A WORD FROM YOUR PASTOR

John 10:28 states, “I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.” I love the assurance this verse brings us. I believe this verse has lead many to the assurance, “once saved always saved.” But this verse has led many to falsely believe they can live their lives however they want and not worry about their salvation. Don’t get me wrong, this verse is absolutely true. However, we need to always realize that we must understand the entirety of God’s Word and Paul stresses in Phi-lippians 2:12, “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” What does this passage mean? Well, let’s back up a few verses in John 10 and we will see what it means. John 10:27 is the key, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” See the key to assurance? It’s obedience. Faith without obedience isn’t faith at all. We can’t live our lives any way we please because that James spent an entire book telling us that faith isn’t based on our actions but is proven by our actions. Works do not bring about faith but faith always brings about works. So how are you and I doing when it comes to obedience? Are there aspects in our hearts and lives that we tell God that He can’t rule? That we won’t submit to Him? We can never accept Christ as Savior without accepting Him as Lord. (Which is exactly what Pas-tor Chris said in his sermon last week). Because of what Christ has done for us, we can live in “blessed assurance.” But that assurance comes from knowing Christ and following Him. Paul isn’t telling us that we work for our salvation. He is telling us that when we come to know God, we live our lives in great respect and honor because of both Who He is and what He has done for us. That respect and honor leads us to live a life of worship and obedience to Christ! Don’t miss this Sunday as we combine two choirs in leading in worship cele-brating the “Blessed Assurance” we have in Christ. See you Sunday! Randy

Zayin Psalm 119:49-56 49 Remember your word to your servant, in which you have made me hope. 50 This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life.51 The insolent utterly deride me, but I do not turn away from your law. 52 When I think of your rules from of old, I take comfort, O Lord.53 Hot indignation seizes me because of the wicked, who forsake your law. 54 Your statutes have been my songs in the house of my sojourning.55 I remember your name in the night, O Lord, and keep your law. 56 This blessing has fallen to me, that I have kept your pre-cepts. In v51, the psalmist writes that the insolent (arrogant) deride him, but he would not turn from his belief in God’s Word, not would he turn from follow-ing it.

There are many in the world today who mock and scorn Christianity for the faithful stances we take. Consider Vice-President Mike Pence. He has been mocked and scorned for his position that married Christian men shouldn’t put themselves in possibly compromising situations with other women. Many in the media hurl insults at him, yet he is doing exactly what the Apostle Paul instructed when he told believers to “Flee from temptation.” Good for him!

The world may criticize us for what we do in the name of our Lord. That is to be expected. But let us hold fast to the Word, and continue standing firm in our faith, despite the words that men may say.

Hebrews 13:7-16 this week. Read up!

Love you all, Bro. Chris
