething special about the old models and paint schemes. I guessits all the mental associations with playing my rst few games ofspace hulk and 2nd edition 40K. I sort of prefer how chaos used

to be very organic and Giger-esque rather than the archaic gothic

    spikiness wehave today.

    Parkhouse:One thingI will addt h o u g h ,is that Ithink mydetachmentfrom 40k(p r imar i l y

playing fantasy), means that Ican appreciate things without thehindrance of uff. So I can approachthings from a visual point of viewin painting terms, and not be heldback by worrying if this chaos staris on the right backpack vent orwhatever!

FB: Thanks guys. Where doesthis army lead you to next?

Smith: Well, the army is beingexpanded. Ive decided to go

a little chaos crazy with moresquads, tanks and stuff. All inthe old skool style of course. Thismeans beastmen, cultists, lemanrusses, original space marinepredators, converted delers andmore squads of chaos marines. Itshould be very impressive whenits all done and guess who gets topaint it? *Big grin*

FB: Whats your next project Mr Parkhouse? -After the huge listthat Mr Smith has in store by the sounds of it!

Parkhouse: I know, its stopping me from sleeping some nights!Next on the list? Where to begin? Hopefully (awaiting the arrival ofthe models) Ill be doing a large praetorian imperial guard army andall manner of blood bowl teams. Hopefully Ill be getting back to myork army and my own khorne army for 40k, which is serious needof some TLC, or should that be blood, sweat, and tears? Whateverkhorne prefers I guess!

  • 8/12/2019 Firebase Issue 03

    11/10011Firebase issue 3 March 2007

FB: It certainly looks like there will be plenty to go round! Thanks for theinterview guys. On a nal note, with a lot of talk recently about what peoplewould like to see in the 4th Edition chaos codex, what would be the numberone thing on the top of your list?

    Smith: *Scratches chin in contemplation*

Parkhouse: *looks over at Adam*A re-release of the older models?

Smith: It wont happen, but Id love to see chaos androids again. Thatspurely selsh though because androids are long dead in the background.

Parkhouse: Are you bracing yourself for a barrage of kids asking you whyyou have necrons in your army?

Smith: I dont play with kids, so Im not worried about being asked aboutmy necron chaos droid thingies.

Smith: Back to the question! -Im not really fussed about new models, butId appreciate if all the chaos rules for absolutely everything were thrown

into one massive pulsating book of daemonic doom like in2nd edition. I still have my chaos codex from back then andhow I love it so! Its my...precioussssssssss.

what should i put here mr. smith?

    LegendaryLunchtimes

Adam Smith gets all blurry eyed as we travel backin time to the old school days and the lunchtimewargames club where you had just 1 hour to get in your

    vital dose of daily carnage.

Pimples, dice and badly painted miniatures. Im sure we allremember playing with an assortment of half painted modelsthat look like they were dunked in paint. We hadnt even heardof drybrushing back then, apart from the one kid with stunningminiatures and thats because his dad had painted them for him.I often wonder just how we managed to cram a whole game intoone lunchtime and that was back in second edition when thingstook twice as long.

Ill never forget the great race we had where we lined all ourtanks along the starting line and made a track by moving all theschool desks around in a gure of eight pattern. Of course, noone actually made it to the rst corner. Wed blown each other upby then, apart from the one Ravenwing land speeder that no onecould ever seem to hit which zoomed off out of range early on.

The biggest lunchtime success was the royal rumble tank battle. This had been organised by one of the older lads and had all theelements that everybody loved tanks and killing! Everyone had atime limit to play their turn. Run out of time and its on to the nextplayer. I believe it went a little something like this

    LAST TANK STANDING

Get a large playing area, preferably 6x4 feet, assemble yourplayers and divide 60 minutes equally over 6 turns. So if you have10 players, to accommodate 6 turns each (it could happen) youllhave to allocate 1 minute per turn. Get that stop clock at the ready. This will keep the action fast and furious. If a player runs out oftime mid roll, or theyre about to penetrate a tank, its tough luck

and on to the next player.

There never used to be any terrain, what with playing on a coupleof school desks, but how much terrain you have is entirely up toyou. It does slow down playing speed though.

Setting up can get a little bit tricky too. Get everyone round thetable. They have 1 minute to place their tank anywhere they likeand they do it all at the same time! Once a tank has touched thetabletop, thats it, it has to go there, facing that direction. If theyrun out of time, thats it, theyre not playing.

If youve got the time (and you probably wont) you can let theplayers with the lowest front armour value go rst, but if you dont, simply get everyone to roll a D6. Highest roller goes rst, followedby everyone to their right.

The game runs for 6 turns. If there is no winner at the end, thenalists ght it out between themselves another game. The lastvehicle standing is the winner. Give that player a Mars bar or otherculinary delight -They earned it.

AR E YOU R EADY TO RU MBL E?

We swept the terrain from our rather rocky looking gamingboards and hastily plonked down six vehicles for six players. Letthe carnage commence!

    ME ET T H E CON T EN D ERS

    1: DARKANGELSLANDRAIDER

Twin linked lascannon sponsons, twin linked heavy bolter in thehull, smoke launchers, extra armour and power of the machinespirit.

James: Witharmour 14 allround I wouldnthave to worryabout any sideor rear armourshots, but at thesame time, thismakes me aninviting target foreveryone on thetable because I

have the mostanti tank gunsand the mostarmour.

    2: THOUSANDSONSCHAOSPREDATOR

Twin linked lascannon turret, heavy bolter sponsons, smokelaunchers and extra armour.

Phil: I wasnt hugely condent about this one. Normally Im ableto hide my side armour while maximising the front armour 13. Ivegot a twin lascannon for the big things and heavy bolters for softerside and rear armour. Hopefully more shots will do the trick.

    3: BLACKLEGIONCHAOSDREADNOUGHT

Twin linked lascannon, missile launcher, smokelaunchers and daemonicpossession.

Adam: Time to take mynew shiny dreadnoughtout for its rst doseof slaughter. Maybeit wasnt such a greatidea, because everyonewill want to blow himoff the board because

hes my new toy. Ivegot him tooled up forlong range shooting,so all I have to do is sittight, look vaguely nonthreatening and pray forre frenzy.

    4: IMPERIALGUARDSENTINEL

Lascannon, hunter killer missile, smokelaunchers and extra armour

Luke: A little walker in a world of bigtanks. With a measly armour value of10 all round, even a slight breeze couldsend my walker bursting into ames. Butthen again, as puny and non-threateningas the sentinel may be, a lucky hit couldsend even the land raider into oblivion.Time to cross my ngers, hide, and praythat Im ignored long enough to grab alast minute win.

    5: TAUHAMMER HEAD

Railgun, smart missile system, targeting array, multitracker, target lock, decoy launchers

Simon: With the biggest gun in the game all will fear me! Theonly downside is that theyre more likely to send my hi-tech craftcrashing to the ground. Ill just have to keep moving at full speedand try my best to keep my front armour of 13 facing all threats.

    6: IMPERIALGUARDDEMOLISHER

Demolisher cannon in the hull, two plasma cannon sponsons,

lascannon turret, extra armour and smoke launchers.

Joel: Land raider, Im looking at you! Everyone knows that theguard cant hit to save their lives (and thats why they die in droves),but if I can get in range, sit still, re the big strength 10 demolishercannon and land it on the big vehicles on the board, then I couldwin this through sheer brutality. Weve got the guns, weve got thearmour, lets go get em!

    SET UP

In a mad scramble all the tanks were quickly set up, oddlyequidistant around the board.

The land raider took bottom right, the chaos dreadnought bottomleft, the sentinel bravely wound up in the centre left side oppositethe chaos predator, while the demolisher took the top left cornerwith the hammerhead opposite, obscured by a generous helpingof cliff.

Everyone rolls a D6 to see who goes rst!

    TURN 1

The chaos dreadnought wins the roll and opens re on the landraider opposite, but the guns bounce off its mighty 14 armour.

Next its the land raiders turn and we all know what James isgoing to shoot at -Adams pretty new chaos dreadnought! Aftermoving forward, the land raider hits nothing but air.

  • 8/12/2019 Firebase Issue 03

    15/10015Firebase issue 3 March 2007

Phil turns his chaos predator away from the sentinel, hammerheadand demolisher to take a shot at the land raider, which bounces offharmlessly. At least the hammerhead should go for the demolisherand that sentinel is too puny to do muchhopefully.

Simon grins, seeing an opportune moment for multi-kill! Thehammerhead swoops out from behind the rocks to hit the chaos

predator in therear armourwith its smartmissile system, penetrating it twiceand destroying it ina ery explosion. It then turns it railgun on that poorhelpless sentinel, but thankfullymisses.

The demolisherrumbles forward12 and res itssmoke launchers,

then patiently waits for thenext turn. The sentinel movesaway from the demolisher, down the board while lettingloose with everything its gotat the hammerhead and missespathetically. Thats imperialguard shooting for you!

    TURN 2

Adam rolls for his chaos dreadnought being crazy and it promptlystomps screaming torwards the sentinel. That wasnt the best thingit could have done

The land raider targets the out of control chaos dreadnought, blowing it apart andsending it back to the

    hell from whence itcame!

The hammerheadinevitably targetsthe demolisher andpunches right throughits front armourand rolls a 6 on theglancing hit table, destroying it. Nobodycan argue with thegodlike repower ofthe Tau Empire!

Its over to thesentinel which targetsthe land raider. Timefor some glory!cries Luke, but to hisdisgust, the one eyedpilot misses again.

    TURN 3The land raider

moves around thewreckage of the chaospredator to target thehammerhead, butthe shot deects off

Simon performs the coup de gras by cruising into themiddle of the board and opening re on the sentinel with its

smart missile system, while targeting the land raider with itsrail gun. Once the dust clears, two smoking wrecks remain, leaving the hammerhead victor of the battle.

Adam: How long did that take?

    James: About ten minutes.

Gerard: Want to play again? Ill be the hammerhead!

    TIME TO DIE

Some might argue that this takes geekyness to

horrifying new heights. I mean, whats worse than

colouring your dice to match your army scheme? But thenI came across a player who changed all of that.

It was my rst opponent in a tournament setting and while Imopped the oor with him, he suggested that I throw a variety ofcoloured dice at the same time to speed up the game and spendmore time in the bar. I liked the sound of this!

So when my six man strong Deathwing terminator squad opened upon his plague marines (who seemed to die like imperial guardsmen),

I had 4 red dice for the assault cannon, 10 white dice for the stormbolters and a single black dice for the cyclone launchers krak missile.Resolving what would have been three separate sets of rolling injust one session really cut down on playing time and that was when

I bought my rst setof coloured dice froma role playing shopround the corner (upthe highroad and thensome). My little boxof special DeathwingDice came with meto every game and ohhow they served mewellwhen they rolledhigh of course.

Then another fellow decidedto take his dice to the nextlevel -the ultimate level! Hegave Chessex, renowned dice

makers, an email and askedabout how much a set of fullycustomised dice would costhim. For such a small orderChessex, like any company, were ready to charge the pants offhim, but thats when David had an idea. He chose to approach allthe other Deathwing players he knew and offered them in on thedice deal, thereby saving his pants and sharing his novelty dicedesign with everyone.

Im now the proud owner of 10 rather fetching novelty dice thatreplaced the gold dice Id been using for my storm bolter shots

before. Ive also managed to cram in a couple of small blue dice touse when my Librarian casts his psychic powers.

Customising your playing dice can go a long way to improvingyour game and speeding up the action, so the next time yourewalking past your local hobby shop, take a step inside and see whatkind of dice they have on offer. Youll be amazed when you cut yourplaying time in half, leaving you plenty of opportunities for thatswift half down the pub.

    AnInquisitorsJobis NeverDone

Its a dirty job being an Inquisitor, but someones gotta

    do it.

It was many moons ago when I found myself idly searching throughthe science ction and fantasy section of my local library, only tocome across a most familiar word. As an impressionable youth Iwasnt expecting to nd the name of my hobby with toy soldierson the spine of a proper book of high culture. I was looking at ahardbound edition of Harlequin by Ian Watson and there, proudlydisplayed, not just on the spine of the book but in big font on the

cover were the words Warhammer 40,000. This being in the daysbefore the Black Library imprint, I didnt know any real books hadbeen written about our rich universe. So quickly I ferreted it downto the issues desk and hurried home to indulge myself in a worldof background material I had barely been exposed to. It may bebecause it was the rst real piece of 40K writing that I read, mylove of intrigue and conspiracies, or it may be Watsons masterfulwriting, but I fell in love with the concept of the Inquisition. At thetime it didnt matter to me that Harlequin was the second book ina trilogy. The lack of complete knowledge of the whole story onlyhelped to build the mystery behind this most august of institutions.

Warhammer 40,000 is an interactive universe and every timeyou make an army list and name a character you are adding tothat universe and the conspiracy theories really exemplify thisinteractivity. Conspiracy and intrigue is at the heart of the 40Kuniverse, and the Inquisition is at the heart of the conspiracies.

I knew right away that I wanted my very own Inquisitor. Thuswas born Inquisitor Corai. He started life as a character in aroleplaying game with a system born of a hybrid between Travelerand Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. Corai was a secretive Inquisitor, who disguised himself as a guardsman to spy on the rest of the

group. This was as far as his background went and sadly was allthat was necessary for our youthful, hack n slash approach torole-playing. There Corai stayed for a few years, appearing as adoodle in the margin of my notebook and eventually becomingmy internet handle until Games Workshop released the game Ithought Id been waiting for Inquisitor. I knew the models werebreath taking and immediately saw my chance to play with Corai ina miniature wargame. Much as I love to role-play, playing with toysoldiers will always be my rst love. Suddenly Corai was no longera loner. To work in an Inquisitor Campaign he was going to needallies -a whole warband. The gears in my head started turning ina vain attempt to create a warband that was anything more thana facsimile of Jaq Dracos followers. Thankfully, by the time themodels were released, Id rened the ideas a little.

Inquisitor Corai was starting to become a real force in thebackground of my 40K armies as well. Id even gone so far asto make a model of the Inquisitor, using the basic rules from the3rd edition rulebook to eld him in my games. Finally, Codex:Daemonhunters was released, giving me the kick start to build a

new inquisitor model and render all his 54mm allies in 28mm form. Now, a few years on, thanks to the Daemonhunters allies rules, itsrare that I play a game of 40K without elding Inquisitor Corai (andwhen I dont, its usually because Im elding one of his nefariousenemies!)

So why would you want to include an Inquisitor in your games?Their stats arent bad, but besides allowing you to eld Assassinsor used in the infamous re-team pattern, your average spacemarine player would argue theres not a lot to offer there. But Idisagree. Aside from the frankly scary amount of psycannon andheavy bolter re they can bring to bear, the best thing about the

Inquisitor character in games of Warhammer 40000 is a way foryou to include your own, home made special character in yourgames. Whatever your opinion of special character rules may be,who can deny the sense of gravitas their presence gives games. Forthis sense of character to come across, I nd you need to start withthe uff and work outwards. Sure, you can use clever backgroundto justify why the psycannon toting inquisitor is accompanied bythree walking heavy bolters at all times, but I like to nd modelsand rules for characters I have created, not the other way around. For the purposes of demonstration, I will use Inquisitor Corai as

an example in my guide to creating a characterful inquisitor forincluding in your games of Warhammer 40000.

    ST E P 1: TH ECONCEPT

The rst and most important step is to work out the backgroundand history of your inquisitor. What Ordo does he belong to?Which belief system does he subscribe to? Is he a Thorian? AMonodominant? Is he fanatical or pragmatic? Maybe hes a fullyedged radical! How does he like to undertake an investigation?Does he roll in throwing his weight around or slip in under theradar, only revealing his true identity when an investigation comesto a close? How old are they? Where did they grow up? All thesethings can greatly inuence the character.

Inquisitor Corai knows very littleabout his past. Although he appearsto be little older than 40 standard,

various rejuvinat treatments maskhis true age even from himself. He knows for sure that at somepoint in his early career within theInquisition he was mind wiped andre-educated, becoming the manhe is today. His earliest memoriesare of being assigned to the staffof Inquisitor Ezekiel Guntz. Alreadya member of the Ordo Malleus,Corai was acting undercover, at thebehest of his masters, to discover

whether the veteran InquisitorGuntz had become unsound. Sureenough, Corai discovered thatGuntz had been treading a neline in his crusade against chaos, not least amongst which was adaemonhost within his employ.Rather than reporting Guntz, Coraiwas won over to his pragmatic wayof thinking. He revealed himselfto Guntz and lled a false report

with the Inqusition. Since then he has continued Ezekiel Guntzspragmatic ideals and subterfuge in his own work, although hisfailure to produce the damming evidence his superiors wantedhas left him often out of favour with the Ordo Malleus.

ST EP 2: EQUIP YOU RINQUISITOR

What equipment is your inquisitor likely tocarry on them? Do they like to be a walkingarsenal, or would they rather let their followersdo the ghting? Are they psykers? If not, do theysympathize with psykers or abhor the witches?Theres no need to delineate equipping acharacter usefully and characterfully. After all,if your Inquisitor plays no role in a battle, youwont remember his actions. Im not suggestingyou deliberately give your beloved characterbad wargear, just that he gets appropriate and

characterful wargear. Treat your Inquisitor likethe special character he is. Wed all love to seeEldrad Ulthran or Commisar Yarrick stridingacross the battleeld in terminator armour, but its just not very tting for them!

Inquisitor Corai favors stealth and subterfuge over face toface confrontation. That being said, when the time comes, he isnot above taking the ght the enemies of the Imperium. Coraiis a spectacularly gifted marksman, but often substitutes therange of a rie with the concealability of a pistol. Overall, Coraiwould describe himself as primarily a detective, not a soldier.

Obviously, games of Warhammer 40,000 are representingbattles, not investigations. So when Corai marches to warwith one of my armies, he will take the necessary equipment. For example, whilst any form of armour bulkier than a bodyglove may be bad for an undercover investigation, he is notabove donning protection when acting as part of a battle.

Inquisitor Corai is represented in the game using the following:an Ordo Malleus Inquisitor Lord with Emperors Tarot; mastercrafted bolt pistol with psycannon bolts and a null rod.

    ST E P 3: FOL L OWERS

It is a lonely Inquisitor indeed who exists in isolation. Evensome of the most solitary inquisitors will surround themselves withsomeone they can trust. If not by choice, then at the behest ofthe Inquisition in the form of an Interrogator in need of training. What are the stories of these characters? Does your inquisitor trustthem? What is his or her relationship with them? How did they meetthem? With each follower you are creating another character asdense as your inquisitor, making you care about every model in hisretinue.

Of the many accomplices Inquisitor Corai has had through hiscareer, there are four individuals which stand out. It is rare thatyou will nd him working a case without at least one of these menby his side, if not all of them.

    CAPTAINFERRENTRAULTZ

Corai rst met Ferren Traultz when he was investigating

Ezekiel Guntz. Guntz had employed Traultz for a few years atthis point. Hailing from a non-descript world on the edge ofthe Segmentum Solar, Ferren Traultz is a gifted pilot and it isin this capacity that he was hired by Inquisitor Guntz. WhenCorai revealed his true identity and left the warband of Guntz,Capatin Traultz followed him, a bond of friendship having beennurtured when he thought of them as equals. Having stuckby his side through all tribulations, Captain Traultz remainsCorais personal pilot, even going so far as to undergo a mind

impulse unit link up with the Inqusitors starship The Swordof Angar. Ferren is now an elderly man, but still insists onbeing on the front line of investigations, often taking the roleof wealthy merchant, with Corai masquerading as his aideor bodyguard. When on a planets surface, Ferrens mostuseful ability is his remote link with the ship, allowing directaccess to long range sensors and communication equipment. In game, Ferren Traultz is represented using the following:Henchman sage. In games where Daemonhunters are themain army, Ferren will also be represented as a lance strike, representing his remote link to the Sword of Angar.

    INTERROGATORDANTEFROST:

Dante Frost is dangerous. He rst came to Corais attentionas a junior Interrogator, apprenticed to Inquisitor Rosencrantz,a one time ally of Corai. Rosencrantz and his entire staff cameto an unfortunate end whilst on assignment deep undercover.Frost was the only survivor. Frost was terried of psychicinterrogation by the Inquisition, believing he would be set up

as a scapegoat to take the fall for his masters death. To tryand counter this, he took an overdose of the narcotic Spook.Already a sigma level psyker, the drug boosted his skills abovehis ability to handle. The physical effects were temporary butthe mental ones were far more scarring. Frost developed anaddiction to the drug, and the psychic boost it brought. Coraitook the Interrogator under his wing and attempted to helphim combat his addiction. Frost never truly learned to battlethe addiction, it slowly eroding his sanity. Unwilling to disposeof such a valuable psychic resource, Corai hid Dantes powerand still employs his psychic might when necessary. A decisionhe questions every day. Now, Dante is seen walking hunched,

a null rod clasped in his hands, limiting his psychic power untilthe time when Corai needs him at his most powerful. With aword, the null rod is deactivated, the stimm injector on his armdischarges a dose of Spook and Dante Frosts mind sails free ofhis husk like form. In game, Dante Frost is represented usingthe following: Daemonhost. Dante takes little part in the battleuntil his powers are unleashed, represented by the deep strikeability. The relative unpredictability and shear psychic mightof the empowered Dante is adequately represented by theDamemonhost, as is the grey knights refusal to work with him.

    HIS DEVOUT INQUISITION

Mike:Well this is interesting. My mechanized inquisitorial stormtrooper army has found itself ambushed in a city and without theirtrusty rhinos. Whats even worse, the attacking army is a hoard ofsoulless Necrons bent on taking over the universe! They denitelywerent expecting that!

The mission we are playing is Grand Assault from the Citiesof Death Codex. After the initial ambush, my troopers abandonedtheir transports for the ruins around them. The necrons are nowtrying to root them out building by building. The inquisition, havingno choice, must defend at all costs. Pretty straight-forward right?

After youve read my army list you are probably ready to hit meover the head: Throne on earth! A Daemonhunters army with noinducted guard, allies or Grey Knights!? Yes I admit itthere isnothing of the sorts in my theme army. My force centres arounda cell of inquisitors who are off to purge all in the name of the

Emperor. They are only accompanied by a small detachment of the666th Inquisitorial Stormtrooper Regiment. With that in mind, Imade my selections:

    1) An Inquisitor Lord with mastercrafted lightning claws forthose important re-rolls to wound against foes with a superiortoughness. 3 combat servitors will help deal and absorb damage.

    2) A psycannon inquisitor with a retinue including 3 heavy bolterservitors for suppressing re.

    3) Another inquisitor with a thunder hammer and incinerator totie up enemy units

    5) Yes there is a landraider. Why? Because inquisitors travel instyle and it goes along with the storyline. The raider does make fora good mobile bunker and is probably worth more as a road blockto cut off the necron advance.

Desperate times lead to desperate measures. With my remainingpoints, I decided to take two daemonhosts. Sure people scoff atthem for being too random, but they are perfect for holding up largeunits of necronsparticularly when they roll reknit host wounds.

Keeping the necrons busy is all I need to do and to be honest, Idrather be excommunitcate traetoris than dead. For the Emperor!

    THE SILENCE

Sascha:Who dares to defend themselves against the machineand the ages of time! With the ayer and scythe do we wanderforth, ready to strip life from the galaxy. The Eldar will play theireventual part in the slaughter, but for now it is the human cattlethat shall be removed

Being the attacker in the Grand Assault mission places me at adisadvantage. I need to be constantly aware of my objectives andcannot get caught up in any unnecessary dealings. Despite usually

having all eternity on my side, this random game length scaresme. As a necron player, I am also forced to pick a large amount ofwarriors to prevent the phase out rule from taking effect. Goingwith the storyline, I picked units that would be at the head of anambushing force. So Ctan, pariahs, monoliths and tomb spiderswill stay at home. The core of the army is, of course, the necronwarriors, 30 to be exact. Thanks to the new turbo boost rule allowingall models moving as jetbikes to speed 24 ahead, I will have somehard hitting ankers. These will be scarabs, 5 destroyers and 3wraiths. A lord with a veil of darkness and another with a destroyerbody will allow me to get units into close quarters fast.

Overall, I will rely on my toughness, superior saves and ankingunits to get up close and personal. I will need to keep a sharp eyeout for those power weapon wielding inquisitors and even thosestormtroopers are never to be underestimated. Trust me, I know.

My opponent may be able to hide, but he cant run far. Let theharvest begin.

which will allow me to re-roll failed to wounds. Being this high upallows me to avoid close combat and see further across the tablethan my ground dwelling units. I deployed an 8 man plasma squadfor re support in the same building as well. I guess you can saythat the hab-bloc is my rebase.

I have another plasma squad in a fortied building: the arbitesbunker. Next to them I have the venerable land raider Fiat Lux withInquisitor Pravus inside and a melta squad. My opponent will be

forced to pick which target he wants to attack, leaving the othertwo ready to ght back.

The rest of my force occupies all the buildings in my deploymentzone. At the same time, they are close enough to support oneanother should a position come under attack.

    NECRONS

Well, knowing that my opponent gets rst turn, I deployed myforce with caution. My wraiths and scarabs can bypass terrain

when moving so they are hidden away for now. With a 6 inchdeployment from the edge, I really didnt have much of a choicein the placement of my models. Just imagine a long line of metalmonsters with green glowing weapons. I do have one ace up mysleeve the sewer rat stratagem. I placed three of my four markersat the corners and table edge of my opponents deployment zone. The other one I placed in the manufactorum as a fallback plan incase the others were covered. I then left 10 warriors in reservethat will hopefully act as a re magnet when they arrive behind

    enemy lines.

    NOTES

The mission calls for a preliminary bombardment and dusk anddawn. We both decided to leave them out in order to keep thingssimple and focus on the main objective: utter annihilation. Oh yeah, were playing 6 turns too. On with the show!

With the rst turn, I decided to get my squads into betterpositions. The rst amer squad, under orders from Vet Sgt. Kott, advanced along the sewer trench and took cover behind the bridgeand out of the immortals line of sight. My rebase remained withinthe hab-bloc to provide that all important covering re. Inquisitor

Seth gave the psychic command to open re and the three heavybolter servitors at tuned to his mind obeyed. Unleashing nine shotswith the help of the sages, four found their mark on the skulkingimmortals. A cheer went up as one of the metal daemons shattered, but the celebration was cut short as the immortal pieced itself backtogether. In anger, the inquisitor lashed out with his psycannon, but to no avail.

Ok, no problemmaybe my right ank will have better luck.

Showing the typical bravado and insane courage of amonodominant, Inquisitor Barac strode out from the relativesafety of the ruins and into the abandoned street. Fiat Lux, having

remained unscathed during the initial necron ambush, rumbleddown the street to block off the advancing destroyers. The tankslascannons pierced the thick dust clouds, illuminating their target:the necron destroyer lord. The rst shot was just absorbed by thelord, defying all logic that the techpriests knew so well. The secondlascannon missed, but, to quote a certain landraider crewman: Ha!Twin linked fool! The shot found its mark and wounded the lord.Encouraged by the result, Inquisitor Lord Pravus and his retinueemerged from the armored hull of the landraider alongside theadvancing melta squad. As Pravus scanned his surroundings, he

couldnt help but notice the dust clouds taking on a green glow

that is. Deeming the wound non-threatening, the destroyer lordtook to the sky along with ve other immortal/skimmer hybridsand landed near the Fiat Lux. Unleashing a hail of dark energies, the destroyers managed to glance the thick adamantine armor ofthe landraider and detonate its reactor. The explosion lit up the cityblock as the Fiat Lux ironically lived up to its name. With the threatof the landraider dealt with, the wraiths materialized outside of theHQ building just a short distance away from Lord Pravus. It wasthen that an eerie silence fell over the battleeld, leaving only one

    sound to break the monotony.

A scuttling buzz of metallic limbs grew louder and louder as ahuge swarm of scarabs burst through the windows and doors ofthe former HQ building and out into the street. Not wanting tobe left out, the immortals advanced along their end of the sewercanal towards the bridge. The stormtroopers, from their highvantage point in the hab-bloc, could see the dust clouds aroundthe manufactorum vanish under an ethereal wind. In a bright ash,the necron warriors they had been tracking vanished and, to theirhorror, reappeared in the street under them. The second necron

lord raised his head and pointed a metal talon in the directionof a amer squad hiding by the bridge. Green light engulfed thestormtroopers and four fell to the gauss ayers. The squad heldtheir ground, too shocked to move.

My landraider is gonewhat a surprise. Actually, when its notghting an army where every model can destroy it, it does quitewell. Was I right about the roadblock or what?

Seeing the new threat materialize in front of them, the second

amer squad moved out of the ruins towards the necron warriorsand unleashed hell. After the promethium from the two amersdissipated, two necrons lay scorched in the rubble. The remnantsof sgt. Danes squad marched forward and doused with necronswith even more promethium. With the combined re of the plasmasquad in the hab-block, they managed to take down four warriors.Once again the dark, ancient technologies brought three of thenecrons back to life, much to the inquisitions dismay. InquisitorSeth surveyed the carnage bellow and had his servitor retinue openre. With the help of the power generator stratagem, four necronswere wounded, but all withstood the damage with my opponent

rolling four 6s to save. Furious at his servitors incompetence, Seth

lashed out with his psycannon, completely atomizing a stragglingwarrior. Beyond the bridge, Inquisitor Barac brought his incineratorto bear and destroyed two scarab swarms and wounded anotherthanks to the weapons ignore invulnerable saves. The plasmasquad in the arbites bunker shot at the scarabs as well, whichresulted in one killthat being a plasma gunner. Medic! Lord Pravusdecides that retreat may be the better part of valor and movesaway from the advancing destroyers. With a prayer on their lips, the melta squad charges forward into the cathedrals courtyard,

right in front of the advancing destroyers. A melta disintegratesthe carriage of a destroyer, yet it miraculously pieced itself backtogether. Wanting to lend support, Pravus gives in and reveals hisdeepest secret. Lightning arched across the skyline as a shadowygure drifted down to earth. Inquisitor Barac could only look on inhorror, realizing that his master has summoned a daemonhost tobattle. Necrons be damned, Barac had a new enemy that he woulddeal with

The daemonhost, referred to as Hexaus, landed behind thedestroyers and pulsed with dark energies (rolled warpstrength).

With the enemy closing in, sgt. Dane orders his remaining mento charge, but they become entangled in the terrain. InquisitorBarac stood dumbfounded at his Lords betrayal and failed toassault the scarabs hiding behind the sandbag bunker.

Observing plasma re from the third story of thehab-bloc, the immortals sent gauss blaster re into the destroyedwindows and were rewarded with the screams of three men.Sensing a new threat on the battleeld, the destroyer lord andthe destroyers turn to face the newly arrived daemonhost. I think I will have the Grey Knightsquestion him sometime)

Lightning claws blazing, Lord Pravus lashed outat the destroyer lord and left him with one wound

The sewer rat warrior squad creptinto the waterworks building while the

Withno regards to their own safety and the dark entityin front of them, the destroyers determined theplasma stormtroopers contesting the bunker to beof a greater threat. A solid wave of gauss re ayedthe remaining ve troopers down to their atoms

leaving the wraiths in full control of the bunker.

The warriors by the factory continued their methodicaladvance and watched the remaining two immortalswade through the sewer trench and emerge at the otherside. The immortals once again targeted the squad inthe hab-bloc, but two stormtroopers managed to ndcover just in time.

Daemonhost Neerozeus pulsed with unearthly energies, its formcontorting into all sorts of unnatural positions. Although it wasterrifying to behold, all squads within the twelve inches made theirpinning checks. PRA ISE BE TO THE EMPEROR!

    MIKE:

What a game! The inquisition managed to hold off the tide of thenecronsbut just barely. The real game winner should be Saschafor a few reasons: He had a tough mission to begin with. Havingto take back every building and wipe out the opponent inside is no

easy task. He was really close to achieving it though! If the gamewent on for one or two more turns, he would have wiped me outcompletely because he had many more models on the table.

Im sure there are people still yelling at me for taking a landraiderin dense terrain against an army where every model can kill a tank.Sure enough, Fiat Lux blew up before making a dent in the necrons. The things I do for storylines

On the other hand, I was quite pleased with my hab-bloc rebase. The inquisitor and his retinue kept harassing necron units all gamelong. The plasma squad on the second oor did their best as well.

In the end, it was this building that remained out of the graspof the necrons because anyone that got close was wiped out! Mystormtroopers performed as usual, inicting major damage beforebeing annihilated. Looks like Ill be heading back to the ScholaProgenium to recruit more fresh meaterr, uhdutiful servants ofthe Emperor. Overall though, it was a great game and I believe Iwill be seeing those necrons againstupid well be back rule

    DEFEAT IS DEAFENING.

    SASCHA:

Argh! The Old Ones foil my carefully laid plans even now! I mayhave underestimated the tenacity of the humans and particularlythe will of the inquisiton. I knew from the beginning this wasntgoing to be easy. While the necrons have some fast units, the

rest have to slowly march across the board. I had almost two fullsquads of warriors left at the end of the game but they were toolate to turn the tide. My ank attack did quite well, destroying thelandraider and the stormtrooper units. I didnt however anticipatethose two inquisitors stopping my attack cold. If that roadblockwasnt there, Im sure that Mikes rebase would have fallen.

I did make some bad decisions during the game like not gettingmy teleporting lord out of combat to pick up other warriors. Thoseerrors compounded with some bad armor saves and difcult terrainroles made me have to ght up hill the whole battle.

Ill leave the excuses for later though because it was a greatgame against a fun opponent. Ill be back!

    An Orks TalePart 3

The mud was tossed through the air as Ugluks crude shovel dugits way ever deeper, water was up to his ankles and his new wellwould be a success, once it was nished.

Orky diggin boss!, Snikwort shouted from above, standing onthe edge of the hole in the ground.

Ugluk stuck the shovel into the mud, Toss down da rope, willya!.

    Orky!

The rope hit Ugluk over the head and he let out a loud obscenecurse, upon which he climbed up out of the would-be well.

Sorry boss, Snikwort said, one hand stroking the arm, the feetsquirming innocently in the ground.

Ugluk simply grunted and spat in the dirt.

Engine noise caught everyones attention on the squig farm andall the gretchins and snotlings moved to see what it was.

Ugluk and Snikwort walked over to the edge of the farm, lookingat the single plume of dust trailing a lone buggy heading their wayat frightening speeds, bumping along in great jumps.

    Aghrukk?, Snikwort said.

Naah, da kamp is da other way. Dunno who dis is.

The huge engine with four wheels strapped on slid in onto theyard of the farm, throwing up a great cloud of dust that engulfedthe entire yard.

As soon as the dust settled, the smaller inhabitants of the squigfarm dared to peek out from behind their hiding places.

Ugluk stepped out into the open, a crude blunderbuss held at theready by his hip, Alright yu bleedin git! Hands up!.

Not so fast yu big log! Dreg down will ya!.

The gretchin behind the steeringwheel got up on his feet andpulled the thick driving-goggles of his goblinlike face.

Gogg!!,Ugluk roared, throwing the gun over his shoulder andwalked up to the buggy.

How yu doin yu runt?!, Gogg said with a grin as he jumpedout of the buggy and slapped Ugluk over the thigh as the orkapproached.

Fine, da squig farm rip offs orky enuff.

Glad to hear it. Now, wuzz doz a grot have to do to gets somedrink around here?.

Ugluk laughed, A grod like yu dont have to do much!, beforeGogg had a chance to duck, Ugluk had picked him up and carriedhim off under his arm, the gretchin screaming and kicking as hetried to get free, but the strong ork simply kept up laughing, Datswuzz yu gets for gobin da boss of da farm!.

Heading for the main building of the farm, Ugluk noticedWaghDurk coming out from the outhouse, pulling his pants upwith some effort.

Yu tuf git! Gets em runts goin!.

The runtherder nodded and then started shouting orders at thegrots and snots, the little goblins and gremlins hardly taking noticeof the old drunk.

Two huge mugs of rewater were placed on the bolted metallictable and Gogg let out a satised sigh when he grabbed the mugwith both hands, I havent had a proper drink since I left Garg-Gorkdur.

The gretchin drank several mouthfuls in one go, Ugluk sat downopposite the grot, grabbing the last mug with his huge hand, Wuzzbrings yer back dis far from da durslag?.

Gogg wiped his mouth with the length of his arm after havingplaced the mug back on the table, I hear things ar gettin ruffover here.

It feels like it, doesnt it?.

Do yer think dat Aghrukk is boss enuff an has da grubb to duffGaffrogg or his Waa of boyz?.

Ugluk drank some more of the rewater, then gave it somethought, Naa, not likely.

Then wuzz choice do yer have?, Gogg took a sip of the strongdrink, To save yer farm, yu have to join da mob.

It would be smarter to shuv it all down an move to da slagdur,Ugluk pointed out, taking another mouthful of the homemadebrew.

Smarter??, Gogg was bafed, But yer an ork?.

    Ya... So?.

Well... Yer like a bad brawl.

    Dunno, never been in wun.

Gogg scratched his head, blinking his eyes, he never saw thisturn of events coming, So... Uh... Wuzz do yet want to do? Zag itor brawl it?.

Ugluk stroked his chin, humming as he pondered the two options, his ork brain working hard to come up with a good decision.

Ordz of nosh if wun duffs da brawl, right?.

Gogg nodded,Ya, lotz of ordz of nosh. An ordz of teef too.

An at da slagdur, ordz of villuns an baduns, ey?.

    Ya, ordz of bosses.

Ugluk made up his mind and nished the drink, slamming themug down hard on the table,Right, wun git boss is enuff for me.Im stayin an Im brawlin.

A wicked grin spread across Goggs nasty looking face, Den Ihas da purfect thing for yer to use.

    Wuzz dat?.

    Ordz an ordz of Dakka.

Some three hundred orks, and maybe as many as eight hundredgretchin had gathered outside of the village known as Da Ard

Knuckles Kamp. The sound of orks growling, engines roaring andguns blasting at the sky could be heard miles around.

Trukks, buggies and bikes and trikes drove around everywhere, even the odd cyboar could be seen.

The promised scrap between Da Ard Knuckles and Da GrimBoyshad attracted some of the meanest looking orks this part of theplanet had to offer, all armed to the teeth with cleavers, homemadeguns and shabby cybork mekaniks.

The noise of it all was deafening.

Now dats a mob, Snikwort said, looking up behind the shoulderof Ugluk, the gretchin hanging on to the ork as they rode on theboar.

WaghDruk sat on his own boar next to them, Looks orky enuff, will have no gits wid causing some garg dreg.

Wasting wazzauids, an da slugs, Ugluk commented, seeingthe vehicles constantly driving around and the guns being redinto the air.

WaghDurk looked at the younger ork.

Ugluk noticed the questioning expression of the runtherder,Wont they need da wazzauid an da slugs in da brawl?.

Doesnt matter, WaghDurk said, If yer run out of slugs, justuse da choppa, an if yer run out of wazzauids, just stomp it.

Ugluk nodded, it seemed logical enough, but he still couldnthelp but think that it would be better to preserve all that fuel and

ammunition to the real ght, instead of wasting it here at thevillage.

Ar yer sure about dis boss?, Snikwort asked, a bit worried atthe sight of so many angry orks waiting for a big ght.

We have to duff Gaffrogg, Snikwort. If we dont, he an hiz boyzwill blitz out kamp an dreg da farm, itz da only way.

Snikwort climbed over to the runtherders boar and Ugluk wasjust about to ride down to the gathered mob when WaghDurkstopped him, Grubstash wun thing Ugluk.

Ugluk looked over his shoulder at the old ork.

When yu blast away wid da shootas, use long an uncontrolledbursts for da orkiest dakka, an when yu swing da choppa, swing itard an manik for da best grimgor.

Ugluk nodded and grinned, See ya around you grots.

The ork kicked the sides of the boar with his heels and the beastshot off in a gallop down the hill towards the mob of bloodthirstyorks.

Snikwort looked down after his master from behind theruntherders shoulder, Will he grim it?.

WaghDurk smiled, showing of his few remaining teeth, Dat boywill duff em all.

Dust obscured vision, the stench of fuel and gun smoke

suppressed all other smells, the loud noise of orks and engines andguns locked out all other sounds.

Orks and trukks were everywhere, grots running around, climbingtrukks and buggies, shootas and sluggas ring one round after theother straight into the air.

Yer nevva gunna keep up wid da rest of us on dat thing yu naffork!, an ork said from behind the two sticks that acted as steeringfor a massive trukk.

Ugluk took a look at his boar, then turned to face the driver,Wuzz it to yu?.

Yu wants a badgrim zagrukk, gets yer bum up ere!, the drivershouted back at him.

Ugluk took a look at the back of the trukk, it was overcrowdedalready with orks in shabby armor, all armed with shootas andeven bigger kannons, many of them trying to shoot down the sky,all of them roaring like a thunderstorm.

Gretchins climbed along the sides, trying to nd the best spotwhere you could be safe and still take potshots at the enemy.

Well, well!, a roaring voice was heard over the deafening noiseof the gathering mob.

Ugluk turned and saw Aghrukk Ard Knuckle himself sittingon top of a large trike behind the ork driver, the boss holding ahuge choppa in the one hand and a double-barreled shoota in theother.

If it isnt dat git of a squigherder, Ugluk!, Aghrukk laughed,Wuzz ar yu doin ere anyways?! Dis is a mob for da boyz, not amob for da grots an snots!.

Ugluk sneered and spat on the frontwheel of the trike, the gobof spit clearly upsetting the driver, Im an ork of dis kamp aswell!,

he shouted back at the boss.

Aghrukk laughed even louder, Yu may be an ork Ugluk, but datdont make yer wun of da boyz!, the boss laughed even more andkicked the driver over the back of his head, a clear signal for theork driver to get moving.

The wheels spun and the trike made a quick turn where it stoodand drove off in a cloud of dust, Aghrukks laughter raised over thenoise of the trukks and orks.

Ugluk growled openly, he hated the boss more than anything andwouldnt mourn if the fool got himself killed in the up and comingght.

Yu comin?!, the trukkdriver shouted down after him.

Ugluk spat at the ground, turned and heaved the heavy sack inhis hand up among the other orks on the trukk, then climbed up,pulling himself over the wooden fence around the at platform of

    the trailer.

Aghrukks trike left the large mob and stopped some thirty feetaway from them, he stood up in his seat and looked over his shoulderat the orks that had gathered to join his party of destruction.

Raising his slugga in the air, he red a massive burst of stlike bullets at the sky, roaring in triumph at the orks under hiscommand.

    WAAAAGH!!!!

The entire mob acted as one, blasting away at the clouds withevery gun in their arsenal, waving choppas above their heads, letting their bestial throats let out a ground shaking roar.

    WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!!!!!!!.

The huge mob of trukks, bikes and trikes shot off in the samedirection on a broad front, every driver racing the ones next to himin a bet to get to the ghting rst, leaving in their wake a torn uplandscape of mud, dust and deep going wheeltracks.

Ugluk felt the wind hitting his face, his ears apping, his cheekstrembling.

As the trukk hit bumps and rocks it shook violently in thegreat speeds it was traveling in and Ugluk held a rm grip on theconstruction of the vehicle.

or maybe it vibrated because of the shaky ride, no matter, Uglukknew that this was the proper life for an ork.

He only hoped the brawl would live up to his expectations.

The sixty or so vehicles moved in a disorganised teardrop-shaped bundle, no-one was racing each other anymore, the driverssat lazily in their seats keeping the throttle at a decent cruisingspeed.

The orks they carried along in their trukks and buggies and ontheir bikes werent as agitated as well like they had been somehours earlier, now they all sat slumped and sleeping, or leanedagainst the rides in boredom, watching the landscape rush themby.

The trukk rocked as it hit an old dead log, the rotten woodsplintering under the advancing machine.

Ugluk woke from his slumber, he rubbed his face with a stronghand and then got up on his feet, the trukk he was riding in waslocated in the middle of the warband, surrounded by the rest of thecrude vehicles.

The terrain was that of rolling hills, snaking streams and spreadout boulders and clumps of trees and bushes.

Not da baddest of trukk-land, the ork thought to himself, andhe was right, the orks of Aghrukk Ard Knuckle soon had spreadout far and wide as they avoided boulders and trees, gulleys andditches.

Ugluk leaned down over to the driver infront of him, How muchlonger til we reach dem naff gits Da GrimBoyz?!.

The ork doing the driving shrugged his shoulders, How should Iknow, Im just ere for da brawlin!.

Ugluk grunted and pulled himself back up on the trailer, hesurveyed the advancing mob and the landscape around them, everchanging his footing as the uneven ride constantly threatened totoss him on his back.

He noticed something out of place further ahead. A clump oftrees up on a hill some miles ahead, there was something wrongwith the undergrowth, the light passing through the trees frombehind was cut out in a strange way, unnatural even.

Ugluk locked his eyes on the peculiar grove, trying to gure outwhat it was that was so wrong with it.

Looks like a trukk, he mumbled as he scratched his bald head,

then it dawned on him, DA SKUM!!!, all the orks on the trukkwoke up from their daydreaming and focused their attention onUgluk, the shouting ork pointing at something up ahead.

    KA-BOOM!!!

A massive ball of black smoke rushed out from the large hill, nowonly a half a mile away and before any of Aghrukks orks had timeto react a large explosion sent dirt, mud, rocks and a few buggiesand trikes ying.

    WAAAAAAAAGH!!!!

The orkish roar echoed over the roar of the engines as trukksand buggies along with traks and bikes came ying down fromridges and out of hiding behind hills and bushes.

The two ambushing forces slammed in without remorse into bothanks of Aghrukks spread out forces, blasting away with every gunin the arsenal, turning trukks and buggies into scrap and sendingorks ying through the air, riddled with bullet holes.

Guns were blazing, orks yelling and roaring, engines pufng

smoke and ames, wheels dug up tracks and ditches behind them, mud was tossed high into the air, dark green blood splattered allover.

It was soon chaos as the orks of Aghrukk and Gaffrogg and theirvehicles mixed it up in the rough terrain, blasting at everythingthat moved with no regards if it was friend or foe.

The orks howled with furious rejoice, the gretchins shrieked outof horrid fear, everyone was spending ammunition as fast as theycould.

Ugluk kept his head down, holding on in the tight turns and hardknocks the trukk was put through, the strained engine shaking theentire structure of the trukk.

All around the orks roared and red their sluggas and shootas, blood was owing freely on the trailer, moving in waves with everyturn made by the driver.

The ork standing next to Ugluk crashed over him, Ugluk growled

and shoved him off, the ork landing in a limp pile next to him, theorks body torn apart by gaping st sized holes on his torso.

Bullets ricocheted around Ugluks head and he inched as heheard them whizz past his head.

He lost his balance and fell on his rear when the trukk collidedwith one of the enemys own trukks.

Enuff of dis!, he thought, with adrenaline pumping he reachedover to his bag made from a leather canopy and ripped off theropes around it with his strong hands and arms, then he pulled offthe canopy itself.

The head of one of the orks next to him came apart in a fountainof green goo and the dead ork ew off the trukk, crashing violentlyinto a waiting boulder.

Ugluk adjusted his footing on the blood soaked oor, and raisedhis gun with both hands holding a rm grip.

His quad-barreled eavy shoota was about to get its baptism ofre.

A red painted buggy jumped through the air, two great jet ameshissing from its rear, it landed and bounced along, the driverlaughing like a madman, the ork behind him shouting obscenephrases at everyone and everything as he pumped out the largesolid slugs of his twin big shoota.

Ugluk took rough aim as the buggy came his way and pulled thetrigger, his entire eld of vision was engulfed with a wall of re asthe muzzle ash from the four barrels as they erupted with deathspitting fury.

Ugluk was tossed back by the full force of the weapon, sendinghim falling on his rear, blood splashing as he landed in the spilledremains of the orks.

One of the orks on the trukk took a step over to him and gavehim his hand,Now dats wuzz I calls proper dakka!
