*PROCESSIONAL HYMN #310 Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee Hymn to Joy
These verses are simple expressions of common Christian feelings and desires in this present time—hymns of today that may be sung together by people who know the thought of the age, and are not afraid that any truth of science will destroy religion, or any revolution on earth overthrow the kingdom of heaven. Therefore this is a hymn of trust and joy and hope.

Reading & Proclaiming God’s Word
OLD TESTAMENT LESSON Rev. Mark Craig
Zechariah 7:9-10: Thus says the LORD of hosts: Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another; do not oppress the widow, the orphan, the alien, or the poor; and do not devise evil in your hearts against one another.
Leader: Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church. People: Thanks be to God!
PSALTER LESSON Rev. Craig
Psalm 145:14-21: The LORD upholds all who are falling, and raises up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season. You open your hand, satisfying the desire of every living thing. The LORD is just in all his ways, and kind in all his doings. The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desire of all who fear him; he also hears their cry, and saves them. The LORD watches over all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy. My mouth will speak the praise of the LORD, and all flesh will bless his holy name forever and ever.
*GOSPEL LESSON Rev. David Coggins
Leader: The Gospel of the Lord according to Matthew. People: Praise be to you, O Christ.
Matthew 11:2-6: When John heard in prison what the Messiah was doing, he sent word by his disciples and said to him, “Are you the one who is to come, or are we to wait for another?” Jesus answered them, “Go and tell John what you hear and see: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have good news brought to them. And blessed is anyone who takes no offense at me.”
Leader: For the Word of God in Scripture, for the Word of God among us, for the Word of God within us.
People: Thanks be to God!
*THE FELLOWSHIP HYMN #440 Though I May Speak with Bravest Fire Gift of Love
As paraphrases of 1 Corinthians 13:1,3 the first two stanzas here are in the first person singular, yet they lead into a plural prayer for the gift of such love, for it thrives in community. These words are especially poignant with this adaptation of an English folk melody.
CHILDREN’S MESSAGE Ray Landis

When I Survey the Wondrous Cross ...................... Gilbert Martin
When I survey the wondrous cross, on which the Prince of glory died, My richest gain I count but loss, and pour contempt on all my pride.
Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, save in the death of Christ, my God; All the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to His blood.
See, from His head, His hands, His feet, sorrow and love flow mingled down; Did e’er such love and sorrow meet, or thorns compose so rich a crown?
Were the whole realm of nature mine, that were a present far too small; Love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all.

Give Me That Old Time Religion ...................... Moses Hogan
Give me that old time religion, give me that old time religion, give me that old time religion, it’s good enough for me. It was good for the
Hebrew children, it was good for the Hebrew children, it was good for the Hebrew children, it’s good enough for me. It was good for Paul and Silas,
it was good for Paul and Silas, it was good for Paul and Silas, it’s good enough for me. It was good for my grandmother, it was good for my
grandmother, it was good for my grandmother, it’s good enough for me. Give me that old time religion, give me that old time religion, Lord give me that old time religion, it’s good enough for me.

King’s Weston
If there is anyone worthy to be called a successor to hymn writer Charles Wesley, it may be Fred Pratt Green (1903-2000). An Englishman educated at Didsbury College in Manchester, Green was ordained in the Methodist ministry in 1928, serving circuits throughout the country between 1927 and 1969. During his ministry he wrote plays and hymns and published three collections of his poems. It is set here to one of the composer’s most sonorous tunes.
