Curveballs
When I played baseball in high school, I had a hard time
recognizing and hitting curve balls. A lot of people do.
When you’re in your batting stance, expecting a fast ball
right down the middle, and the pitcher throws a curve
ball 15 miles an hour slower than what you are
expecting, it presents a couple of problems. First, you
put all your weight forward, making you off balance.
Then, without any weight behind the ball, you suffer a
significant power loss. The result is either a swinging
strike or a weak ground ball, which helps no one.
My family and I have been served a pretty big curve ball
lately. We have found ourselves off balance and without
strength because of it. This curve ball was unexpected.
But you – our church family – have helped us right our
ship and offered strength through your prayers,
support, and encouragement.
We can’t say enough how much we love and appreciate
every one of you. You have shown us the true love of
Christ at a time when we desperately needed it. As I
always tell you, it is a deep honor to be your pastor, and
you have proven it once again.
We covet your continued prayers in the days ahead, and
please know that you have ours as well.
In His Love,
The Laughlins
A Word from Bro. Stephen
Music & Sr. Adults
one feels their way is best! I ran across a simple test this week that I would like to share with you. Ask yourself—
What kind of music does God like?
What is God’s preferred Order of Worship
Is God partial to stained glass windows or theatrical lighting?
Is God into projected lyrics on screens or hardback hymnals?
Sometimes we get caught up in worship-related issues that are trivial. The truth is, our way is often not God’s way. In the end, it’s not about us anyway. It’s about Him. It’s about exalting His name. Psalm 150:6 is a universal call to worship that addresses all of creation, heaven, and earth. I would like to challenge each of you to remember that worship is about what us, but about exalting God. Upcoming Events
Celebration Ringers – Rehearsals resume on Wednesday, August 14 at 6:00 p.m. Senior Adult Luncheon – Thursday, August 15 at 11:30 a.m. Observance of the Lord’s Supper – Sunday, September 22 at 11:00 a.m.
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Psalm 150:6
It’s easy to assume that “our way” is “God’s way.” In our current day and age, we are exposed to many different styles of worship…contemporary, traditional, praise and worship…and every-

The summer is almost over, and the new school year is quickly
approaching. For some students, like my daughter Lex, this will be
their last year of high school. For others, this upcoming school year
is the beginning of a new chapter of their lives.
The Student Ministry at FBC will kick off this exciting new school
year with a Back to School Luncheon on Sunday, August 18, after the
morning church service. We will provide free lunch for the students
and their parents. The youth workers and I are making a few minor
changes to the youth program, and we want to keep everyone
informed of those changes. I also would like use the luncheon as an
opportunity to officially introduce myself and my family to the new
students who are coming into the youth group.
The luncheon is open to all members of the youth as well as their
parents. Students also are encouraged to invite a friend who might be
interested our Student Ministry program. We will offer games,
prizes, a few laughs, and of course good fellowship.
I hope to see you all there.
Y’all are the best!
Colin
THANK YOU!! Your
many words and acts of kindness
made my birthday last Sunday so
special. Most importantly, together
we collected over $800 toward a
new laminating machine for our
church. We are about halfway
there! As you are led, please
continue to give your offerings for
this important ministry tool. I am
sure we will have one soon! You
are a generous people!
Our staffing is almost complete
for the new church year. There
will be a couple of new adult
Sunday School classes offered
this year. You will hear more
details about them within the next
two weeks.
All Sunday School teachers will
meet on Sunday, August 18th at 5
PM in the 39 and Holding class (the
Old Fellowship Hall). This meeting
will give information about the new
church year. The September/
October calendar will also be
detailed. This will be a very
important meeting. Every Sunday
School class should be represented.
See you in Sunday School,
Theresa
