Prophecies Fulfilled in Jesus – Nov 27 – Dec 18The genealogy of Matthew introduces us to Jesus in opening verses of the gospel. In the Old Testament texts that follow, the evangelist establishes Jesus’ prophetic identity in the first two chapters of the gospel. This is Matthew’s unique way of portraying Israel’s hope fulfilled in Jesus as the longed for Messiah and his name: “Emmanuel, God with us.”

The Season of Advent: Heaven Help UsThe Advent wreath, a circle, represents the eternal victory over death through Jesus Christ. The evergreen is a sign of the faithfulness of God to God’s people, even in death, and the lighted candles were a reminder of the light of Christ brought into the world. The center candle is white and is called the Christ Candle.

The four outer candles represent the period of waiting during the four Sundays of Advent. The first Sunday is Hope. The second Sunday is Peace. The third Sunday is Joy. The Fourth Sunday is Love.

Call to WorsHiP Leader: Sisters and brothers in Christ, often we forget from where our help comes. We forget to look to God as our source for life, hope and grace. We try to find hope in created things and we forget to look to the Creator. In this season of Advent, let us turn our hope to the Triune God who offers us help, hope and healing in the person of Jesus. Let us confess:All: Gracious God, we are often a forgetful people. We forget, or we fail to listen to your gentle call to follow you. In the noise of this loud world we follow voices of greed, indifference, injustice and self-interest over your call of grace, love and generosity. We ask your forgiveness and ask that your Holy Spirit guide us back to you.Leader: God is giving and forgiving, God loves even when we hate, God heals even when we hurt.
