WEEK OF MAY 6, 2009
Dear Church Family,
There is so much happening at First Lyman. Wow, what a time in the
life of our church. Have you seen the new website, firstlyman.org?
This week we said goodbye to a wonderful lady, Linda Douglas. Linda was a faithful
part of our church family and staff for many years. She will certainly be missed.
Mark your calendar for May 17. This will be a great day in our church. On that
special Sunday morning we will have two very important guests in our morning
service. First, Larry Cox and his wife, Kathy, will be joining us so that we can
recognize him for ten faithful years of service as our church custodian, or “minister
of upkeep.” Also that morning, we will introduce to the congregation our summer
intern who will be primarily responsible for the preschool and children’s ministries.
Later that evening, I encourage everyone to be a part of First Joy. This will be a
special service in the sanctuary beginning at 6PM. There will be no other children
or student activities during this time. We will fellowship, sing, look to the Word of
God together, and affirm the leadership of God in several important opportunities
that are before our church. It’s going to be a wonderful worship experience.
Following the service we will meet together in the fellowship hall to celebrate and
snack - so bring your favorites munchies!
Continue to pray for the Minister of Music Search Team and the Personnel Team.
They continue to prayerfully seek the Lord and His will for our church. We hope to
have exciting news for you very soon.
It is a joy to be your pastor and co-laborer!
God Bless-
Pastor Scott

As you know, the Student Ministry went on a mission trip to Charleston
over spring break. We saw the Lord do amazing things in our lives and in
the lives of the children there. But sometimes you wonder if the work
continues. Well, guys, if like me you’ve been wondering if any of it made
a difference, just keep reading. I recently received a letter from Allen Owen, the pastor of Pittman Street Baptist Church. Here are his words:
Dear Ricky, Adult Leaders, and Youth,
Pittman Street Baptist Church sincerely thanks all of you for coming to our church and
allowing God to use you to be a blessing to us. You did a terrific job. You have a great
group of young people. My prayer is that they will continue to live for Jesus and follow His
will.
The couple that arrived at VBS about noon on Saturday have continued to come to church.
Please pray for them.
We eagerly look forward to having your group come to Pittman Street again. You are
welcome!
May God continue to bless and use you in His kingdom work.
Sincerely in His Love,
Pastor Owen
If nothing else happened that week, a family who desperately needed Jesus is now seeing
him at work in their lives. Isn’t it good to know God is always at work? Let’s continue to
thank Him for all He did that week in Charleston, and let’s look forward to what He’s going
to do in and through us this summer!
Ricky

Pastor & Members of First Baptist Lyman: Thank you so much for all the prayers and for the gracious meal you fixed for Aunt Sarah’s family. She loved her church, and even when it got to where she couldn’t attend, she still would talk about “When I get back to church.” Thank you to all her Sunday School Class ladies. She loved each one of you. Please remember Charles and the rest of her family in your prayers. God bless each of you- Lynn Sellars (Niece)
