Firebird is the first aircraft built from concept to production as an optionally manned or unmanned intelligence, surveillance, and

reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft.

Designed as a data collection platform, its key attributes include sensor flexibility, integration and capability. The aircraft increases real-time data collection through simultaneous use of multiple ISR and communications sensor payloads on a single platform.

The aircraft is equipped with Northrop Grumman’s Multi-Platform Mission Control System, which allows a wide array of sensors to be added to the aircraft as plug and play devices. This open architecture, IP-based network allows sensors to be changed as needed, reducing payload integration time.

Firebird is also equipped with multiple wide band Line-of-Sight and Beyond-Line-of-Sight data links, onboard network attached storage and accessible processing for sensor use, standards-based interfaces and command protocol.

The aircraft can carry up to five sensors at any time. Available sensor suites include:

• Signals intelligence• Communications relay and networking• Electro-optical/infrared• Synthetic aperture radar/ground moving and

dismount moving target indicator• High-frequency direction finding• Multi-spectral imaging• Wide area augmentation system

Firebird is part of Northrop Grumman’s family of manned and optionally manned ISR solutions.
