April-May 2014 Czech-Up 3.4
Many of you have been inquiring about our mailing address here in Prague, so here it is: Soukenická 15 110 00 Praha 1 Česká republika Please contact us before sending anything, as there may be some limitations or special instructions needed!
“There are ... so many kinds of languages in the
world ... if I do not know the meaning of the lan-
guage, I shall be a foreigner to him who speaks, and
he who speaks will be a foreigner to me.
[from Ist Corinthians xiv:10-11]
It has been a challenging couple of months, but our first
semester of Czech language study is complete! We spent
the semester studying with a diverse group of students
(with representatives from China, Iraq, Vietnam, Ukraine,
Mongolia, Russia, and Korea), and taking courses in reading,
conversation, oral & written expression, vocabulary,
grammar, spelling, listening, and pronunciation. Whew! But
with God’s help, we were both able to do well in the
course, and are amazed at how much more we can already
understand and communicate!
God also brought us into several solid relationships, both
with other students, and with our teachers. Of course,
there were times when we got frustrated or worn out, but
God has given us faith that He had a purpose even for those
times of weakness and frailty.
Our studies finished on May 15th, and we had the next
week or so off before our next Intensive Course (this one
just a week long) May 26th-30th; we’ll be together with
some more advanced students for reading, writing, listening,
and conversation, and then just the two of us will have pri-
vate time with a teacher to work on grammar! We’re excit-
ed to have one last intensive before the summer begins!
FIRST SEMESTER ENDS CELEBRATING PROGRESS
Scott & Caitlin Andrews, missionaries called by God to engage and administer Grace to the people of the Czech Republic who have dismissed Jesus Christ as irrelevant to 21st-century life.
Thank you for all the prayer regarding the spiritual and psychological struggles we’ve been having; praise the Lord, we have been greatly encouraged and refreshed!
Please pray for us as we take another week-long language intensive May 26th-30th; pray that we can push as far ahead as possible so our summer can be filled with productive practice!
Join us in praising God for the progress being made on our Visas! It sounds like everything is in order, and we will soon be issued our 2-year visas — a great relief to know God has made straight paths for us in this regard.
Pray for us that we will prayerfully steward the relation-ships God is bringing to us; we are being given increasing opportunities to speak into people’s lives, and need prayer to speak God’s word and not our own!

Many of you know that leading other believers in worship
has always been a big part of our ministry, and we have
been blessed to continue serving the Church in this way
here in the Czech Republic. In fact, some new experiences
have come our way in the last month or so. Often we lead
worship together, but at the 2014 TEAM-CZ Ladies’
Retreat Caitlin had her first real experience leading worship
by herself — just her and her mandolin! This was a big step
for Caitlin, and we have the feeling there will be more
opportunities in the future for her to serve in this way.
Also, Scott recently had his “worship debut” in regards to
an instrument he’s been learning to play here: the pump
organ, or harmonium. One of the small congregations here
has a beautiful harmonium that has, from what we under-
stand, gone un-played for some time; Scott was overjoyed
to put it to good use in a recent worship service there! It is
a good thing to sing praises to the Name of our Lord God!

THE MAN FROM MINN AMERICAN IN PRAGUE MARATHON
Ever since the Lord led us to our new apartment, we have
been praying that He would use our home for His glory —
and He has been faithful to answer! We have consistently
been given the joy of hosting various friends and
acquaintances, and one recent guest was Jim Leverton from
True North Church (our ministry partners in Cannon Falls,
Minnesota). Jim had previously travelled to Prague on some
business trips, and wanted to come back for a very specific
purpose: to run the Prague Marathon! And that he did in-
deed, flying in on Saturday, May 10th, and running the 26+
miles in 3 hours, 54 minutes, and 21 seconds — the very
next day! We were blessed to spend an afternoon with Jim,
and house him before he flew back to the States; this was
indeed a pleasure, as although we’ve visited Cannon Falls a
few times, we had never met Jim before! We’re so grateful
that the Lord lined things up so we could meet (and hope-
fully bless) this brother in Christ! And we pray him a
speedy recovery from both the marathon and the jet lag!

CURRENT FOCAL VERSE “For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with goodness, goodness with knowledge, knowledge with self-control, self-control with endurance, endurance with godliness, godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they will keep you from being useless or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” [IInd Peter i:5-8]
