FROM THE TABLE A Place for EveryoneOne of the things we strive for at FCC is to make sure that we expand the table to which Christ welcomes us to our whole community and beyond. One of the things we’ve worked to do is to find the best way to welcome our children into the worshipful life of the church. With that in mind, we’ve made some tweaks to our worship service, with the participation of our children in mind.Beginning this Sunday, October 14, children at First Christian Church will be invited to begin worship by participating in our opening procession, and remaining in the sanctuary for our opening prayer, which will include a children’s blessing.Children will then be welcome to join Children’s Church until it’s time for communion, when they will be welcomed back into the sanctuary to join their parents for the rest of the worship service. The open table extends to anyone who would like to participate in communion, including our children. It is up to parents to decide when they would like for their children to participate. For many families, communion is something that children receive after baptism or confirmation, whereas for others, communion is a core part of participation in a life of faith from a younger age. At the open table, both understandings of the invitation to partake in the Lord’s Supper are welcomed. If you’d like to discuss this more thoroughly, I’m glad to chat with your family at any time. All are welcome at God’s table. That is one of the many unique things of our tradition, certainly one worth celebrating!I’m grateful for all the good work connected to our Stewardship Campaign this year! If you are yet to send in your Estimate of Giving Card, feel free to do so soon. Remember—estimating your pledge helps us determine a realistic budget for the upcoming year. Thanks for all that you do!I am, as always, grateful for being in ministry with you. Rev. Brandon
