Summer at Bonclarken • Horizon High School Conference (June 24 -28) and Quest Middle
School Conference (June 17-21) These week-long conferences offer great opportunities for spiritual growth, fellowship and teaching from God's Word. Registration fee ($115) due May 15; contact Luke for more details.
• Music & Drama Camp (July 7-12) is a great opportunity for those who have completed grades 2-8 to have lots of fun learning about set de-sign, costuming, and program design in preparation for a musical pro-duction. Camp ends Friday evening with a musical production. Our own Sarah Dagenhart serves on the staff.
• Music Conference (July 14-19) is sponsored by the ARP denomination and held at Bonclarken. Choirs are offered for ages 4 and older, along with crafts, recreation and Bible lessons, and a wonderful concert con-cludes the week. Wonderful clinicians and conductors work with each choir and our own Sarah Dagenhart is the Children’s Church leader. Jen-ny Nowicki, Children's Music Director, will chaperone a group this sum-mer. Please contact Jenny if you have kids interested in attending!
• Camp Bonclarken (Two sessions are offered: July 21-26, July 29-August 2) offers a Christ-centered camping experience for boys and girls who have completed grades 2-8. Campers will be encouraged through Bible study, recreation, crafts, music, adventure activities, visits to the Nibble Nook, evening worship, and nightly campfires at the lake.
• Family Bible Conference (July 29 - August 1) Bible teaching, seminars and children’s programming along with time to enjoy all that Bonclarken offers your family. Contact John Barron for more infor-mation.
More information and registration at www.bonclarken.org
Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen The Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen continues to be a popular place. On Thursday, February 21 a group from First ARP served more
than 100 people pork chops and pork tenderloin, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, bread and fruit cobbler.
Carla Blumenfeld, Susan Eaves, Susan Gardner, Beth Simpson, Jan Stephenson, and Donna Ziegler volunteered this month.
The next serving opportunity will be Thursday, March 21. Even if you cannot be there for the entire time (9:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.)
you can still be a big help to this wonderful ministry.
Contact Susan Gardner to get involved. ([email protected])
Pastor’s Message Barry Dagenhart, Senior Pastor
Today as I write this article, I am thinking about the word volunteer. What comes to your mind when you hear that word? For some people, especially during football season, they might think of fans of the University of Tennessee or their players. But today, I am thinking about what a volunteer really is. According to Webster’s, a volunteer is “one who offers to enter into any service of his own free will.” Generally speaking, service involves making a
difference in the lives of others. As Paul puts it in Philippians 2:4, “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” He writes those words right before he illustrates them by talking about Jesus, who came into this world and “emptied himself, taking the form of a servant…” In other words, Jesus was a volunteer, among other things, and that is why the church should always be full of volunteers, because we seek to follow the example of our Lord and Savior. I have written before in this newsletter about various volunteers in the life of the church and what a difference they make, whether we are speaking of those who serve in the nursery, those who teach, those who sing or play instruments, those who work in the kitchen and more – there are scores of volunteers – all sorts of people who make a difference because of who they are and what God is doing in their lives. Today, I want to highlight one such individual who was recently honored by Women’s Ministries.
First ARP Women’s Ministries: Woman of the Year This year’s honor goes to a woman who has the gift for gab and musical talent...
Betsy Dreier is generous, caring and compassionate.
She is a former treasurer for Women's Ministries, and volunteers throughout the church by loving on our little ones in the nursery,
prepping and cooking in the kitchen, greeting families and staying as overnight host for Family Promise, organizing and tidying the library, caring for and singing with our special friends at Just Joy, sharing the
prayer requests and leading Bible study, Sunday School and Circle.
Betsy blesses us with her talent on the piano in worship and in the children's programs. She is the first one to provide a meal to a needy friend or family and is always willing to help with condolence meals
or receptions. She is a friend to everyone she meets and greets visitors and old friends alike with a huge smile and hug.
Basketball Banquet Wednesday, March 20
beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Come join this wonderful evening of outreach and celebration of our basketball teams. Make plans to attend so that we can welcome our players and their
families and thank our coaches for their time and service this season.
Our special guest speaker for the evening is Cory Hinton, who is an area representative for Fellowship of Christian
Athletes (FCA). Cory grew up playing sports in our community and now feels called to use sports as a vehicle to
expand His Kingdom in the Rock Hill area.
Saturday, March 30 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.
Bring your garden gloves & tools and help to spruce up the church for Easter.
There will be a variety of indoor and outdoor tasks for everyone!

Jubilee Birthday Celebration Wednesday, March 13
at Foundations for the Faith
Each year Women’s Ministries hosts a church-wide celebration honoring faithful servants of the Lord who
serve as missionaries and are actively working to take the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world.
Our speaker for this year’s celebration is Sam Cotten. Sam and his wife Martha Margaret became missionary candidates with World Witness in 2017 and will begin serving with the Mobile Theological
Training Team (MT3). Their vision is to see pastors and church leaders established in Reformed teaching, in order to equip the church as it grows, particularly in its struggle with paganism and
Islam. Sam has 12 years of pastoral experience in the U.S. With a BS from Erskine College and a Masters-Old Testament from
Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, he plans to pursue a Ph.D. Martha Margaret has a BA in Social Studies from Erskine College and
is pursuing an MA-Theological Studies from Erskine Seminary. The Cottens have four children.
The Jubilee Birthday celebration and offering were begun in 1925 to commemorate the Jubilee (50th anniversary) of sending out the first ARP foreign missionary. You can find out more by visiting:
http://arpwm.org/about/jubilee-birthday/
Jubilee Birthday ladies are:
Rebekah Carson(Germany)
and
Shelia Osborne (Short-term missions)
Rebekah Carson joined World Witness in 2004 and began working with a church-planting team at the Family Center in former East Berlin, Germany. In 2012, she moved to Altglienicke, in the southeast of Berlin to work with a new church-planting team. She is involved in building relationships with young
people and working with national Christians in outreach and discipleship. In 2000, Rebekah earned her B.A. in history and Christian education from Erskine College. Prior to her commitment to World Wit-ness, she served as Director of Christian Education at First Lancaster ARP Church. Since 2006, she has
been directing a summer English Camp for unchurched children.
Shelia & Jeff Osborne were commissioned as missionaries with World Witness in 2001. They served in San Luis Potosi and Rio Verde, Mexico. Their ministry together
included leading discipleship courses for adult couples, training those who would work with children, organizing Bible clubs and hosting short-term mission groups. In addi-tion, Shelia established a lending library of Christian Education materials for the local
churches, taught Sunday School, led a women’s Bible study, and taught English. In March, 2009, the Osbornes returned to the U.S., where Shelia currently serves as the
Short-term Ministry Coordinator and Liaison to Women’s Ministries for World Wit-ness. They adopted their daughter, Sarahí, while in Mexico.
Offerings received at Jubilee Birthday celebrations are sent to World Witness for
Rebekah Carson and Shelia Osborne.
