NOTES FROM DANMy Closing Notes It has been such a joy and privilege to serve as your Associate Pastor for Music for almost 4 years. You have been so supportive, kind, and appreciative of my ministry with you. Thanks goes to you ( the congregation), all the staff members I have had the pleasure to work with, our wonderful accompanists, and especially your superb Sanctuary Choir. I hope you will never take your choir for granted. Trust me, they are one of the finest choirs in the Panhandle and all of West Texas for that matter. Thank you also for the wonderful reception, the thoughtful cards, the gifts, and the generous love offering. Our Texas Baptist Convention has asked me to become Music and Worship Consultant for the BGCT on a part-time basis so really I’m still working for you. I’m here to help you and all of our churches with their music & worship needs. It will give me a lot of freedom and also great opportunities for ministry. Know I’m praying for Larry, as your new Worship Minister, and all of you as you minister to the fastest growing area in the Panhandle.

May God Bless You All,Dan

A WORD FROM STEVE (CONT.)

... The third condition to be a follower is that a follower of Jesus follows Jesus at all cost. Jesus speaks of what it will cost those who wish to be His followers. These three costs are calling a potential follower to a life of selfless suffering. They are to be selfless in that they no longer think of themselves and what they want. They are to suffer in that following Jesus will bring difficulties in life. Jesus is not calling anyone to live a life that He did not live Himself. Remember, as goes the leader, so go the followers. Jesus was saying if you want to follow Me you will live the same life I lived. A follower of Jesus lives Jesus’ life. Implied in the question, “What will it cost me;” is the question, “Will I give it up?” The choice is yours to make.

We will be hosting a special "Parent Dedication" ceremony and reception on Sunday, April 7th at 3:30 p.m. in the Ministry Center. Call Jill or Cyndi in the church office for more information.

A WORD FROM STEVE: TAKING UP THE CROSS“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.”

Mark 8:34 It is only natural that around Easter our hearts and minds are focused on the cross of Christ. We stand amazed (or at least should) that the Son of God would descend from heaven to earth in order to take up his cross to die for our sins. The disciples definitely could not believe what Jesus had to say about this (please read Mark 8:27-38). Jesus took this opportunity to teach the disciples that he not only would take up his cross, but that anyone who would follow after him must also take up their cross. Jesus gave three conditions to be his follower. The first condition of being a follower is that a follower of Jesus knows more than Jesus’ name. Before they could tell others about Jesus, they first had to have a proper understanding of who Jesus was. For a follower of Jesus knows more than just his name. Is it crucial that we have the right answer to who Jesus is? Your confession concerning Jesus is a matter of life and death. Jesus said, “This is eternal life, that they mayknow you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent,” (John 17:3). Jesus in his words and works

gave every evidence that he was the Son of God, and yet the people of his day (and our day) did not get the message. They had opinions instead of convictions, and this is what led them astray. And this is what leads people astray still today, they have opinions and not convictions. Implied in the question, “Who is Jesus,” is the question, “Will you trust him?” Will you trust him for the salvation of your soul, for the gift of eternal life? The second condition of being a follower is that a follower of Jesus accepts Jesus’ path. The path Jesus took was the way of the cross; a journey of selfless suffering. Jesus’ rejection and suffering would lead to his ultimate death. As Jesus was speaking, Peter abruptly interrupts His teaching. Why was Peter so upset? He understood a simple principle of the life of a follower: As goes the leader, so go the followers. Jesus rebukes Peter because he had the wrong idea of what it meant for Jesus to be the Messiah. The disciples cannot know who Jesus really is without accepting the necessity of his suffering and death, and they cannot be his disciples unless they accept that fate for themselves. Implied in the question, “Where is Jesus going,” is the question, “Will you follow him?” Will you follow him into humility before the public? Will you follow him to the point of losing your life? ...
