Tips for choosing safe toys for kids
Millions of toys are out there, and hundreds of new ones hit the stores each year. Toys are supposed to be fun and are an important part of any child's development. But each year, scores of kids are treated in hospital emergency departments for toy-related injuries. Here are some general guidelines to keep in mind when toy-shopping: Toys made of fabric should be labeled as flame resistant or flame retardant. Stuffed toys should be washable. Painted toys should be covered with lead-free paint. Art materials should say nontoxic. Crayons and paints should say ASTM D-4236 on the package, which means that they've been evaluated by the American Society for Testing and Materials.

First Sunday of Advent November 27, 2016 “You . . . must be prepared,
for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.”
Matthew 24:44
From the desk of Padre Jose,
I am sure that by now we are all hearing the beautiful Christmas songs and most of us are still enjoying some good leftovers from our Thanksgiving celebrations. I pray that the blessings of sharing love and compassion at our tables were signs of God’s mercy for all of us. I know that as I listen to our readings today, they bring the mood of the end times a bit dark and somehow the festivities and the “taking time to prepare His coming” may seem opposite. But in her wisdom, the Church continues to give us this Advent time to prepare and allow the grace of the Holy Spirit to give us light in the midst of the darkness that we may be walking through. As the Christmas lights shine so happy and festive, let us not forget to also look deep within ourselves in our journey and asks ourselves, Where is there need for the Light of Christ to shine in our own journeys and realities? Please be assured of my prayers in our journey searching for the LIGHT of Christ our Savior.
Fraternally, Father Jose.
