Greetings from Pr. Kathy
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God – ” Ephesians 2:8
The end of this month, the church remembers the 500th anniversary of
Martin Luther nailing 95 Theses to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenburg, Germany. Through his study of Scripture, he became aware that
salvation is God’s doing, through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, not because of anything humans do. In posting his Theses, Luther
hoped to start a conversation and bring changes he thought were needed in the church. For the last 50 years or so, that conversation has been
happening, as Lutherans and Catholics talk together, recognizing what still divides us, and lifting up what unites us. It was a great privilege to attend
the Northwestern Ohio Joint Catholic-Lutheran Commemoration of the Reformation on September 10 in Findlay. There are still opportunities to
commemorate the 500th anniversary, including the “Reformation Crawl” on October 21 (see elsewhere in the newsletter for more information).
Also this month, a 6-week Bible Study on the book of Ephesians is offered. We will begin Wednesday, October 4. The Bible Study will meet at 1:30 pm or 6:00 pm in Cross Hall. Each session will cover the same material. I invite you
to join me as we study this letter that summarizes many of the teachings found in the letters of Paul.
As we begin the next 500 years of the church, may we continue to reach out with the love of God, made known to us in Jesus, giving life and salvation.
Peace, Pastor Kathy

Christmas Family Fundraiser Event
Once again we will be raising money to go towards our
Christmas Family Fund by selling shirts and sweatshirts!
But wait, there is more!
This year we will be offering not only shirts, but hats and
bags TOO!
Here is a sample of what the logo will look like!
(hat logo will be without the picture)
Each year we “adopt” a family to give a Christmas to. We all
pitch in buying this and that on specific items, but we always like
to make sure we are getting them things that they NEED; meals,
gas cards, etc. Creating this fundraiser to fill the needs for more
families is our desire. We hope to adopt and help out many more
this year, with your help! We will be receiving a portion of the
sales amount of each item and banking it to use in December!

Here at First Lutheran Evangelical- family is so important to us. We are all family here at First and we would like to turn the spotlight on one of our families each
month. It's a way for us all to draw closer to one another.
We will begin with our council members first. This month we are featuring
The Wright Family.
The Wright Family:
Helen and Ronald Wright have been members of First for many years. Helen was raised in the congregation and her husband joined in 1960 when they were married. The Wright family has blessed First with their time and talents for many years. Helen was active in teaching Sunday school and being the organist for many years. Ronald and Helen were members of the Everfaithful group. Ronald taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and played dart ball in years past. They have
one daughter Mary who is currently serving on church council, teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, and helping during the summer vacation bible school program. Both Mary and Helen were members of the Women of the ELCA. Mary would like to share that her favorite hymn is “Shine, Jesus Shine” and Helen’s favorite is “Jesus Loves Me”. A special memory for the entire Wright family is when Helen and Ronald were surprised with a cake for their 45th anniversary after church and had a lovely time with all of their church family.
Lifetouch Pictorial Directory
INFORMATION
First Evangelical has not had a pictorial directory
completed since 2009….things have certainly changed!
We will be having LIFETOUCH come in on October 29th
and 30th to take pictures of our Church Families. This is a
pretty simple plan to create a new directory that will be a
great tool not only for our existing church family but for
Pr. Kathy as well! She needs an updated version as she
still continues to meet and remember names and faces!
Online Scheduling is easiest for this endeavor. Kristin will
have scheduling available LIVE before and after church
on October 1st and October 8th. For those that have the
capability you can go onto the website yourself and
schedule a time! We will be able to schedule on Sunday
October 29 from 12-6:30 and on Monday October 30th
from 1 til 8 p.m. We were hoping that by offering a
Sunday time we could reach those that have a normally
hectic weekday schedule. Please sign up at a time that
best suits you and your family.
If you are unavailable both those scheduled times
LIFETOUCH does offer the availability of OUR members to
go to a nearby photo session that LIFETOUCH will be
doing and then they can be added to our directory
during editing.
Lifetouch Pictorial Directory
INFORMATION
As in years past LIFETOUCH allows photo sessions to be
made up of your entire household, add in multiple
households for your ENTIRE family…or even bring your
pet! The choice is yours.
There will be more information to come in the next few
weeks. Stay tuned.
To schedule yourself go to:

Or contact Kristin and she can schedule you.
Bishop Fall Gatherings From Synod website: by Brent Gnagey
Join Bishop Daniel for dessert, fellowship, worship, and learning at the Fall Gatherings! Gathering Info: This non-conference specific event will take place at five different congregations across Northwestern Ohio. Each gathering will begin at 6:30pm with a Taize service followed by the Bishop’s Bake Off. Bishop’s Bake Off Info: Each gathering has been given their own special flavor. Everyone is invited to bake their favorite recipe that fits the flavor theme or, if you’re more of an eater than a baker, vote on your favorite dessert! Because this is a non-conference specific event, we invite you to attend the gathering that best fits your culinary skills! Voting will be done by making monetary donations that will directly benefit the Discipleship Institute. The dessert with the largest amount of donations wins a prize selected by Bishop Beaudoin! Schedule: October 10: St. John’s Lutheran Church, Fremont (Lemon) October 12: St. Paul Lutheran Church, Upper Sandusky (Pumpkin) October 17: St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Hamler (Apple) October 19: Community of Christ Lutheran Church, Whitehouse (Chocolate) October 26: Zion Lutheran Church, Lafayette (Spice) We look forward to seeing you there!
To register for an evening please go to this website http://bit.ly/2xK9DIC Or call the synod office at: 419-423-3664
What is the Discipleship Institute? The Discipleship Institute will be a center of learning for our synod. The Institute will provide spiritual growth and learning opportunities, leadership and discipleship development, and will focus on raising up and training both lay and rostered leaders as life-long learners equipped for discipleship-making and ministry in the church. The Institute is still in the planning phase, and your support will provide a financial base for its launch.
