Project Statement

Background:

This is a mission and a constant reminder for young teenagers of the consequences in street racing. Nothing good comes from racing on the street. There are only two places teenagers will end up, either in jail serving life because the teenager hit someone and they were killed or the teenager themselves will end up six feet under the ground because they got careless.

Target Audiences:

The target audience for this mission are teenagers ages sixteen to eighteen. Another audience would be the teenagers parents. Whether or not the parents know their son or daughter is racing on the street, they should know what could happen to their child and they should realize what the consequences are for their teens actions are.

Objectives:

After the teenagers read, and watch about the consequences of street racing, I would like them to rethink what they are doing. I would like them to rethink on the choices in life. For the parents of the teenagers I want them to sit down with their child and talk to them about what they are doing and also why the parents are worried about the child in what they are doing. They both need an understanding of the consequences and after they read or watch I want the teenager and parents to have a better understanding of street racing. Nothing comes from street racing either jail or the morgue.

Obstacles:

Some obstacles that can get in the way are pressure from other teenagers, or from parents. Some parents do race with their children on the street so if the child decides to get out of the racing scene this could affect the parents. Teenagers get pressured in from other teenagers such as friends. They tell their friends that it is the coolest and they should try it. It only takes that one time for the teenager to get drawn into racing. Another obstacle would be misinformation on street racing. Misinformation such as it is allowed to race on the street and reach speeds up to one hundred plus in a residential street or on public streets. Another misinformation is teenagers feel that it is cool to be part of the group that is doing this. This is because they feel that nothing can touch them when they are racing.

Key Benefit:

One single benefit the teenager and parent will experience from the reading will be there is no good thing that will come out of racing on the street. I understand that the teenager feels they are making friends which they are but in a scenario where the police show up and everyone runs, will the friends stay together or will they all go their separate ways to get a way.

Support Statements/Reasons Why:

The reasons why the key benefits outweighs the obstacles because of the statements and facts about street racing. 49 people are injured out of every 1,000 who participate in street racing nationwide. Between 1998 to 2001 there were 149,568 fatal crashes. Out of 149,568 crashes 315 of them were from racing. A study was done at a high school asking boys and girls if they have raced another car in the past year. 59% of high school boys and 36% of girls reported that they have raced someone. Another fact on street racing, teenagers who begin racing at age sixteen 90% will not make it to their eighteenth birthday.

PersonasRespect is earned..it’t is not given..

Allen

Allen is a sixteen year old who has entered into the street racing scene. He currently drives a 1992 Honda Civic hatchback that has a fully built K20a4 with a peak boost turbo kit. He has had this car for about two years and has an estimation of about ten grand put into it so far. He plans on doing more to the car so he can go faster and go against high horsepower cars. He plans on getting an Ohlins suspension kit next to replace his ground control coils. His car is meant for the track but he dislikes going to the track because they don’t allow racers to bet on who is going to win.

Allen races with his buddies and his girlfriend, Reggie, sixteen. His buddies got him into street racing, they took him out on a Friday night and took him to the local street racing staging area. He got to race a 1994 Integra with a GSR power plant with a Jackson Racing Supercharger. Even though he lost the race Allen has been hooked since that night.

Allen’s parents don’t know that he races at night illegally in his hatchback but he plans to quite once he has enough money for college. Allen doesn’t have a job and he looks at racing to be his job, the way he gets his money to put into his car and also so he can go to college.

Reggie

Reggie is a sixteen year old girl who is in the street racing scene with her boyfriend Allen. She is currently driving a 1992 Honda Civic Hatchback. Her power plant is a K20a4 with a Jackson Racing supercharger. Her suspension on the hatchback are some Mugen coilovers that are fitted to fifteen inch Mugen MF10s. She enjoys racing on the street and track but enjoys the streets because of the money.

Reggie got hooked the same day as her boyfriend did. She is considering in quitting the street racing but isn’t sure.

Sara

Sara is a fourty five year old mom. Sara works for Childrens hospital and loves working with children. She loves caring for them when they need someone there with them. Sara is a single mother who has one son named Matt.

Sara’s hobbies when she isn’t at the hospital is working on her race car. She owns a 1971 Plymouth Duster 340 four speed. She currently has a 408 small block in it with a full tube frame. The car currently runs on drag radials that are mounted to factory looking wheels made from titanium. Her best time in the car is 11.5 @ 130 mph.

Her son Matt owns a 1999 Honda Civic Si with a B18 power plant. Some other modifications are some Work Emotion wheels power coated in bronze. Matt has a Greddy header that is bolted to a J’s racing B-pipe also known as midpipe which is connected to a Spoon muffler. Sara is convinced that Matt is street racing because of the modifications that he recently got. Matt doesn’t have a job and he often goes out late at night around midnight. Matt is been coming home the next day around five to six with bundles of cash in his pockets.

Sara wants to sit down with her son and talk about what he is doing but isn’t sure how to talk to him about what he is doing to his life. She doesn’t want to see her son in jail or worse she doesn’t want to bury he son.

Mike

Mike is a nineteen year old who enjoys working on cars and making them faster. Mike owns a 2004 Civic Si with a K24a4 Type R motor that he imported from Japan. The motor is connected to a six speed close ratio transmission. The motor has been built up with Mugen components which are the best that money can buy. Mike has a Jackson Racing supercharger mounted to the motor for more power. The motor is currently running on twelve pounds of boost. Mike has currently purchased a Mugen Air box to get cool air into the engine. The exhaust gets pushed through a custom made header made from titanium and is further pushed through J’s racing 70mm RR exhaust system. Mike’s suspenion is his pride and joy which are some Koni coilovers that are mounted to some staggered fit Enkei RPF1’s. Currently the setup are 17x9’s up front and 17x7.5’s in the rear which are also painted purple. Mike has also purchased a pair of Recaro pole position seats for the front and also purple Takata five point harnesses to keep the driver and passenger seated. He has received a full roll cage from Mugen that has been power coated purple to match the wheels.

Mike has been street racing since he was sixteen. He races with a group of friends he has meet online from forums that he goes to for advice on modifications or just to chat. Mike has decided to stop racing because he is tired of all the trash talking that racers do before a race. He is also quitting because he is tired of seeing all his friends get injured or killed in racing. Mike has decided that he is going to attend race events at the local track and give up street racing. He has realized that nothing good will ever come out of street racing. He understands that he is either going to end up in jail or six feet under.

To run or not to run..
